What I Tweeted, 2009-11-01 Edition

November 1, 2009 by krisis

My best and most-interesting tweets of the last week.

Quotes of the week:

I've come to realize that the reason I must acquire so much new music is so that I can continue to make bitchin' mix tapes. #

#reasonsIlovemyjob = My entire main client group likes all of: Kelly Clarkson, Rufus Wainwright, Lady Gaga, and Sia. And more! <3 you all. #

@amanda_nan Apparently you have much to learn about me if you think anything ranks "more appealing" over an activity involving Madonna. ;) in reply to amanda_nan #

Can the insane people just back away from their communications devices today? I feel like I'm in a Web 2.0-enhanced zombie flick. #

I think I am making a Twitter list called "So-Called Experts Who Are Really Just Follow Junkies That Will Never Read My Tweets AKA Jerkwads" #

Pics or it didn't happen @PhillyWeekly NOT A JOKE: A-Rod has self-portrait of himself as a centaur above his bed http://bit.ly/2WebML #

@deestbie My hairdresser encouraged me to do some facial hair: so far it seems to contextualize my music better, in that I don't look 15. in reply to deestbie #

Last night I learned @Amanda_nan gets a text EVERY TIME I tweet. That's BFF-level commitment; not even my wife would subject herself to that #

Highlighted topics/conversations: U2’s YouTube Webcast, Open Mic @ The Fire / National Mechanics, Webcast Fail / Phillies Game 1 Live Tweet, and Twitter lists as B.S. detectors. Plus various Halloween and recording fun.

You should follow me on Twitter so you can read my tweet action as it happens.

    Sunday Night / Monday

  • I love that U2 comes out every night to Space Oddity. Perfect. #
  • I'm always impressed with Edge's live backing vocals, never moreso than now with him on that teeny headset mic. #u2webcast #
  • It's fascinating that this much sound can come out of (usually) three dudes; one guitarist! Probably my favorite thing about U2 #u2webcast #
  • I would love to hear 10 seconds of their in-ear monitor mix. It must be phenomenal. #u2webcast #
  • He's sounding about as vocally healthy as I did screaming Kings of Leon on Rock Band during halftime, i.e., not healthy #u2webcast #
  • Gee, maybe if you didn't pass off all that useless shouting as being a frontman you'd have a voice left for your hits. I'm done. #u2webcast #
  • Really, Bono, a lot of people watching in Antarctica? #u2webcast #
  • Despite Bono gripes I concede the quality outstrips my expectations. How long until bands are selling season passes of this? @Chris_Huff #
  • I've come to realize that the reason I must acquire so much new music is so that I can continue to make bitchin' mix tapes. #
  • @Chris_Huff The 3-cam direction is pretty impressive from what I've seen. Tori did HQ DL for every show on her last tour, I bought every one in reply to Chris_Huff #
  • @Chris_Huff DL for every show takes some balls, though. I might show video of my every one, but I don't want them all out there in HQ audio in reply to Chris_Huff #
  • @Chris_Huff Right. I don't mind passing flatness. Happens to everyone. It's the archival quality flatness that scares me. in reply to Chris_Huff #
  • My day is measurably better now that I have my non-stop iPod hits back. Funny how small changes to your process can completely waylay you. #
  • And, seriously, with >16,000 songs I play repeats way less than any radio station, terrestrial, satellite, or internet. #
  • When I am looking at the yellow mustard packets in my drawer as possible dinner options it has officially been too long since I last ate. #
  • And now, 45 minutes to eat dinner, do laundry, and see my wife before I head out to be a rocker. And writing happens when…? #
  • Bagged the fire – bands playing before open mic, and we didn't want to miss @natmechanics, since it's only once a month. #
  • I'm at National Mechanics. http://bit.ly/X4KMf #
  • We are very sleepy for our open mic outing tonight. Mondays are not really our night of choice. #
  • Turned on the energy for our set; great rough'n'tumble Better & a spirited Apocalyptic (we love when the audience laughs at the last verse). #
  • Kinda blew my voice out, either on the bridge of Bucket Seat or on impromptu verse of Use Somebody (per an audience challenge – accepted!) #
  • Tuesday / Wednesday

  • Former Late Night writer Nell Scovell on David Letterman and woman in the writing room: vanityfair.com: http://bit.ly/43nX5Y #
  • Alright, I like it brisk, but the jacket and scarf at my desk is getting to be overkill. If I get sick from this it will be embarrassing. #
  • So far: my cube is sub-zero, @brimil won't go to lunch w/me, & my brother has H1N1. Can the day possibly end now before it declines further? #
  • I'll make a bold statement and see if any of you dissent: If you work in Center City the best coffee break you can take is at La Colombe. #
  • OMG LISTS YES! Finally. So excited. #
  • #reasonsIlovemyjob = My entire main client group likes all of: Kelly Clarkson, Rufus Wainwright, Lady Gaga, and Sia. And more! <3 you all. #
  • RT @iggypintado RT @mgimena: A plan without action is a dream. Action without a plan is a nightmare. – Simon Batcup #
  • @amanda_nan @eedawson Speak at points got a little too cute/layered for me (funny, coming from me), & I heard new one is a slightly less so. in reply to amanda_nan #
  • Twitter lists seem to be limited to 20 at the moment; I use 30+ in @mixero to keep all my peeps straight. #
  • @jensondyan Thanks for following! It's sounds as if I'll dig your tweets. Do you have any idea of how you wound up finding me? in reply to jensondyan #
  • Hmm, I've started already… @eronJames I'm growing a Mo for #Movember to help the fight against prostate cancer & men's depression @pancan #
  • @cardiacdisaster I may not have mentioned this previously, but I am ALSO an Oxford comma advocate :) in reply to cardiacdisaster #
  • @teft I can't wait to Beta songnosh when I have some more time! in reply to teft #
  • @ChrissMari I cannot live without it. in reply to ChrissMari #
  • Sitting in the middle of three computers and none of them do the thing I want to do. #
  • Do you know how to share a laptop webcam to another computer on a network (or, via USB?). Trying to broadcast video via my mixing machine. #
  • @amanda_nan @radopcolin Well, we'll just have to share the audio to the webcam laptop, though that is sketchy as hell in reply to amanda_nan #
  • Nothing in my life is harder to keep track of than my 1/4" to 1/8" converter #
  • Alright, I think it's figured out … it takes three computers, but I'm about to broadcast with digital multi-track audio for the first time #
  • Well, we're about to see if some semblance of this works in some semblance of some way. (@krisis live on http://twitcam.com/4nvk) #
  • The re-broadcasting-to-laptop solution sucks. Looks like I have to spring for a webcam if I want to try to make that work for real. #
  • It's not normal for the same dude to get two back to back home runs, right? #phillies #
  • @edwardocean Mark, there is no such thing as television in my home. I have enough pointless distractions to begin with. in reply to edwardocean #
  • 11 of 12 baseball experts on si.com picked against the Phillies. Yikes. http://bit.ly/2RM155 #
  • Again, I don't know anything about baseball, but Fangraphs seems to think we have this wrapped up. http://bit.ly/1IA7j3 #phillies #
  • @JamesAWoods Not well. I think my laptop just has a lousy internal amp to receive it's line-in. I need to get a cam for my faster PC. in reply to JamesAWoods #
  • @JamesAWoods On the plus side, I now have all of the killer audio equipment I need, plus a nice backdrop for recording! Just need a cam. in reply to JamesAWoods #
  • @PhillyBossLady My dream is that it becomes irrevocably associated with a Yankees World Series loss and is never played again. in reply to PhillyBossLady #
  • Twitter almost makes Baseball interesting. ALMOST. #
  • @amanda_nan I love you. in reply to amanda_nan #
  • I don't have to like baseball to enjoy a loss by the Yankees. To anyone. Losing to the #phillies just makes it AWESOMER. @ElvisFmOthrSide #
  • @iPhillyChitChat @phillyGG But Glee will be IN PHILLY to sing the National Anthem on Saturday :) in reply to iPhillyChitChat #
  • I am actually going to watch an entire baseball game tomorrow, pretty much just so I can watch @amanda_nan scream at the TV for 4hrs ;) #
  • Hilarious, via FB: "Cliff Lee is a monster, & if I learned anything from King Kong & Godzilla, it's that monsters HATE New York." #phillies #
  • Thursday

  • I love the creepiness of Alien, but I think Aliens is the better flick (& probably the only feminist action movie, ever) @BradfordPearson #
  • @PhillyGG It's going to be very difficult to resist stalking @ChrisColfer & @IJennaUsh, both of whom I completely adore to the max. in reply to PhillyGG #
  • @mustloveSEPTA That might be the best one I've read all night. A little more cerebral than most. in reply to mustloveSEPTA #
  • @ChrissMari Rachel is my third, because she is totally me, except for a girl. in reply to ChrissMari #
  • @ChrissMari I don't know, but if there is a chance to stand near @ChrisColfer and giggle as a result of his utter adorableness I am in. in reply to ChrissMari #
  • @amanda_nan Apparently you have much to learn about me if you think anything ranks "more appealing" over an activity involving Madonna. ;) in reply to amanda_nan #
  • So, apparently my former intern slash @not_pele's co-worker is partially responsible for "Ill State of Mind"? I'm still seeking deets. #
  • Next episode features a duet between @RachelBerryGLEE & @KurtHummelGLEE on "Defying Gravity"; Kurt is the only billed cast member w/no solo. #
  • I should probably mention that I don't actually like Glee, I just geek about its cast (if that makes any sense) @iPhillyChitChat @ChrissMari #
  • @JettSuperior OMG, you are visiting me, aren't you? AND BRINGING COOKIES. I lurves it. in reply to JettSuperior #
  • Can the insane people just back away from their communications devices today? I feel like I'm in a Web 2.0-enhanced zombie flick. #
  • As if @Drew wasn't cool enough already RT @WhatSteveI love @textPlus more now because they are sponsored by Glee http://yfrog.com/78photoosj #
  • @TransitionalTee Interesting that you can list people are you aren't following. Will it change follow inflation? in reply to TransitionalTee #
  • @melissa_shae If I'm on Septa all indie-rocked up w/my guitar I deftly screen the name of the artist w/splayed fingers when listening to pop in reply to melissa_shae #
  • LIKE! RT @eedawson A portion of the proceeds from the Unbe-LEE-vable T at Modell's is going to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. BUY ONE! #
  • Fantastic Bob Dylan cover; a great Beck song. ♫ http://blip.fm/~flpjc #
  • I cannot get crazy about Regina Spektor because her signal:noise ratio is a little too low – too many bad/weird songs for every good one. #
  • Lots of Mates of State coming up on my iTunes radio tonight – I think I've decided that they're the band we're most similar to. #
  • Bingo. RT @morganb: oh, and twitter lists just points out the glaringly obvious. People search on twitter is terrible. in reply to morganb #
  • I may have just finished a song I've been writing since May of 2008. A good one! #
  • Finally explained. RT @anniemal: for those of you who don't understand why many of us keep tweeting "Black Taco": http://bit.ly/2TQZai #
  • @petmarmoset I ***LOVE*** Janet Weiss. One of my all-time favorite drummers. in reply to petmarmoset #
  • RT @Flipbooks "People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing" ~Dale Carnegie #quote #
  • Friday

  • @deestbie I am not glamming up for Halloween (bearded, actually), but I will be totally glampired up for the Lady Gaga concert in a month :) in reply to deestbie #
  • I just scored 51% playing @cheeseorfont, which is embarrassingly low considering my diet and profession http://cheeseorfont.mogrify.org/game #
  • Lists allows me to implement my infamous PIGASA (People I Give A Shit About) list from FB & other services. Finally, more signal, less noise #
  • @MarkAPatten Yes, you're right on both counts. I think it will be a week or two before we really see the impact of that. in reply to MarkAPatten #
  • Um, I need some more lists now. Can I have more lists? #
  • I think I am making a Twitter list called "So-Called Experts Who Are Really Just Follow Junkies That Will Never Read My Tweets AKA Jerkwads" #
  • Hmm. Must consider. RT @theoreticalgirl Can you think of any books/articles/etc that discuss music journalism as opposed to music criticism? #
  • Smart. RT @bryanperson How might brands use new Twitter Lists to their advantage? @Dan360Man offers several suggestions http://is.gd/4IvED #
  • I make big plans all day but come home exhausted, hungry, and out of ideas. I'm going to change that in November. #
  • @onedr I love that you have me on a list named "genuine." My lists so far are very role-based, rather than trait-based. Must ponder on that. #
  • RT @dudeman718 RT @Pogue Disney Cruise Lines will install hi-def TV "windows" on inside-cabin walls, showing real-time view outside #
  • Can't decide if that is cool or a sign of the end times drawing near. #
  • Some of both. More attainable plans, less exhaustion. Trying to make my life more about what I consider essential about me. @gloriabell #
  • @lwcavallucci Indeed! I've pushed to get out to open mics even when I'm not feeling/sounding super. Need to expand to record/blog as well. in reply to lwcavallucci #
  • @lwcavallucci Indeed, again. I have so many people that rely on me to make a good plan for them, yet I can't record a freaking album of me. in reply to lwcavallucci #
  • November is National Blog Posting Month (nablopomo, for short), and for me heavy blogging = heavy recording. Trying to plan a killer project #
  • In 2006 I recorded 30 songs in 30 days, and in 2008 I recorded podcasts (I skipped 2007 because we just got engaged& were a bit preoccupied) #
  • This year I have a slew of new songs, many new covers, and a bitchin' new workstation. Considering a video project, but that's intensive. #
  • Also, my daily freetime is at an all-time low, so recording (AND writing) daily is prohibitive. Need to do some sort of batch preparation. #
  • Right now @not_pele is out in Philly somewhere looking almost exactly like this: http://bit.ly/4fpXcH #
  • @platypusjones @amanda_nan I should mention I have facial hair in full effect (well, full effect for me) for this purpose. in reply to platypusjones #
  • Saturday (Halloween)

  • @deestbie I do music half-time – anytime I'm not at my wonderful job. I've been playing a fair amount, but not recording; SO time consuming. in reply to deestbie #
  • Goal this weekend: record 3-7 new songs. Obstacles: tidying my recording space, installing codecs, a bit of web design. Ready? GO. #
  • Pics or it didn't happen @PhillyWeekly NOT A JOKE: A-Rod has self-portrait of himself as a centaur above his bed http://bit.ly/2WebML #
  • My hair is too short & I have to hit a drug store for the reading glasses, but otherwise i have this look down today: http://bit.ly/2mxc7k #
  • Alright, apocalyptic studio tidying completed. Now moving on to installing codecs. Blech. The things I do to be DIY. #
  • @lwcavallucci I dunno if I have the furrowing down pat yet ;) in reply to lwcavallucci #
  • Because my plan for today totally included arranging a 2nd Paramore song, this time w/6 flats. Oh, things I'll do for family I actually like #
  • @deestbie My hairdresser encouraged me to do some facial hair: so far it seems to contextualize my music better, in that I don't look 15. in reply to deestbie #
  • And now an hour of vocal warmups. I'm really tight today, hopefully this loosens my voice up enough for some Madonna songs. #
  • @leesafar Extended Play. Longer than a single, less than a LP. My favorite sort of release :) in reply to leesafar #
  • My messa di voce sucks today. ( What is that? See http://bit.ly/4DSjVo ) #
  • Twitter lists are a great bullshit detector – a person with 30k followers who is on only a handful of lists is talking to deaf ears. #
  • @BFIrrera No one in specific; just seeing a lot of the 20-50k follow farmers on a very scant few lists. Confirms my opinion of them. in reply to BFIrrera #
  • @BFIrrera Like, someone with 50 times as many followers as me should not be on a tenth as many lists :) in reply to BFIrrera #
  • The dogs next door love my new song. It's like barking dogs singing jingle bells up in here. I should stick a condenser out in the yard. #
  • @YoungBillyMays I try to be respectful of neighbors as much as possible w/o being able to install sound baffles. No promises about pets, tho in reply to YoungBillyMays #
  • @drewmaniac Jives with my personal motto, "give good, get better" in reply to drewmaniac #
  • @drewmaniac Sometimes I do better living by it than others, but I can feel my barometer sinking if I'm not giving good enough. in reply to drewmaniac #
  • @joshuadenney @joelkelly I can appreciate that position. Large # of followers means you don't have 1:1 relationships & probably use a client in reply to joshuadenney #
  • @joshuadenney @joelkelly That's the 20 of Twitter's 80/20. For people trying to manage smaller #s right on Twitter, the feature is different #
  • @joelkelly @joshuadenney Which is not to say they can't have an opinion on the feature. Just that it's not fulfilling the same need for them in reply to joelkelly #
  • @joelkelly @joshuadenney Someone just starting out who plans to get that big would LOVE lists, because they can grow them organically. in reply to joelkelly #
  • @SharonHayes Indeed, was going to remark about 98/2, but ran out of room for snark. in reply to SharonHayes #
  • @joshuadenney And, clients come & go & lose data. Always better to have the feature on the core site, if it's that essential (and this is) in reply to joshuadenney #
  • Honestly, lack of lists was a major reason I was hesitant to use Twitter; seems insane to grow followers without being able to categorize. #
  • I hear @not_pele making trips to and from the mirror as she transforms into Head Six for another night of slinking around in her red dress. #
  • @SharonHayes @joelkelly @joshuadenney Definitely witnessed list-hating, or at least strong ambivalence, going back to Joel's original point. in reply to SharonHayes #
  • I now bear more than a passing resemblance to Gaius Baltar. #
  • @lizasperling But, I've added people I now have no idea why I added, because I couldn't mark them in any meaningful way. That's #twitterfail in reply to lizasperling #
  • @sharonhayes @joshuadenney I'll have you know you were both on my top-secret "People I Give a Shit About" list, which is how this started :) #
  • To complete my costume I need some diagonally-edged paper with some funny easter-eggs of BSG dialog on it. #
  • @lizasperling Not everyone, but, yes, I plan to monitor people I've forgotten and eventually unfollow them and keep and eye via list only. in reply to lizasperling #
  • For the record, I am a list lover. Also, I actually made myself a presidential inauguration speech on paper w/ cut corners as my Baltar prop #
  • Hanging w/ @amanda_nan @platypusjones & @not_pele and a bunch of rainy people crashing through the door! #
  • Now that wife is on twitter every single person at this party has a handle. BECAUSE WE ARE NERDS. #
  • @lizasperling (a) only interested in them in aggregate or (b) undecided (or decided, I suppose) if you want them in your home stream. in reply to lizasperling #
  • Can't Fox just turn the cameras on @chriscolfer @frankenteen et al instead of this? #phillies #
  • Oh: "You two don't look like you're in costume. You just look sexy. You should introduce yourself, 'hi, I'm sexy.'" #
  • OmfGaGa RT @mikeyzito: RT @mikeyil: Lady Gaga @brimil & Billy Mays @mikeyzito http://twitpic.com/nrxyf in reply to mikeyzito #
  • oh: "this might sound geeky, but are you…" "um, if it sounds geeky you're probably right" #
  • @anniemal that's a good one. in reply to anniemal #
  • If someone would teach Silversun Pickups how to write a chorus or a hook I think they'd be a decent band. #
  • @soundofphilly @youngbillymays Every song is almost good. They all wind up for a chorus that never happens. Their albums are verses-only. in reply to soundofphilly #
  • Sunday

  • Pictures of our geektastic costumes forthcoming – recognized by a whopping FOUR people at our two parties. #
  • How about "Slashfic Mario and Luigi" #badsluttycostumeideas RT @maura Slutty Mario and Luigi #badsluttycostumeideas #
  • Uploading Halloween photos presently… #
  • Our night as Battlestar Galactica's Head Six and Dr. Gaius Baltar, circa S1: http://bit.ly/xRdjB @not_pele @syfy #bsg #
  • Tonight's goal, accomplished: retweeted by the SyFy channel. http://bit.ly/465k0b Hut! #
  • And "Down Under" is stuck in my head why now? #
  • Enjoying a mug of Madagascar Red ( http://bit.ly/2k8GX4 ) prior to an hour of vocal exercises prior to (hopefully) a full day of recording. #
  • @mynenni The more crazy it gets the more fun it is! in reply to mynenni #
  • @Minervity I love that thing! I was reading about it earlier this week. Of course, my first instinct would be to stick my head in the middle in reply to Minervity #
  • My voice is so tight lately – in great, durable shape, but clearly I'm not stretching it enough. #
  • New video codecs are a go! I might have multi-camera studio recordings later tonight. #
  • My diaphragm is just awful right now. Wobbly and weak. Have to go all the way back to doing daily breathing exercises. Blech. #
  • Alright, Twitter off, more tea, then recording. Covers on the slate include Madonna, Rufus Wainwright, Lady Gaga, & Radiohead, among others. #
  • Of course I started with my most difficult, range-spanning vocal. What fun would this be if I didn't start out by psyching myself out? #
  • @phillydesign In a way it will be the first big budget fantasy movie since LotR. But it's sleek, & that's been a turnoff to some. Not me. in reply to phillydesign #
  • Now I recall why I have so relatively few songs recorded; because recording is fucking hard work. #
  • @AdInfinitum Yes, that's why I have no studio album to show for my solo work since 2001 – I hate calling things finished :) in reply to AdInfinitum #
  • In other news, WTF is going on with the Broncos? I suppose the Ravens are a decent foe to take that 1st loss to, but just 7pts on the board? #
  • Last night I learned @Amanda_nan gets a text EVERY TIME I tweet. That's BFF-level commitment; not even my wife would subject herself to that #
  • @aleiter I think it has a strong uncanny valley effect to overcome, plus it's really a whole new way of doing CGI. I'm reserving judgment. in reply to aleiter #
  • @lwcavallucci I will have you know I practiced the look ALL NIGHT in the mirror & you can see me nailing the furrowed brow in every photo :) in reply to lwcavallucci #
  • Wow, are "Eagles" and "Giants" seriously in the trending topics of all of Twitter? Philly is a pretty popular place this season! #
  • @lwcavallucci I think they are viewing the Eagles game as an extension of their Phillies tailgating :) in reply to lwcavallucci #
  • @aleiter Like I said, judgment reserved; the slickness may be contextualized by the environment, which we aren't seeing all of at this point in reply to aleiter #
  • @bkmacdaddy I love you for that post. @not_pele, please see When and How to Dump a Client – http://bit.ly/2Cl0dO in reply to bkmacdaddy #
  • These are phenomenal, both in design and provoking thought. RT @iamkhayyam New York City and Paris ‘Map Cuts’ http://j.mp/1sPs5R //wow! #
