Every Missing Guardians of the Galaxy Omnibus, Mapped | 13th Annual Tigereyes Most-Wanted Marvel Omnibus Poll

April 19, 2025 by krisis 3 Comments

Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 2025 Guardians of the Galaxy Omnibus MappingIt’s the most wonderful time of the year for Marvel Omnibus fans – time for the Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 13th Annual Secret Ballot! This post explains every Guardians of the Galaxy omnibus that does NOT exist – all of which will appear as options on the 2025 poll.

For the next two weeks, I’ll be covering Marvel’s entire publishing history by mapping missing omnibus volumes to fill in every gap in your Marvel oversize shelf! That’s all leading to the kickoff of the Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 13th Annual Secret Ballot on Near Mint Condition on April 28, 2025.

Guardians of the Galaxy seemed like a sure bet to sell comic books and omnibuses for a while, but that seemed to stall out long before their third film was released in 2023. We haven’t had a new collection of Guardians in omnibus since 2018 – in part because Marvel keeps delaying a second Brian Bendis omnibus, which used to be the surest thing in the world to sell!

We’ve got to get to voting to jumpstart the collections of this line, because we could use at least two more omnibuses to finish covering major runs.

If you’re not sure of what to vote for, stick around for a list of books vetted by a gang of the biggest mapping nerds on the internet with explanations from yours truly – keeper of the most-definitive guides to Marvel’s collected editions on the planet.

Or, if you don’t care about omnibuses, just use this post to learn about Marvel’s history and find some great comics to read!

This post covers the following speculated omnibus volumes:

  • 90s Guardians of the Galaxy
    • Guardians of the Galaxy: In the Year 3000 by Michael Gallagher (1992 – 1995) [follows Valentino, completes GotG (1990)]
    • Warlock and the Infinity Watch (1992 – 2004) [also includes Warlock mini-series]
  • Solo Guardians of the Galaxy
    • Star-Lord by Humphries & Zdarsky (2013 & on) [modern solo series]
    • Rocket & Groot (2011 – 2017) [modern solo & duo series]
  • Modern Guardians of the Galaxy
    • Guardians of the Galaxy by Brian Bendis Companion (2014 – 2017) [Guardians 3000, Team-Up, of Infinity, Drax, Gamora, etc]
    • Infinity Wars (2018 – 2019) [includes Countdown, Warps, & Secret Warps]
    • Guardians of the Galaxy: Fresh Starts (2018 & on) [omni(s?) of Cates, Ewing, Lanzing/Kelly]
    • Marvel Cosmic Universe by Al Ewing (2015 – 2023) [GotG, Defenders, & Contest of Champions, NOT Avengers or X-Men]

Remember: These titles and mappings are a suggestion of how Marvel could assemble these books. They are meant to help you decide on your votes on the Tigereyes poll. Your vote on the poll is a vote in favor of Marvel creating a book with that title or covering that period, NOT an endorsement of a specific map. Maps are presented as a proof of concept and to help you build your personal reading list.

Want to check out all of the other voting options for the 2025 Tigereyes Poll? Check out my 2025 Tigereyes poll options overview page that explains the poll, how to vote, and every title that will appear – including links to all of the posts in this series.

Over-the-top comics posts like this one are made possible via the support of Patrons of Crushing Krisis. For less than the cost of a single comic issue a month you can fuel my in-depth comics coverage, plus gain access to dozens of exclusive collecting guides & reading orders – including all of the Crushing Comics Guide to Marvel Comics.

Guardians of the Galaxy Omnibus Mapping: 90s Guardians of the Galaxy

We already have the first three possible omnibuses of Guardians material in Guardians of the Galaxy: Tomorrow’s Heroes (the Silver & Bronze Age future team),  Guardians Of The Galaxy Solo Classic (Bronze Age material of the modern team), and Guardians of the Galaxy by Jim Valentino (the 90s future team). See Guide to Guardians of the Galaxy for more information.

Guardians of the Galaxy: In the Year 3000 by Michael Gallagher (1992 – 1995) [follows Valentino, completes GotG (1990)]

A vote for this book is a vote to collect the “Guardians of the Year 3000” run that finishes out Guardians of the Galaxy (1990) after the end of the Jim Valentino omnibus.

Guardians of the Galaxy (1990) #30-62 and Annual 3-4; Galactic Guardians (1994) #1-4; Thor Corps (1993) #3; New Warriors (1990) #68; and material from Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #134.

Drax in Warlock and The Infinity Watch (1992) #12Warlock and the Infinity Watch (1992 – 2004) [also includes Warlock mini-series]

Why do I have this book here? Because we could fairly title this something like “Road to Guardians of the Galaxy” or “Thanos & The Guardians of the Galaxy” since the story is dominated by Gamora and Drax well over a decade before the modern Guardians were formed. I’ve been through this material many times over for comic guides, and it’s all good, readable fun. I think if you enjoy the modern Guardians but also love 90s comics, you’d love this.

Warlock and the Infinity Watch (1992) has been collected in paperback and carved up between various Infinity Saga omnibuses, but never collected in full in one place.

A vote for this book is a vote to collect all of Warlock and the Infinity Watch in one place for the first time, although perhaps it would be renamed with a more MCU-friendly title.

This would collect Warlock and the Infinity Watch (1992) #1-42; Silver Surfer / Warlock: Resurrection (1993) #1-4; and Blood & Thunder crossover material (Thor (1966) #468-471, Silver Surfer (1987) #86-88, & Warlock Chronicles (1993) #6-8).

If this also collected Warlock Chronicles (1993) #1-5, it would almost have to also collect Infinity Crusade #1-6, and then we’ve repeated about a third of the Infinity Crusade omnibus. It’s not a wrong thing to do… I’m just pointing it out.

There is an argument to include Warlock (1998) #1-4 and Warlock (2004) #1-4 here, rather than lumping them into a less-relevant Thanos omnibus.

Guardians of the Galaxy Omnibus Mapping: Solo Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy: Star-Lord by Humphries & Zdarsky (2013 & on) [modern solo series]

There’s two reasons this book doesn’t start with Star-Lord’s 1970s and 80s Earth-791 material.

First, it’s explicitly not in canon. And, second, it has already been completely collected in Guardians of the Galaxy Solo Classic Omnibus – so there’s no point repeating it here. See Guide to Star-Lord for more details.

However, to Star-Lord’s post-Marvel Now solo material we could sneak in six more issues as a prologue – Thanos (2003) #7-12 and Annihilation: Conquest – Starlord (2007) #1-4, which Marvel has previously collected under the banner “Saga of Peter Quill.”

A vote for this book is a vote for all of Star-Lord’s post-2000 solo material to be collected in a single omnibus.

This would collect a minimum of Guardians of the Galaxy (2013) #0.1, Star-Lord (2015) #1-5 (which was published later but fits here in story order), Legendary Star-Lord (2014) #1-12, Star-Lord (2015) #6-8, and Star-Lord (2016) #1-6 & Annual 1.

It could also include Thanos (2003) #7-12; Annihilation: Conquest – Starlord (2007) #1-4 as a prologue.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Rocket & Groot (2011 – 2017) [modern solo & duo series]

Like Star-Lord, Rocket & Groot’s classic solo material is already fully collected in Guardians of the Galaxy Solo Classic Omnibus. But, between the two of them they have a consderable amount of modern material – both alone and together.

That includes two series by Skottie Young plus material by Abnett & Lanning, Matt Rosenberg, Al Ewing, and Christopher Hastings! See Guide to Rocket Raccoon for more details.

A vote for this is a vote to collect all of Rocket & Groot’s modern solo & duo adventures into a single book.

This would collect Annihilators (2011) #1-4 (back-ups); Annihilators Earthfall (2011) #1-4 (back-ups); Rocket Raccoon (2014) #1-11; Groot (2015) #1-6; Rocket Raccoon and Groot (2016) #1-10; Rocket Raccoon (2016) #1-5; Rocket (2017) #1-6; I Am Groot (2017) #1-5.

Guardians of the Galaxy Omnibus Mapping: Modern Guardians of the Galaxy

When it comes to Modern Guardians, we have everything from their inception through 2017, even if we’re still waiting for a release date for one of the books.

That consists of Annihilation Omnibus, Annihilation Conquest Omnibus, Guardians of the Galaxy by Abnett and Lanning, Guardians of the Galaxy by Brian Michael Bendis Vol. 1, Guardians of the Galaxy by Brian Michael Bendis Vol. 2 (announced, but not scheduled), and [All-New] Guardians of the Galaxy by Gerry Duggan. See Guide to Guardians of the Galaxy for more information.

What’s left? Let’s take a look.

Guardians of the Galaxy by Brian Bendis Companion (2014 – 2017) [Guardians 3000, Team-Up, of Infinity, Drax, Gamora, etc]

A vote for this book is a vote for various supporting series that ran alongside Bendis’s Guardians run that really ought to be in Volume 2, and maybe if this does well enough on the poll Marvel will append them to the map of that book when they re-solicit it.

This would collect Guardians 3000 (2014) #1-8, Guardians Team-Up (2015) #1-10, Guardians of Infinity (2015) #1-10, Drax (2015) #1-11, Gamora (2016) #1-5, Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome MIX Infinite Comic (2016 – 2017) #1-6, Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout (2017) #1, Guardians of the Galaxy: Dream On (2017) #1, & Mother Entropy (2017) #1-5

Infinity Countdown (2018) #1Infinity Wars (2018 – 2019) [includes Countdown, Warps, & Secret Warps]

The Guardians of the Galaxy by Gerry Duggan Omnibus really only collects half of a run. The story just stops at the end of issue #150.

That’s because Duggan’s run continues directly into Infinity Countdown (2018) and then into Infinity Wars (2018)… which is a rare modern Marvel Event without an omnibus!

A vote for this book is a vote for a comprehensive collection of the Infinity Wars event, including all of its Infinity Warps character mashups.

This would collect 37 main event issues of Infinity Countdown Prime (2018) #1; Infinity Countdown (2018) #1-5; Infinity Countdown: Adam Warlock (2018) #1; Infinity Countdown: Black Widow (2018) #1; Infinity Countdown: Captain Marvel (2018) #1; Infinity Countdown: Champions (2018) #1-2; Infinity Countdown: Daredevil (2018) #1; Darkhawk (1991) #51; Infinity Countdown: Darkhawk (2018) #1-4; Doctor Strange (2018) #3; Infinity Wars Prime (2018) #1; Infinity Wars (2018) #1-6; Thanos Legacy (2018) #1; Asgardians of the Galaxy (2018) #1-5; Infinity Wars: Sleepwalker (2018) #1-4; Infinity Wars: Fallen Guardian (2018) #1; and Infinity Wars: Infinity (2019) #1.

To that it would add 18 issues of “Warps” character mash-up mini-series and one-shots, including Infinity Warps: Infinity Warps (2018) #1-2; Infinity Warps: Arachknight (2018) #1-2; Infinity Warps: Ghost Panther (2018) #1-2; Infinity Warps: Iron Hammer (2018) #1-2; Infinity Warps: Soldier Supreme (2018) #1-2; Infinity Warps: Weapon Hex (2018) #1-2; Secret Warps: Soldier Supreme Annual (2019) #1, Secret Warps: Weapon Hex Annual (2019) #1; Secret Warps: Ghost Panther Annual (2019) #1; Secret Warps: Arachknight Annual (2019) #1; Secret Warps: Iron Hammer Annual (2019) #1; and material from Free Comic Book Day 2018: The Amazing Spider-Man / Guardians of the Galaxy (2018) #1.

If we had more room, or Marvel was feeling generous, could also include the epilogue: Wolverine: Infinity Watch (2019) #1-5.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2019) #4Guardians of the Galaxy: Fresh Starts (2018 & on) [omni(s?) of Cates, Ewing, Lanzing/Kelly]

Guardians of the Galaxy has had three solid runs since the end of Infinity Wars, but they’ve all been slightly too brief for their own omnibus.

You might be of the opinion that there’s no way Marvel would burn off Donny Cates or Al Ewing material in an omnibus with another creator. Given how slim the Hulk by Cates & Ottley omnibus is, you’re probably right!

But, this is a titles poll first, and as a titles poll it’s in our best interest not to split the vote too much between books just because we’re being sanctimonious about mapping.

A vote for this book is a vote for some post-Bendis, Post-Duggan Guardians omnibuses… and you can believe it would yield any number of books!

This could collect Donny Cates in Guardians of the Galaxy (2019) #1-12 & Annual 1, possibly adding Silver Surfer: Black (2019) #1–5; Thanos Legacy (2018) #1 (A-story).

This could collect Al Ewing in Guardians of the Galaxy (2020) #1-18 & Annual 1, possibly adding “Last Annihilation” issues (Cable: Reloaded (2021) #1, The Last Annihilation: Wiccan & Hulking (2021) #1, The Last Annihilation: Wakanda (2021) #1, and S.W.O.R.D. (2020) #7).

This could collect Kelly & Lanzing in Guardians of the Galaxy (2023) #1-10 & Annual 1

To any of that, it could add the follow material abandoned by the past three omnibuses: Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout (2017) #1, Guardians of the Galaxy: Dream On (2017) #1 & Mother Entropy (2017) #1-5, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Bane of Blastaar (2023) #1.

Marvel Cosmic Universe by Al Ewing (2015 – 2023) [GotG, Defenders, & Contest of Champions, NOT Avengers or X-Men]

Some of you just want to rub Al Ewing comics all over your bodies. Well, here’s your chance.

This is basically “Al Ewing does space & the beyond” without touching his Avengers material (Ulimates, No Surrender) or his X-Men material (SWORD  & X-Men Red).

I personally think that’s a silly delineation, since even Ewing’s Avengers material and X-Men material are part of an “it’s all connected” approach to Marvel’s Universe. Themes from Contest of Champions explicitly continue into his Avengers and X-Men work, and Nova is a full-time cast member of both his Guardians and X-Men Red.

However, the voters want what the voters want, and we’ve heard from a lot of people that that is “more Al Ewing.”

A vote for this is a vote for all of Al Ewing’s cosmic work in one place, save for his comics for the two big team franchises of Avengers and X-Men.

This would collect Contest of Champions (2015) #1-10; Rocket (2017) #1-6; Guardians of the Galaxy (2020) #1-18 & Annual 1/2020; Defenders (2021) #1-6; Defenders: Beyond (2022) #1-5; Last Annihilation material (Cable: Reloaded (2021) #1, The Last Annihilation: Wiccan & Hulking (2021) #1, The Last Annihilation: Wakanda (2021) #1, & S.W.O.R.D. (2020) #7), and material from All-New, All-Different Point One (2015) #1, Guardians of the Galaxy (2019) Annual 1, Marvel Comics (2019) #1000 & 1001, and Thor (2020) #24.

A cool little addition to the Warlock and the Infinity Watch would be Material from Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #108–112 (I, Thanos).

I’ve been pushing for an Ewing Avengers Omni set and an Ewing Cosmic Omni set for a few years now (they would be my #1 and #2 most wanted). That said, a large basis of the Cosmic book would be kicking things off with his Ultimates run. Considering it deals with Galactus, Eternity, Thanos, and a host of other powerful entities (including history of how the Marvel cosmos came to be), it seems fitting to include in the cosmic content. Many of the themes and characters from that run are later utilized in his Defenders minis as well.

You could also possibly include the Empyre mini here. While it involves the Avengers, it’s also centered on multiple alien races and has cosmic implications. To make it more appropriate for two volumes you could also include Royals 1-12, with the Inhumans doing space travel.

Anyways, love how much content you’ve produced for this upcoming poll. We are very lucky as a community to have someone willing to put in the effort to put this much detail into potential maps. Many thanks for doing this!

The entanglement of the stories between those two Ewing omnibuses is what makes it so tricky to map out ANYTHING with his name on it at Marvel outside of Immortal Hulk and Immortal Thor! Ultimates is a real conundrum, since it’s very obviously a “Cosmic Avengers” book that continues the themes of his Mighty Avengers, but it’s also very much a Ewing space book. And, you’re right – Royals is a space book, too! There’s no truly correct answer there.
