Every Missing Spider-Man Omnibus, Mapped | 13th Annual Tigereyes Most-Wanted Marvel Omnibus Poll

April 20, 2025 by krisis 15 Comments

Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 2025 Spider-Man Omnibus MappingIt’s the most wonderful time of the year for Marvel Omnibus fans – time for the Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 13th Annual Secret Ballot! This post explains every Spider-Man  omnibus that does NOT exist – all of which will appear as options on the 2025 poll.

For the next two weeks, I’ll be covering Marvel’s entire publishing history by mapping missing omnibus volumes to fill in every gap in your Marvel oversize shelf! That’s all leading to the kickoff of the Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 13th Annual Secret Ballot on Near Mint Condition on April 28, 2025.

Mapping Spider-Man omnibuses is one of the most-massive undertakings in the Marvel Universe. Spidey has the most-popular line of omnibuses other than X-Men by any metric you’d like to use – number of releases, sales, and votes on the poll.

Spider-Man omnibuses announced for 2025 have included The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 6, Web of Spider-Man Vol. 1, Spider-Man by Michelinie & Bagley Vol. 2, Spectacular Spider-Man by DeMatteis & Buscema, Spider-Man: Gang War, Spider-Man by Joe Kelly, and Symbiote Spider-Man by Peter David.

That’s seven Spider-Man omnibuses in one year – and that’s just counting Marvel-616 continuity Spider-Man!

So, how close are we to total Spider-Man coverage in omnibus? The 26 options below get us pretty close, but at points we couldn’t map any further because of our guidance not to map more than one volume into a run where Marvel’s collection strategy is unclear. Taking into account the books we can’t credibly speculate on, I’d say we are less than 35 omnibuses away from total, line-wide coverage of every in-continuity solo Spider-Man comic.

That sounds like a lot, but at Marvel’s current pace of release it’s only five more years!

If you’re not sure of what to vote for, stick around for a list of books vetted by a gang of the biggest mapping nerds on the internet with explanations from yours truly – keeper of the most-definitive guides to Marvel’s collected editions on the planet.

Or, if you don’t care about omnibuses, just use this post to learn about Marvel’s history and find some great comics to read!

The book titles and mapping in this post were curated with the help of Steve Ellis (AKA DBZALLSTAR). Y’all, I do not know my Spider-Man publishing history the way I do with X-Men and Avengers. You do not understand the intense dread with which I approach trying to explain 80s, 90s, and early-00s Spider-Man… even in my own comic guides! It was so helpful to have a Spidey-Fan like Steve set the boundaries for what these books could be. Steve is a supporter of the charity Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) – which just successfully fought to have comics restored to library shelves just outside of my beloved Philly! If you love this post and have a bit of extra comics cash you can spare consider donating the CBLDF today!

Spider-Man Omnibus Mapping: Spider-Man from 1963-1998, by title

For the Bronze Age of Spider-Man, we can map one or two more sequential collections of each of his titles based on if they are still working from Marvel Masterworks volumes. Titles are listed from oldest (i.e, Amazing) to newest. See Guide to Spider-Man – Peter Parker (1963 – 2018) for a list of all of the existing Spider-Man omnis from this period – there are many!

spider-man-mask

Amazing Spider-Man (1963)

Spider-Man: Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 7 (1980 – 1983) [MMW 20-22]
Spider-Man: Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 8 (1983 – 1985) [MMW 23-25]

Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 6 was released in February, keeping up the regular pace of new volumes of this omnibus line every 2-3 years.

Vol. 6 collected just barely more than two Masterworks and was the shortest book in the line by almost 100 pages, which made it a major outlier. It seems like perhaps Marvel wanted a clean break between Marv Wolfman and Dennis O’Neil.

In terms of looking what milestones lie ahead, Roger Stern’s run begins with issue #224 and ends with #252. It’s highly unlikely a next book would end by #224, and it would be unheard for it to stretch to #252, so this will necessarily overlap the Roger Stern omnibus

That’s a puzzling situation, so I think we can simply assume this will go back to nearly following the “3 Masterwork” rule for the next two volumes (ignoring that Vol. 6 already took a nibble from Masterwork Vol. 20). This also sets us up for Volume 9 to end just prior to #300, which would align it well with existing omnibuses in a similar way that the classic X-Men line has lined up with its mid-80s Event line.

A vote for either or both of these books is a vote for Marvel to keep up the pace of their Amazing Spider-Man classic omnibus line… or even increase it!

Volume 7 would collect Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #206-237 & Annual 14-16.

Volume 8 would collect Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #238 to either 263 or 270 & Annual 17-19; Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #85; and The Official Marvel Try-Out Book (1983); and Web of Spider-Man (1985) #1 & 6

spider-man-mask

Spider-Man: The Black Costume Saga Aftermath (1985 – 1987)

Last year we got a Complete Black Costume Saga omnibus that collected Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #252-263 & Annual 18; Marvel Team-Up (1972) #141-150 & Annual 7; Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #90-100 & Annual 4; and Web of Spider-Man (1985) #1.

You will note that the second MMW-book above overlaps that range. And, one more MMW book would carry us straight to issue 300!

So, what is this book? Is it a book just of Amazing Spider-Man, which is effectively Vol. 9? Or, is it a line-wide collection of ALL the Spider-Man titles, mirroring the collection format of the Black Costume Saga?

A vote for this is a vote collect the next swath of material. How much? It depends on if it just focuses on Amazing Spider-Man or if it collects all three major titles. That is left open to your interpretation.

A book exclusively collecting Amazing Spider-Man (1963) would collect #264-295 with annuals and crossover issues included.

A “Line-Wide” book would effectively continue to collect a year of Spider-Man per volume, and would need three volumes to reach issues #296-300, where other existing volumes begin. A first book could collect Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #264-274 & Annual 19, Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #101-110 & Annual 5, and Web of Spider-Man (1985) #2-11 & Annual 1, along with Marvel Graphic Novel 22: Amazing Spider-Man – Hooky OGN.

Marvel Team-Up (1972)

That makes it easy to predict the contents of the next two volumes, unless Marvel radically changes their strategy. However, I would expect one minor deviation: I expect Volume 2 to end six issues early with issue #58 so that Volume 3 starts cleanly with the first Claremont/Byrne issue at #59, as many prior collections have.

A vote for either of both of these books is a vote for Marvel to set a steady pace to continue this new omnibus line at a regular interval, possibly alternating with Amazing Spider-Man omnibuses. A vote for Volume 8 puts pressure on Marvel to release the next Masterworks volume.

Volume 2 would collect Marvel Team-Up (1972) #31-64 (but very likely #58) & Annual 1, Giant-Size Spider-Man (1974) #4-5, Marvel Two-In-One (1974) #17, Marvel Treasury Edition (1974) #9 & 13, and material from Marvel Comics Calendar 1976, Marvel Premiere (1972) #31, and material from Mighty Marvel Calendar 1977.

Volume 3 would collect Marvel Team-Up (1972) #65 (or, 59) -100 (omitting #79 due to Red Sonja) and material from Marvel Tales (1966) #255 & 262-263, Marvel Treasury Edition (1974) #18, and possibly more material (MMW 9 is not yet announced)

spider-man-mask

Spectacular Spider-Man (1976)

Spider-Man: Spectacular Spider-Man Vol. 2 (1980 – 1983) [MMW 4-6]
Spider-Man: Spectacular Spider-Man Vol. 3 (1983 – 1985) [MMW 7-9]

The Spectacular Spider-Man Vol. 1 was released in 2022 and perfectly follows the “3 Masterworks” rule, so we can assume it will continue for the next two volumes.

A vote for either of both of these books is a vote for Marvel to continue this run so we have an established pace for further volumes. A vote for Volume 3 puts pressure on Marvel to keep up the yearly pace of this line’s Masterworks volumes.

Volume 2 would collect Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #43-79 & Annual 2-3

Volume 3 would collect Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #80 onward to as far as #110 & Annual 4-5, Web of Spider-Man (1985) #1, and Questprobe (1984) #2, and possibly more material (MMW 9 is not yet announced)

spider-man-mask

Spider-Man: Spectacular Spider-Man by Peter David (1985 – 1987) [fits before Conway; could include other PAD material]

Peter David wrote most issues of Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) from #103-136 & Annual 5-7. That means this book could slightly overlap Spider-Man: Spectacular Spider-Man Vol. 3 – or, that book would simply end slightly earlier to make room for this book.

While some people would want all of PAD’s Spider-Man writing from this period, in the long run those sort of messy creator-centric omnibuses just create mapping problems. I’ve included those issues below as reference, but that is not our recommended mapping.

A vote for this book is a vote to collect all of the run of Spectacular Spider-Man mostly written by Peter David, including issues he did not write.

This would collect Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #103-136 & Annual 5-7.

It could also collect other Peter David material from this period, including Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #266-267, 278, & 289, Web of Spider-Man (1985) #7, 11-13, 40-44 & 49, Incredible Hulk (1968) #349 (more than enough for an Omnibus)

spider-man-mask

Spider-Man: Spectacular Spider-Man by Conway & Buscema (1987 – 1991) [fits before SpecSM by DeMatteis]

We can safely map this book because we know exactly what comes after it – the upcoming Spectacular Spider-Man by DeMatteis & Buscema Omnibus.

That books starts with Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #178. Gerry Conway started writing the title at issue #137 and wraps up with #173, though Buscema continues to pencil. That gives us an obvious hunk of issues to collect. Also, per commenter RM, Conway also wrote a very intertwined run of Web of Spider-Man (1985) in this period.

Eagle-Eyed commenter RM shared the following:

Here’s Conway himself discussing the run in Tom DeFalco COMICS CREATORS ON SPIDER-MAN book, page 55:

“…I made this deal with my editor — Jim Salicrup — that my books would be basically subplots that would star the supporting characters. We would do superheroics around that, but my primary focus was on what was happening to Joe Robertson or Mary Jane or Aunt May. I tried to write my two books as if they were coming out bi-weekly. We would have a two-part story in one title. A sub plot would start, weave through the other title and conclude where it originally began. That was a complicated way to craft a story, but it kept me interested.”

So it’s not really optional to include the WEB material. It must be included, because both series together were basically one single run. And to clarify, Conway’s run on Web of Spider-Man continues beyond #58, through #59-70. Admittedly, I’m not familiar with those issues, so I can’t speak to how intertwined they are or aren’t with the rest of his Spectacular run.

Based on that, it sounds like this book absolutely needs to collect Web of Spider-Man (1985) #47-58 and likely also #59-80. That’s another 34 issues, so that would push this to be two volumes. If I had known this at the time we locked down the poll, this title would have been “Spider-Man: Spider-Man by Conway & Buscema (1987 – & on) [Spec & Web; fits before SpecSM by DeMatteis]”

A vote to collect this book is a vote to collect the entire Gerry Conway run on Spectacular Spider-Man

This would collect Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #137-177 & Annual 8-11; Web of Spider-Man (1985) #54-55 & Annual 6; Amazing Spider-Man (1963) Annual #24; and Spider-Man/Doctor Strange: The Way to Dusty Death OGN.

However, it also needs to include all of Web of Spider-Man (1985) #59-80, since it was effectively a bi-monthly title, and likely also #59-80.

spider-man-mask

Web of Spider-Man (1985)

Spider-Man: Web of Spider-Man Vol. 2 (1988 – 1991)

We don’t have existing Masterworks volumes to go on for this line, which shocked us with Web of Spider-Man Vol. 1 released last month even though the Spectacular Spider-Man line hasn’t reached this point yet.

What we know is that we need to knock out through issue #116 of this book for it to meet up cleanly with Clone Saga Volume 1 in 1994.

That leaves us too much uncertainty to map multiple books into this line, so we’ll simply map one volume.

A vote for this book is a vote that Marvel should continue blazing ahead with this line as an omnibus-first collection, revisiting it later in Masterworks or Epic Collections.

This would likely collect Web of Spider-Man (1985) #35-72 & Annual 4-6, plus any necessary crossover issues.

spider-man-mask

Spider-Man (1990)

Spider-Man: Spider-Man (1990) Vol. 1 (1990 – 1994) [by Larsen, Mackie, Kavanaugh; could recollect Todd McF]

This title is intentionally vague. Do we re-collect the contents of the slim, poorly-mapped Spider-Man by Todd McFarlane or start afterward?

I refuse to answer that question!

A vote for this book is a vote to plug the gap in Spider-Man (1990) until the Clone Saga any way you think is appropriate.

This could either collect Spider-Man (1990) #1-50 OR it could collect Spider-Man (1990) #15 & 17-50. Either way, it would likely omit Maximum Carnage but including other smaller crossovers.

spider-man-mask

Spider-Man Omnibus Mapping: Post-Clone-Saga Spider-Man as Line-Wide Omnibuses

Right now we have a beachhead of four line-wide Spider-Man omnibuses that collect every issue of every title with The Clone Saga Vol. 1-2 and Spider-Man: Ben Reilly Vol. 1-2. See Guide to Spider-Man – Peter Parker (1963 – 2018) for a list of those books.

Many fans are hoping Marvel will continue this “all-in-one” line-wide approach to continue collecting through the end of Amazing Spider-Man (1963) – which is roughly 30 issues per title.

For reference, the Clone/Reilly books managed to collect 5-8 issues per title of the four ongoing titles, plus 1-2 issues of Spider-Man Unlimited (1993) and assorted mini-series and one-shots. They weighed in between 35-45 issues each and about 1,300 pages.

We’re specifically breaking our “Only Map Two Books Ahead” rule here because this is really two different sets of two books – one pair mapping the line before any crossover storylines, and one pair mapping the final year of multiple crossovers.

Also? Tons of people asked for this on last year’s poll! So, we buckled down AND FIGURED IT OUT, baby! Let’s go!

spider-man-mask

Spider-Man: Clone Saga Aftermath Vol. 1 (1997)

A vote for this book is a vote for the next sequential volume after the Clone/Reilly omnibuses.

This would likely collect Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #-1 & 419-421, Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #-1 & 242-245, Spider-Man (1990) #-1 & 76-80, Sensational Spider-Man (1996) #-1 & 12-18, Spider-Man Unlimited (1993) #15-16, Spider-Man Team-Up (1995) #6, Journey Into Mystery (1952) #505, Spider-Man: Hobgoblin Lives (1997) #1-3, Marvel Holiday Special (1991) #1996 (material from), X-Man (1995) #24, Spider-Man: Dead Man’s Hand (1997) OGN, Silver Surfer (1987) #128-129, Marvel Valentine Special (possibly also Spider-Man: Father’s Day Is Every Day (Toyota Giveaway))

spider-man-mask

Spider-Man: Clone Saga Aftermath Vol. 2 (1997) [ends prior to Spider-Hunt]

A vote for this book is a vote for a second book after the Clone/Reilly omnibuses that explicitly ends prior to Spider-Hunt.

This would likely collect Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #422-428 & Annual 97, Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #246-250, Spider-Man (1990) #81-87 & Annual 1997, Sensational Spider-Man (1996) #19-23, Spider-Man Unlimited (1993) #17-18, Spider-Man Team-Up (1995) #7, Marvel Team-Up (1997) #1-3, Uncanny X-Men (1963) #346. (possibly also Spider-Man: Doom Control (1998) #0-4)

spider-man-mask

Spider-Man: Clone Saga Aftermath Vol. 3: Spider-Hunt / Identity Crisis (1997 – 1998) [ends prior to Gathering of Five]

A vote for this book is a vote to specifically jump to the multi-title crossovers period of the Clone Saga Aftermath.

This would likely collect Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #429-435, Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #251-258, Spider-Man (1990) #88-92, Sensational Spider-Man (1996) #24-28, Peter Parker: Spider-Man Unlimited (1993) #19, Marvel Team-Up (1997) #4-7, Spider-Man: The Venom Agenda (1998) #1, Venom: The Finale (1997) #1-3, Kingpin (1997) OGN [AKA “To the Death”], X-Man (1995) #37-38.

spider-man-mask

Spider-Man: Clone Saga Aftermath Vol. 4: Gathering of Five / The Last Chapter (1998) [end of all Spidey titles]

A vote for this book is a vote to specifically collect the final two storylines before the line relaunches with “The Next Chapter.”

This would likely collect Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #436-441 & Annual 98 [AKA Spider-Man/Devil Dinosaur], Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #259-263, Spider-Man (1999) #93-98, Sensational Spider-Man (1996) #29-33, Spider-Man Unlimited #20-22, Spider-Man: Made Men (1998) #1, Shadows & Light (1998) #3 (3rd story), Fantastic Four (1998) #9, Peter Parker: Spider-Man / Elektra ’98 (1998) Annual. (Possibly also material from Shadows and Light (1998) #2-3, Daredevil (1998) #1/2, Legacy of Spider-Man (1998) [Wizard Special], How Do You Stop the Rhino From Charging?, and material from Iron Man: The Iron Age (1998) #2)

spider-man-mask

Spider-Man Omnibus Mapping: Spider-Man’s Next Chapter, 1999 – 2007

Spider-Man’s omnibus options after his line relaunch in 1999 are, once again, focused on a cluster of four books with a gulph of unresolved material on either side of them… and alongside them.

In this case, those books are Amazing Spider-Man by J. Michael Straczynski Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Brand New Day Vol. 1 & Vol. 2. Together, they collect nine years of Amazing Spider-Man. See Guide to Spider-Man – Peter Parker (1963 – 2018) for a list of those books.

What they don’t collect are the first two years of “The Next Chapter” relaunch of Spidey’s line, or the following era from 2009-2011 prior to the Superior Spider-Man Omnibus. Plus, there are several significant side-titles that remain uncovered in omnibus!

That means we have a lot to map in this period! The run of 1999-2007 is one of the worst-collected periods of Spider-Man despite those main omnibuses because there’s just so much more to collect!

Spider-Man: The Next Chapter Vol. 1 (1999 – 2000) [AKA by Mackie, Byrne, & Romita Jr]

A vote for this book is a vote to ignore the Byrne-only omnibus and start all over again starting from the integrated mapping of “The Next Chapter” trade paperbacks.

This would collect Amazing Spider-Man (1999) #1-15 & Annual 99, Peter Parker: Spider-Man (1999) #1-15 & Annual 99, Spider-Man (1998) #1/2, Thor (1998) #8, and Spider-Woman (1999) #9, Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man (1999) #1 (2nd story) & 10-16, and “Fast Lane” comic inserts.

It could also optionally collect Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man (1999) #1 (1st story) & 2-9, though those stories are not set at this point in continuity.

Spider-Man: The Next Chapter Vol. 2 (2000 – 2001) [AKA by Mackie & Romita Jr, Jenkins & Buckingham, fits prior to JMS]

A vote for this book is a vote to have this line meet up with the JMS Vol. 1 omnibus on the other side.

This would collect Amazing Spider-Man (1999) #16-29 & Annual 2000 & 2001, Peter Parker: Spider-Man #16-29 Annual 2000, Spider-Man: Revenge of the Green Goblin (2000) #1-3, Wolverine (1988) #156-157, Spider-Man: The Mysterio Manifesto (2001) #1-3, Spidey/Marrow (2001) #1, Spider-Man: Lifeline #1-3 (AKA Spider-Man Universe #14-16).

It could also optionally collect Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man (1999) #17-18, Spider-Man: Death and Destiny (2000) #1-3 (a retcon series), Spider-Man vs. Punisher (2000) #1, Daredevil / Spider-Man (2001) #1-4, and Year In Review: Spider-Man (2000) AKA Peter & Mary Jane’s Spider-Man Scrapbook.

Spider-Man: Peter Parker & Spectacular Spider-Man by Paul Jenkins (2001 – 2005) [both Parker & Spectacular]

A vote for this book is a vote to collet the two different Paul Jenkins runs that parallel JMS’s run in a single omnibus.

This would collect Peter Parker: Spider-Man (1998) #31-50 (possibly including #20-30, which would double-dip the Next Chapter mapping), Daredevil/Spider-Man (2001) #1-4, Sentry/Spider-Man (2001) #1, Spectacular Spider-Man (2003) #1-27.

It would be fine if this book skipped the double-dip of issues #20-30 from the potential “Next Chapter” omnibuses, since it will still be over 40 issues long!

Spider-Man: Marvel Knights & Sensational Spider-Man (2004 – 2006) [collects both series]

A vote for this book is a vote for a single omnibus to collect the series that started out as Marvel Knights Spider-Man (2004) and then became Sensational Spider-Man (2006).

Collects Marvel Knights Spider-Man (2004) #1-22 and its continuation as the Sensational Spider-Man (2006) #23-40 & Annual 1 (but not #41, which is part of “One More Day”), Marvel Spotlight: Spider-Man (2007) #1, The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: Spider-Man: Back In Black Handbook (2007) #1, and Spider-Man Family (2007) #1-2.

Spider-Man: Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man by Peter David & Tom Taylor (2005 – 2020) [combines two Friendly runs]

A vote for this book is a vote for an omnibus that collects either or both of Peter David’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2005) and Tom Taylor’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2019).

This would combine Peter David’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2005) #1-23 & Annual 1 (but not #24, which is part of “One More Day”) and Tom Taylor’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2019) #1-14 & Free Comic Book Day 2019 (Spider-Man/Venom)

Spider-Man: Amazing Spider-Man by JMS Companion / Spider-Man Unlimited (2002 – 2007)

A vote for this book is a vote to collect all of Spider-Man Unlimited (2004), since the JMS omnibuses ignore it, plus the many supporting mini-series that ran alongside JMS’s Spider-Man run. The Brand New Day era was much more consistent about collecting these sort of supporting books alongside the main run if they were part of continuity.

This would collect some or all of Spider-Man Unlimited (2004) #1-15, Spider-Man: Get Kraven (2002) #1-6, Spider-Man: Quality of Life (2002) #1-4, Spider-Man: Blue (2002) #1-6, Deadline (2002) #1-4, Venom vs. Carnage (2004) #1, Spider-Man & Wolverine (2003) #1-4, Spider-Man Special: Black and Blue and Read All Over (2006) #1,  Marvel Holiday Special (1991) 2004-2005 & 2007 (Spider-Man stories), Gravity (2005) #1-5, Spider-Man: Breakout (2005) #1-5, Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four (2007) #1-4, Spider-Man/Black Cat: Evil That Men Do (2002) #1-6, Spider-Man/Human Torch (2005) #1-5, and optionally material from Marvel Team-Up (2004) #1-2, 5-7, 10-13.

Spider-Man Omnibus Mapping: Brand New Day to Superior Spider-Man

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Vol. 1-2 carry us through 2010, but not quite all the way to the Dan Slott era of Spider-Man. We need one more book to get us there. Then, figuring out how to collect Dan Slott prior to Superior Spider-Man Omnibus is not as simple as it sounds. See Guide to Spider-Man – Peter Parker (1963 – 2018) for more details.

spider-man-mask

Spider-Man: Amazing Spider-Man – The Gauntlet (2009 – 2010) [between BND Vol. 2 & Slott Vol. 1]

“The Gauntlet” storyline begins in Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #612, picking up perfectly from a Spider-Man: Brand New Day Vol. 2 omnibus announced for January 2026.

The continues of two existing Complete Collection trades get us to issue #637 in about 1,000 pages. To reach the next era – Dan Slott’s “Big Time” – this book will need to collect futher – through Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #647.

That sounds like a large volume, but the prior two omnibuses from Marvel have been more than 1,200 pages each there aren’t many supporting titles to include here. We’re only talking about adding 15 issues, which puts this just a hair above the size of the past two volumes.

A vote for this book is a vote to close the gap between “Brand New Day” and Dan Slott’s “Big Time” with a single large volume that includes “The Gauntlet,” “Grim Hunt,” and “One Moment in Time” – quite the gauntlet of stories, indeed!

This would collect Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #612-647 & Annual 37, Dark Reign: The List – Amazing Spider-Man #1; Grim Hunt: The Kraven Saga (2010) #1, Amazing Spider-Man Presents: Black Cat (2010) #1-4, Web of Spider-Man (2009) #8-12, and material from Web of Spider-Man (2009) #2-7.

Spider-Man: Amazing Spider-Man – Big Time by Dan Slott Vol. 1 (2010 & on)

There’s no way to get all of Dan Slott’s pre-Superior run into a single omnibus that reaches from Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #648 to 697. It’s not that 50 issues is too much for a modern Spider-Man omnibus, it’s that there’s a lot of supporting material that is essential to Slott’s run.

I suspect this first book would collect to the end of Spider-Island, which means its contents would be Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #648-673 & 654.1, Free Comic Book Day 2011 – Spider-Man, Venom (2011) #6-9 (part of Spider-Island), The Amazing Spider-Man: Infested (2011) #1, and Spider-Island: Deadly Foes (2011) #1.

That’s 34 issues. It could optionally add all of the supporting Spider-Island material as well as six issues of material not by Slott from this period, including

A vote for this book is a vote to get underway on collecting Dan Slott’s “Big Time” run on Spider-Man! You’re not voting on a map! You’re just voting to get started!

This book is likely to collect Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #648-673 & 654.1, Free Comic Book Day 2011 – Spider-Man, Venom (2011) #6-9 (part of Spider-Island), The Amazing Spider-Man: Infested (2011) #1,  Spider-Island: Deadly Foes (2011) #1, and Spider-Island Spotlight (2011).

It could optionally then add 16 issues of supporting Spider-Island material (The Amazing Spider-Girl #1-3, Spider-Island: Cloak & Dagger #1-3, Spider-Island: Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #1-3, Herc #7-8, Spider-Island: Avengers #1, Spider-Island: Spider-Woman #1, Spider-Island: I Love New York City, Black Panther #524, Spider-Island: Heroes For Hire) and/or 6 additional issues of non-Slott material (Spectacular Spider-Man #1000, The Identity Wars crossover from Annual 38 to Deadpool & Hulk Annuals, and Fear Itself: Spider-Man (2011) #1-3.)

Then, a second volume would collect Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #674-697 & 679.1, Daredevil (2011) #8, Amazing Spider-Man: Ends of the Earth #1, and Avenging Spider-Man (2011) #8 (part of Ends of the Earth).

That’s just 28 issues. To that we could could add 25(!) non-Slott material from Amazing Spider-Man (1963) Annual 39, Avenging Spider-Man (2011) #1-7, 9-15, & Annual 1, which was effectively a team-up book (along with a crossover into Daredevil (2011) #11 and The Punisher (2011) #10), Avenging Spider-Man: Daily Bugle (2011) #1, Spider-Men (2012) #1-5 by Brian Bendis, and Spider-Man vs. Vampires (2010) #1. I’m not sure Marvel would have the appetite to put that much non-Slott material into a Slott omnibus rather than “Slott Companion” omnibus – but, we’ll see how Volume 1 goes!

Spider-Man Omnibus Mapping: Superior Aftermath to Present

After the wickedly-fun and entirely self-contained The Superior Spider-Man Omnibus, Peter Parker is back in his own mind and body… but, he’s still figuring things out. That leads to a brief run at the end of Marvel Now, followed by a much bigger run at the start of All-New, All-Different Marvel. See Guide to Spider-Man – Peter Parker (1963 – 2018) for more details on Spider-Man books prior to the start of Nick Spencer’s run in 2018.

Spider-Man: Amazing Spider-Man, Superior Aftermath – The Return of Peter Parker (2014 – 2015) [ASM (2014), Family Business OGN, etc]

The Spider-Verse OHC and omnibus both leave us with an awkward problem – both of them only collect about a third of Amazing Spider-Man (2014) – the volume that marked Peter Parker’s return after Superior Spider-Man.

Some people might suggest collecting around Spider-Verse, but… why would you do that!? Spider-Verse is a great hook to get people to buy a book, and it does not require all of the tie-ins to read coherently. Spider-Verse wasn’t a direct crossover. The original oversize hardcover line of this title included those issues with none of the Spider-Verse tie-ins – not even the main two-issue series.

Or, maybe you are DEEPLY OFFENDED by the idea of double-dipping Spider-Verse. That’s fine. Even if you skip it entirely, there’s plenty of material here.

A vote for this book is a vote to collect from the end of Superior Spider-Man to Secret Wars, no matter how you feel that should be done.

This book could collect some or all of Amazing Spider-Man (2014) #1-18 & Annual 1 & 1.1-1.5 (note that #7-15 tie in to Spider-Verse), Amazing Spider-Man (2014) #16.1-20.1 (effectively a mini-series by Gerry Conway), The Amazing Spider-Man: Who Am I? Infinite Comic, Spider-Man: Family Business (2013) OGN (which has an impact on the next run), Spider-Verse (2014) #1-2, Superior Spider-Man (2011) #32-33, Spider-Man & The X-Men (2014) #1-6, Free Comic Book Day 2014 (Spider-Man story), and “Inhuman Error” (from Amazing Spider-Man Special #1, Inhuman Special #1, and All-New Captain America Special #1).

Spider-Man: Amazing Spider-Man, Worldwide by Dan Slott Vol. 1 (2015 & on) [AKA All-New All-Different]

A vote for this book is a vote to collect Dan Slott’s post-Secret Wars material that began in late 2015.

The book would be nearly 50 issues, some of them double- and triple-sized, so we wouldn’t be able to add in much supporting material. In that case, we’d need a “Worldwide Companion” for that material.

Alternately, this could simply be a Vol. 1 with some of that material, breaking sometime prior to the switch to Legacy numbering.

I think trying to force a decision on Main/Companion vs. Vol. 1-2 isn’t helpful. That’s why we’re just leaving this open-ended on the poll this year.

A vote for this book is a vote to get an omnibus of Dan Slott’s All-New All-Different Spider-Man run, in whatever form that takes. Once we get it, we can map what it doesn’t include.

These books would begin to collect Amazing Spider-Man (2015) #1-32, 789-801, Annual 1 & 42, and Free Comic Book Day 2016 (Spider-Man Story)

They would also begin to collect Amazing Spider-Man (2015) #1.1-1.5 (which were not by Slott – they were a totally separate mini-series), ASM & Silk: The Spider(fly) Effect #1-4, Civil War II: Amazing Spider-Man #1-4, Clone Conspiracy material (The Clone Conspiracy #1-5; The Clone Conspiracy: Omega; Silk #14-17; and Prowler #1-5), and Spider-Men (2017) II #1-5.

Here, we have Amazing Spider-Man by Nick Spencer Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 followed by Amazing Spider-Man: Beyond, which completely collect the main Amazing Spider-Man title from 2018 to 2022. See Guide to Spider-Man – Peter Parker (2018 – Present).

spider-man-mask

Spider-Man: Amazing Spider-Man by Zeb Wells et al (2021 – 2023)

A vote for this book is a vote to get underway with the first of two or three omnibuses collecting Zeb Well’s run on Amazing Spider-Man (2022). The run was over 60 issues if we include one-shots and specials, so it will need multiple omnibuses even before we factor in any supporting material.

We can think about the contents of this line of books in terms of main contents, supporting contents, and nice to haves.

At minimum, this line of books would include Amazing Spider-Man (2022) #1-60, Annual 2023, Annual 2024, Free Comic Book Day (2022) Spider-Man / Venom (Spider-Man story), Dark Web: Dark Web (2022) #1 & Finale, Free Comic Book Day (2023) Spider-Man / Venom (Spider-Man story), Fallen Friend (2023) #1, Amazing Spider-Man: Gang War First Strike (2023) #1, Jackpot (2024) #1, Web of Spider-Man (2024) #1 (Spider-Man story), Free Comic Book Day (2024) Ultimate Universe / Spider-Man (Spider-Man story)

This line of books could add some or all of Devil’s Reign: Spider-Man (2022) #1, Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2022) #1-5, Dan Slott’s Spider-Man (2022) #1-7, Spider-Man: Unforgiven (2023) #1, Hallows’ Eve (2023) #1-5, Spine-Tingling Spider-Man (2023) #0-4, Marvel’s Voices: Spider-Verse (2023) #1, Giant-Size Spider-Man (2024) #1, Jackpot & Black Cat (2024) #1, Spider-Man: Blood Hunt (2024) #1-3, and Venom War: Spider-Man (2024) #1-4.

This line would probably not collect Dark Web: Ms. Marvel (2022) #1-2 and Dark Web: X-Men (2022) #1-3 (which are in the Spider-Man/X-Men: Dark Web Omnibus), Savage Spider-Man (2022) #1-5 (which is in the Joe Kelly Omnibus)

It’s hard to say if this Wells book should include Amazing Spider-Man (2022) #61-70, 65.DEATH, & 68.DEATH, which are by Joe Kelly and Justina Ireland. Some folks might argue they should start a subsequent Joe Kelly omnibus, but I feel like it would be awkward to start an omnibus focused on his new run with this story. Really the place to collect it was in Marvel’s not-all-that-big Spider-Man by Joe Kelly omnibus, but they were in such a rush to get that out that they missed the chance to make it more marketable!

I just wanted to make an observation regarding your mapping for Spectacular Spider-Man by Conway:

Gerry Conway was writing both Spectacular and Web of at this time, and the stories in those two titles are quite intertwined, as the debut of Tombstone gives way to the Trial of Robbie Robertson and the Lobo Brothers gang war. (I recently read that period in the form of floppies and actually got to take in the story coherently thanks to your reading order, so thank you!!) I would just like to voice the suggestion that a more coherent Gerry Conway volume of that period would cover Spectacular Spider-Man 137-157 and Web of Spider-Man #47-58. (Trying to avoid spoilers, but Web of #58 reads like a conclusion to the Robbie Robertson story.) That would stop the volume right before Acts of Vengeance begins, and the remaining Gerry Conway stories could be collected in a second volume.

And if you’re curious to know more about that particular period, here’s a blog post I found about it (though he didn’t include Web of #58 in his read, which I would argue makes the story feel complete): https://www.chasingamazingblog.com/2013/11/19/reader-request-lobo-brothers-gang-war/

Thanks for the note! That one was based on a voter suggestion from last year (as was the PAD book). I think it makes perfect sense to include more of Web if the titles were intertwined that closely.

Great! And to clarify, Conway’s run on Web of Spider-Man continues beyond #58, through #59-70. Admittedly, I’m not familiar with those issues, so I can’t speak to how intertwined they are or aren’t with the rest of his Spectacular run.

If there is a desire to pack in the Conway stories of this era, while filling the Spectacular gap that precedes the DeMatteis omni, maybe there’s a case to be made for one volume consisting of Spectacular #137-157, Web of #47-58 (ie. 33 issues + relevant annuals) and another with Spectacular #158-177, Web of #59-70 (ie. 32 issues + relevant annuals + The Way to Dusty Death)…?

        For your consideration!

I think at this point we’d be more likely to leave it as one poll options, given our “don’t map into the unknown” rules, even though it’s probably too large for Marvel’s tastes in this period and would be split into two.

I just posted about this on the Marvel Masterworks message board, where someone linked to this post.

Thanks for this awesome note, Matt! Spider-Man is NOT my biggest area of expertise, so it’s helpful to have historical creator quotes like this to inform how it should be collected in addition to knowing the reading order. I’ll add that entire quote into the mapping in a few hours. (Also, sorry your comment got caught in the Spam filter and you had to re-write it!)

um, I could be wrong , but I didn’t see Spidey Super Stories ( 1974 – 1982 ) . They probably would fit best in your Out-of-Continuity section. Those are great fun :)

There’s some great mapping here! I have the DeMatteis & Buscema omnibus on pre-order for later this year, but I was surprised not to see a follow-up to that book on this list! I’ve not read any of that material myself yet, but I’ve tentatively mapped out what I could see in a volume 2:

    Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #-1, 217-238, 241-248, 250-253, 255, 258, Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #394-398, 432, Web of Spider-Man (1985) #117, Spider-Man (1990) #51, 89, Spider-Man Unlimited (1993) #7, Sensational Spider-Man (1996) #25

There’s also an argument to be made that Shadow of the Green Goblin (2024) #1-4 and Lost Hunt (2023) #1-5 can be included due to DeMatteis writing them, and Kraven and Goblin stories already being included.

Since it’d drop you right into a crossover, I’ve added some additional issues for a smoother reading experience, up until it gets more clone-focused. I also included all of Spider-Hunt since it relates to the Green Goblin focus of the first volume. I’m sure my mapping isn’t perfect, but I’d love to see this as a poll option next year! :)

As an alternative to padding Next Chapter with minis around that time, they could do a Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man Omnibus. The base contents would be:

    > collects Spider-Man: Death and Destiny #1-3; Spider-Man: Legacy of Evil; Spider-Man: Lifeline #1-3; Spider-Man: The Mysterio Manifesto #1-3; Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man #1-18; material from Shadows and Light #2-3.

Leaving sufficient room to potentially add in other books from late 1990s—early 2000s like:

    > Daredevil/Spider-Man #1-4; Spider-Man: Quality of Life #1-4; Spider-Man/Black Cat: Evil That Men Do #1-6; Spider-Man/Daredevil; Spider-Man/Doctor Octopus: Negative Exposure #1-5; Spider-Man/Kingpin: To the Death; Spider-Man/Wolverine #1-4.

I think the Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane Omnibus should also include Mary Jane (2004) #1-4 and Mary Jane: Homecoming (2005) #1-4

Would it be possible to include The Marvel Comics Guide to Collecting Comics 1982, Spider-Man Unlimited (1993) #3-6 and material from Mighty Marvel Comics Calendar 1978, Marvel Comics Presents #120 & 138, Marvel Collector’s Edition (1992) #1 and Spider-Man Unlimited (1993) #1-2 somewhere?

Thanks for putting all of this together Krisis!

One thing I’ll point out re Marvel Team-Up is that both Claremont & Byrne did issues independent of each other that are collected with #59-64 in MTU MMW Vol. 6 – Byrne drew MTU #53-55 whilst Claremont wrote #57-58 & Annual #1. So following the suggested mapping for Omnibus Vol. 3 would mean that those issues would be ‘orphaned.’

Ideally Marvel would collect MMW Vols. 6-8 together so everything aside from MTU #100 would be included together but it may be too late for that now.

That could be a good reason for them to break the 3xMasterworks rule in that omnibus line, even if they just stick with numbering on the spines without creator names. OR, it could be incentive for them to totally stick to the numbering to keep their run broken into two books!
