What I Tweeted, 2010-03-21 Edition

March 21, 2010 by krisis

My tweets of the last week:

  • The only Oscar comment I have is that Star Trek was MUCH better than both District 9 and Avatar, yet it was not nominated for Best Picture. #
  • @dorkabella I’m not saying it should have won. More, saying the D9 and Avatar noms were crowd-appeasing nonsense not related to quality. in reply to dorkabella #
  • @dorkabella I probably won’t ever watch Hurt Locker, so I can’t comment on what deserved to win. in reply to dorkabella #
  • I think doing 4 minutes of one-armed push-ups is probably less strenuous than playing “Dumbest Thing I Could Do.” I will master it, yet. #
  • Haha, song from last April, I FOUND YOUR CHORUS! I knew you were going to be awesome, and now you are! #
  • Me as E’s houseboy. (Disclaimer: E condones of neither me being her “houseboy” nor her taking photos of it) http://twitpic.com/17ggil #
  • @brimil So bummed I didn’t make it out. Say hi to all for me! Ask @billlublin when we’re coming over for Beatles Rock Band ;) in reply to brimil #
  • Best Mario flying implement: raccoon suit, feather, or beanie hat? #
  • @redmoonriver I used to just leave them for dead, but more recently I realize just because a song doesn’t come at once doesn’t mean it’s bad in reply to redmoonriver #
  • Just slammed through a solid 1st ever video of my oft-mentioned “Dumbest Thing I Could Do” for my FB page: http://facebook.com/petermarinari #
  • @mikeyil I like the feather as an item, but I never saw what it should do with having a cape. Whereas, the beanie makes sense, but is silly. in reply to mikeyil #
  • @bglusman Oh, that is definitely my lowest of the three. Like, what does it have to do with ANYTHING? in reply to bglusman #
  • @bglusman I played the new one for about 30 minutes this weekend and I am totally in withdraw. But, it wouldn’t be any fun to play alone ;( in reply to bglusman #
  • @bglusman I’m sadly not down there, but a bunch of Philly artists are and doing a showcase. Dani Mari & Boy Wonder, I believe. in reply to bglusman #
  • Do you focus on your strengths or your weaknesses? Strengths are easy & yield results, but your weaknesses could be the key to your dreams. #
  • Left two of my fav songwriters in my house w/E so I can run out to my fav open mic w/my best friend to be Arcati Crisis. It’s a charmed life #
  • @amanda_nan We flove that movie so much. It’s the only studio comedy I’ve liked in years and years. in reply to amanda_nan #
  • Open mic only has one mic stand. It’s trying being a duo sometimes. We’re just going to do gang vocals on the one, I think. #
  • We just did three of our more difficult songs face-to-face (and, in one instance, back-to-back) on a single mic. Hilarious; kinda awesome. #
  • …and then pretty much every local musician I admire/adore walked into the bar at once in a perfect moment of kismet. I love Philly! #
  • @JDEbberly I used to use too many parens, ellipsis, and semi-colons. Now I am a dedicated em dash deployer ;) in reply to JDEbberly #
  • Only on Idol could the best vocalist on the show sing one of the best songs ever written while playing piano & then get panned by the judges #
  • @cheryldoherty Yes, I think she’s the best, but she’s too in-her-head about it. Siobhan has a shot. Crystal is like open mic night, meh. in reply to cheryldoherty #
  • @MannyRechani Thanks for following! It seems we have more than a few friends in common, but I’m still interested to know how you found me. #
  • @lisamay77 Thanks for following, Lisa! I see you know Nan and some other folks – have we already met at a local event? in reply to lisamay77 #
  • @phillybosslady Yes yes yes! I cannot wait to hear Vicky originals. I’ll come over to jam anytime :) in reply to phillybosslady #
  • @DirtMansion Any further news on those possible Philly residencies? in reply to DirtMansion #
  • @NateyR Thanks for following! I’m not sure if we have met in person or not, but I’m sure we must have some friends in common, yes? #
  • @lisamay77 Oh! I didn’t recognize your photo b/c your hair looks so dark. I’m so glad you found me on here! I hope we get to hang out soon. in reply to lisamay77 #
  • @phillybosslady So very agreed. I would die to hear an album of original you stuff. in reply to phillybosslady #
  • @MannyRechani Looks like you talk to many @trendcamp and #140conf folks – I wasn’t at 140 on Monday, but did attend the previous one. in reply to MannyRechani #
  • @NateyR I don’t know anyone following you, but Philly’s a small town ;) About to plunge headfirst into copyediting. You? in reply to NateyR #
  • @cheryldoherty I’m hoping the theme weeks break her out of the coffee house vibe and she shows some real savvy. Ditto for Katelyn. in reply to cheryldoherty #
  • @amanda_nan I was tempted to say this was crazy, but if I still ate chicken I would totally be there. Probs @not_pele too :) in reply to amanda_nan #
  • @cheryldoherty The guys are totally irrelevant to me, except for maybe Lynche. A shame John Park was boring; he was 1 of the better singers in reply to cheryldoherty #
  • Smart @mashable post on OK Go leaving label EMI just weeks after dropping their 3rd LP. Hint: viral video is a factor. http://bit.ly/9NVMRp #
  • @marykateruf @ryandaniel oo, i was just reading an article about that book today and wondering who i could borrow it from :) in reply to marykateruf #
  • @phillydesign Wow, that was a pretty awesome article. Thanks! in reply to phillydesign #
  • Has working with an amazing team of designers for over three years rubbed off on me at all? (i.e., it’s time to design a flyer for the show) #
  • I am totally zen about losing all of my progress thus far while trying to faithfully to save. Now I know just what I want it to look like. #
  • After a long struggle I wound up designing a flyer for our 4/7 Tin Angel show in both Illustrator AND InDesign, which was a major refresher. #
  • Invites, flyers, et al will arrive next week, so consider this your gentle save the date – 4/7, me, harmony, bands I dig, $8 @ The Tin Angel #
  • Domain expiration warning emails are only effectively if you are checking the email that they are being sent to. Fun fact. #
  • Musicians, take note: AMAZING article about Ellis Paul, 1000 True Fans, release strategy, and much more. http://bit.ly/boRHND #
  • I don’t know what’s more awesome: that I’m now officially posting to social media site for work, or that my boss suggested the word “gnarly” #
  • Found @mikeyil & @bigredtim‘s nemesis in #fiestamovement but @brimil won’t let me write on windows w/liptstick ;) http://twitpic.com/17xl99 #
  • Just picked up a pair of @conanobrien tix for Tower Theatre in June, Considering the obscene rate other cities sold out, might buy extras… #
  • Great, lengthy NYT interview with Parker & Stone, creators of South Park. http://nyti.ms/aV5lPL #
  • @geekadelphia Don’t FF games generally run about 70 hours? You can totally do it by next week :) in reply to geekadelphia #
  • @jayvert rock out tonight! I wound up making plans to catch up w/open mic peeps. I need to see yr band and hang with you sometime soon. in reply to jayvert #
  • @mookyninja ahhh! Is it awesome? I’m starting it with my brother on Saturday. in reply to mookyninja #
  • @mookyninja yeah, my complaint of 12 was that the battle felt so physically active and engaged, but then you didn’t have to do anything in reply to mookyninja #
  • Many friendly faces at Crossroads open mic. Might mark the public unveiling of “Dumbest Thing I Could Do.” We’ll see if my courage sustains. #
  • @CaseyAlvarez I highly endorse this development in Casey communications technology. in reply to CaseyAlvarez #
  • Unleashed it at no more than 3 different tempos. Ha. Now chilling w/all my favs: Joshua Popejoy, Bill McConney, Aaron Brown, Alec Stewart… #
  • I haven’t heard Josh play “Just One Thing” in, like, 9 months? E designed the new look for his site @ http://joshuapopejoy.com last summer. #
  • Aaron Brown, 1 of the best songwriters I know. Hints of Queen, Stevie W, Rufus Wainwright, Nina Simone, but all his own http://bit.ly/aHavqk #
  • Bill McConney combines a Nick Drake vocal influence with deft, rhythmic guitar. I love the push/pull of his stuff. http://bit.ly/cjh3GB #
  • (I’m sorry these artist links are predominantly MySpace. It’s still super-ubiquitous on the local music scene, much to my chagrin.) #
  • Annnnnd, Idol kicks off the biggest potential mainstream money-making artist they found in this sorry crop. Farewell, Katelyn Epperly. #
  • @TraceyJWhitney It’s a comment on how badly musicians needed a convenient non-domain platform; now will take years to dismantle its ubiquity in reply to TraceyJWhitney #
  • @TraceyJWhitney easier alternatives are plentiful now (fb, reverbnation, wp domain blog) but artists (& promoters) are trapped in the habit in reply to TraceyJWhitney #
  • @TraceyJWhitney seeing artists take the position of using all SNs a bit, incl twitter, park a flat page on a domain, sell/stream @bandcamp in reply to TraceyJWhitney #
  • @TraceyJWhitney I like the management tools at reverbnation, but it’s still very cookie-cutter – just a savvier cooky ;) in reply to TraceyJWhitney #
  • @IONRyan Seriously, what a bloodbath. Not sure if any of them deserved to go. in reply to IONRyan #
  • @sonnygill Agreed. I love a day or two of conference tweets, but this is just going to be depressing – or inspiration to start saving ;p in reply to sonnygill #
  • @paultab oh, she’s definitely my top pick now. I just think they thinned out the people who would be more interesting in theme weeks. in reply to paultab #
  • Big bar crowd here at McGillin’s, whose street I can never find. It’s like Underland. Meanwhile, I detect a strong chance of GaGa covers… #
  • @jen_k omg, I covet them. in reply to jen_k #
  • @paultab yeah, Todrick would have made things interesting, but probs had no real chance. in reply to paultab #
  • @brimil jeals, and nearby. Hmm. in reply to brimil #
  • @big_onion I think I know someone on that bill? @leesafar ? in reply to big_onion #
  • Just room is trending middle aged men, not sure Gaga is the right cover to unleash. Bowie? A little stumped now. #
  • Some random dude from this lawyer happy hour just got up and delivered a pretty spot-on version of “one,” complete with bono theatrics. #
  • That was one of the most crazy fierce sets I have played, ever. Big win for “Dumbest Thing I Could Do.” Loving life right now ;) #
  • Someone in the crowd just yelled out, “play Stonehenge.” First time I’ve heard anyone sub a Spinal Tap tune for “Freebird.” #
  • @McGillins Always a fun time! :) Mark is an awesome host. BTW, who can I talk to about having an event / happy hour upstairs? cc: @wfenza in reply to McGillins #
  • Hey, #ff ers: Who are your favorite musicians to follow on Twitter? I’d love to hear who – and why. I’ll share a few of mine a little later. #
  • @big_onion Someone I Twitter-know. Aussie, sortof a more acoustic/gothic vibe on Evanescence. I know she’s in NO to play a show this month. in reply to big_onion #
  • I’m seeking local (not necessarily Philly) artists to interview for a new blog feature (possibly to syndicate on a music blog). Interested? #
  • @eddidit Was thinking music artists, since that’s my strength, but it’d be ideal to do visual as well. Want to reawaken my inner journalist. in reply to eddidit #
  • Cool #ff from @TraceyJWhitney – 2 makeup artists tweeting their craft: @makeupartistjoy @SallyGuillen. Looking forward to checking them out. #
  • @eddidit Awesome. Do you have a preferred bio & portfolio for me to check out to brew up some questions? in reply to eddidit #
  • @foolingapril Ooo, you are SO ON. Maybe I can interview you guys prior to the show and then cover the show as well? in reply to foolingapril #
  • @DirtMansion I’ll DM you with some details :) in reply to DirtMansion #
  • Philly artists came through w/amazing response to my feeler for acts to interview. This might lead to something bigger than I planned #
  • @suzi_quzi had you not seen it before? The chords to origin are on my blog, if you need I can point you to the link. in reply to suzi_quzi #
  • @lwcavallucci sending me into a spiral of depression. I’ve never had to miss it in real time before :) in reply to lwcavallucci #
  • I know I am sheltered here without a TV, but did I seriously just see a Verizon ad on Hulu set to the song from Big Red gum? #
  • @TraceyJWhitney YES. I just saw it again. It has the ironic smiley harmony and everything. Who scores a commercial with another commercial? in reply to TraceyJWhitney #
  • @TraceyJWhitney (I mean, the lyrics are different, but still) (also, how do the publishing rights on that work?) in reply to TraceyJWhitney #
  • @TraceyJWhitney Oh, definitely. I keep getting it on 30 Rock episodes on Hulu, if you want to fish for it :) in reply to TraceyJWhitney #
  • @MStokes I just watched that episode a few minutes ago. Hilarity. in reply to MStokes #
  • I’m sorry, did they really nominate a movie for Oscar that features George Clooney SEXTING? For reals? #
  • @PAWeissenstein Good morning! It’s bit dismal here, but I am feeling high energy despite myself :) in reply to PAWeissenstein #
  • @legalninjaKris I made peace with the ribbons, finally. in reply to legalninjaKris #
  • @bengarvey Yes! I think creating the “one true version” of 12 songs at once was a barrier to a lot of artists. I like that it’s eroding. in reply to bengarvey #
  • Any day where I have blogged, done two loads of laundry, and washed dishes before 10am is in the win column. I could just go to bed now. #
  • @bengarvey I usually reserve that brand of drinking for the 4th of July, only. ;) in reply to bengarvey #
  • @SecondandSouth I like the 12 change; complements the G bus running from SW in the other direction. As a SW kid it was hard to get to South. in reply to SecondandSouth #
  • @chiah I wish I was down there to see you! I authorize @thatdrew to give you a proxy hug if you run into each other again :) in reply to chiah #
  • Editorial Calendar, or Super Mario World. Hmm. #
  • North NJ is a mess. We keep hitting roads closed for flooding or downed power lines /trees. I think bro’s closing night might be canceled ;( #
  • Apparently E’s entire home town has no power, including the high school. Might be turning around and heading back to Philly… #
  • The one time I didn’t drag my guitar & several books with me for a weekend in NJ the power is out for miles around. Heading back to Philly. #
  • Well, now we’re trapped IN New Jersey, by flooding on rt 1. Charming. #
  • @bokane E has been comparing it to Silent Hill & The Village, mostly because she hasn’t scene 2012. in reply to bokane #
  • @radiocolin we’d offer to rescue you if we hadn’t just had to circumnavigate her entire township just to find a non flooded route. in reply to radiocolin #
  • @heathie @gloriabell @MVMNT_Mike @Jenniferalyse Perhaps we can collaborate on a realistic budget for attendance & have a savings club :) #
  • @foolingapril I’m working on an editorial calendar, & trying to recruit someone for photos. I’ll be in touch via email in the next few days. in reply to foolingapril #
  • @DirtMansion I’m putting together an editorial calendar for the artists who volunteered. I’ll get back to you soon about a next step, ok? in reply to DirtMansion #
  • After all these years, Spiderman & X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge is still a terrible video game. I hoped it would be less disppointing, somehow #
  • Why must I be hit with a “feed a cold” type of fever the same weekend I buy my first scale? The fates, they are cruel. #
  • @phillydesign I thought maybe it would make me less neurotic if I could see that my weight actually stays constant within a pound or two. in reply to phillydesign #
  • @kierankelly I’ve always been bugged by that. I suppose the premise is that the model is mostly sold in the next year? Wonder how it started in reply to kierankelly #
  • @theoreticalgirl Technotronic, really? Personally, I cannot wrap my head around the Verizon commercial using the Big Red theme song. Creepy. in reply to theoreticalgirl #
  • @bigredtim I have been in the same denial all weekend. Begin ultra-hydrating immediately! in reply to bigredtim #
  • Seth Godin succinctly explains why I don’t watch television. http://bit.ly/bcuiCp #
  • I have a big show coming up! I’ll be playing at the Tin Angel with my duo, Arcati Crisis, on Wednesday, April 7. Tix @ http://bit.ly/tin1004 #
  • @SmashleyDubs HELL YES. We need to get on top of pre-sale dates/codes ASAP. Just Wachovia, or are we doing a field trip? in reply to SmashleyDubs #
  • @jennlyn81 Booo! I was hoping the earlier start for this one would mean you could make it home at a reasonable hour. in reply to jennlyn81 #
  • @jennlyn81 Tin is at 2nd and Market, so it’s a five minute, two-stop El ride to Market East. in reply to jennlyn81 #
  • Between the nasty rain outside and the teeming inbox inside I’m thinking there will be some bonus hours at the office tonight. #
  • Two months of crazy have begun: our 4/7 Tin Angel show, bff’s wedding, #140conf @ibxrun10, and Ms. Reardon Drinks A Little @ The Shubin. #
  • @IONRyan haha, awesome! I’ll send you a concert of us on youtube when I get home. Although, we don’t chatter as much on there ;) in reply to IONRyan #
  • @SarahPsyDeal the answer to any ice cream related question is always yes ;) in reply to SarahPsyDeal #
  • @IONRyan You can check out an entire concert worth of rehearsal on YouTube, including some newers songs and covers: http://bit.ly/ac0912-LAR in reply to IONRyan #
  • @romez Haha, I had considered doing something similar this past weekend, but I am not nearly that swift with adlib lyrics. in reply to romez #
  • @anniemal I always find it encouraging when my entire unfollow report is people who added in the last 3 days and haven’t talked me at all. in reply to anniemal #
  • @Justin_Freid Hey, just caught your article on @a2sm! I need to sit down and finish my article for them :) How are you? in reply to Justin_Freid #
  • I want to go to see Kara Dioguardi at the Borgata next month – I wonder what she’ll sing for a whole set? All stuff she’s co-written? #
  • @thatdrew Wish I was there with you right now. LiveStrong, my friend. #
  • Why do I see a night of remote log-in live from an open mic in my very near future? #
  • @burgerbaroness I think I’m going to miss you – just leaving work and still have to run home for my guitar ;( #
  • Sadly, no open mic for me tonight – a cold and allergies have double-whammied me to sounding like a pubescent, complete with cracking voice. #
  • That was one of the worst episodes of American Idol I have ever heard. There is not a winner in that bunch. #
  • @cheryldoherty Seriously, they kicked off four of the most interesting people last week. They would have all classed up this affair. in reply to cheryldoherty #
  • Philly peeps: Have you registered for Blue Cross Broad Street Run yet? Don’t forget, registration is capped at 30k runners. See @ibxrun10 #
  • @ibxrun10 How can people become volunteers for the run? Do they have to do it through a corporate group, or can they be solo? CC: @jennlyn81 #
  • Even the corporate bits of Market street are a hot mess of slurring drunks in green. #
  • @sifelaver Some vegan advice? RT @wockerjabby: @krisis any ideas for center city lunch spots friendly to vegans, omnivores, and laptops? in reply to wockerjabby #
  • Lengthy LA Times article with Bryan Singer, revisiting the process of X-Men and looking forward to future X-films. http://bit.ly/ciT1PH #

  • @wfenza No! Not Honky Mormo! RT @FOX29philly: The Philadelphia Eagles released wide receiver Kevin Curtis http://bit.ly/dC3yzC in reply to FOX29philly #
  • I am at a West Philly karaoke birthday dance party writhing to Get Up Offa That Thing. It is awesome. #
  • Note to self: you cannot sing higher just because it is karaoke. Stop putting in tenor songs. #
  • “And I’m Telling You I Am Not Going” is not so much a karaoke song as it is a public screaming match you get into with yourself in a bar. #
  • Realizing that you already completed the presentation you rushed into work to slave over = AWESOME #
  • My presentation made sense(!), and I have NOT entirely lost the power of speech due to my dalliance with Whitesnake at karaoke. #
  • I need a nap. Instead I will get a happy hour with co-workers and a concert. Not a terrible trade, I suppose. #
  • Had to bail on our happy hour – the service (and attitude) at Jolly’s Dueling Piano Bar was too terrible to reward with patronage. #
  • Not sure how four bartenders with a server:customer ratio of 1:4 could pointedly ignore me for 15 minutes while I literally waved money. #
  • @MannyRechani you know, I was just thinking that I don’t spend enough time practicing tricks to catch the eye of happy hour bartenders ;) in reply to MannyRechani #
  • @cheryldoherty I was actually just browing a few C. City bars that are bad at social media. As for good ones? @mcgillins & @natmechanics in reply to cheryldoherty #
  • @PrestonInside Ha. A certain kind of fun. I dislike karaoke, but it was an amazing group of friends to spend the night out with. in reply to PrestonInside #
  • @jennlyn81 it was downhill from there ;) in reply to jennlyn81 #
  • That was the best episode of 30 Rock, ever. Even without throwing batteries. #
  • It’s my brother’s musical closing night & he got into college & he bought Beatles Rock Band & it’s spring. Basically the best Saturday ever. #
  • Hoarse again but for a different reason: hours of Beatles Rock Band. Amazing how much better I am at RB singing songs I’ve known since birth #
