What I Tweeted, 2010-04-03 Edition

April 3, 2010 by krisis

My tweets of the last week:

  • I wasn’t intending to finish a lost song from 2005 tonight, but I have no complaints. #
  • Ok, I’m a little less excited now that I realize the song sounds like Jack Johnson. Still, nice to free up a circuit in my brain after 5yrs. #
  • Phila Weekly article on Philly’s “Neo Folk” scene. I’m a fan of almost all of these acts. http://bit.ly/d8tacw #
  • I’ve always resisted a folk label for me or for Arcati Crisis (& held back the songs that would warrant it), but suddenly it’s fashionable! #
  • Not to say either could suddenly flip to being folk artists, but maybe I won’t be so offended when I see us occasionally labelled that way. #
  • @kimberleylocke Thanks for the follow! You were my favorite of S2, and I’ve always checked in on you since them :) in reply to kimberleylocke #
  • @billlublin It tends to be a sort of “f word” in indie music, tho, constraining audience and giving you an excuse to never write good hooks. in reply to billlublin #
  • @billlublin True. What’s funny is I have at least a solid album of more folk-oriented stuff packed away that never sees light in my sets. in reply to billlublin #
  • A well-reasoned, historically-minded op-ed. RT @HighTalk NYTimes: The Rage Is Not About Health Care http://s.nyt.com/u/ZeQ #
  • @marenhogan I love waking up w/new material in my mind. Not only a relief to have dreamt it, but creativity from dreams is very pure/focused in reply to marenhogan #
  • @spin_ncbv Thanks for following. You seemed like a random add, but I like your message and your mission! :) in reply to spin_ncbv #
  • @karensugarpants Thanks for following, Karen. Just curious to know how you found me. Best – P in reply to karensugarpants #
  • @500_Degrees Any plans to add a veggie burger, or is your business model beef-only? #
  • Garrison has been a favorite, a inspiration, & a idol since I first picked up a guitar RT @garrisonstarr http://www.facebook.com/garrisonstarrmusic #
  • @garrisonstarr You should add a bio & a link to your FB or homepage. Otherwise, people have to wait for your next link to listen to you! #
  • Just had a local promoter share an interesting metric w/me: advance sales x 3.5 = total attendance. Does this jive with your experiences? #
  • @mptomei Wow, if I thought I would whip up that sort of thing (or had @jshanley to do it for me) I’d totally cleanse for the new season! ;) in reply to mptomei #
  • @eddidit I’ve heard the 60% of RSVP number. So, the math is .6 * (RSVP – Advance) + 3.5 * Advance = Audience? in reply to eddidit #
  • @ladygaga Happy birthday to one of my favorite artists, musical or otherwise. Be happy and healthy, and keep sharing your vision! #
  • @theoreticalgirl Certainly true, but there’s a definitely consistency to what to expect from Philly fans in the local 50-200 person venues. in reply to theoreticalgirl #
  • @eddidit I’ll have to try it out for our show on 4/7 – the only factor I won’t know directly is advance sales, but the promoter will share. in reply to eddidit #
  • @jennlyn81 Yeah, but I didn’t leave room for a # :) A friend got vehemently anti-Gaga on me last night. Was like, “My convert ratio is 100%” in reply to jennlyn81 #
  • @theoreticalgirl (being ignorant; what is “PP” short for?) in reply to theoreticalgirl #
  • @theoreticalgirl I was part of a similar promo group for the past seven years, but got tired of org-ing/marketing shows for other bands. in reply to theoreticalgirl #
  • @lwcavallucci Oo, sneaky & effective counter-argument. I think I’d ask for metrics of what competition level 5 pros were playing at age 10. in reply to lwcavallucci #
  • @lwcavallucci haha, awesome. I like him. in reply to lwcavallucci #
  • Spending the early afternoon doing vocal exercises and rehearsing – perhaps heading out to the Triumph open mic tonight if I’m in good voice #
  • My Google-Fu is failing me: need a site that has a CD new release calendar w/archive of past weeks, including major stuff from indie to Idol #
  • @djmarilyn I was poking around their new release feature, but didn’t see an archive of past ones. Maybe just as articles? Trying Metacritic. in reply to djmarilyn #
  • @SmashleyDubs Clearly we have been talking about Idol, but so do a lot of people. Maybe she has a big Philly promo coming up? in reply to SmashleyDubs #
  • @djmarilyn A **fantastic* discography site I use religiously is RateYourMusic.com, but I haven’t figured out how to sort strictly by date. in reply to djmarilyn #
  • Unfollowed former AI-er @kimberleylocke for the annoying, impersonal, salesy auto-DM I got when I followed her. Bad marketing, team Klocke. #
  • Best archive-enhanced New Release calendar I’ve sussed out so far is http://www.amoeba.com/music/new-releases/ #
  • I find it hilarious that there are songs I wrote 5-10yrs ago that I ditched & it turns out I just wasn’t a good enough guitarist at the time #
  • @yelyahwilliams New Jersey had a blackout a few weeks ago, and I spent the entire time playing @LadyGaga songs on piano. Totally fun. in reply to yelyahwilliams #
  • Movie day at Chez Krisis: “We think Jason Lee should be in every movie.” @amanda_nan: “That’s a really good idea! You should tell him that.” #
  • If Philly’s Lilith Fair date has both Kelly Clarkson and Heart I am going to have a complete fan meltdown. #
  • I must bow down to the indie music knowledge of @amanda_nan. I had no idea: Straylight Run, Ra Ra Riot, Spinto Band, Rocking Horse Winner… #
  • @hchybinski No, not quite up to our date yet! I keep checking and getting more rabid about the new artists they add. Freaking HEART! in reply to hchybinski #
  • @jacmmkay Also, interesting that it’s listed as a Philly date rather than Camden. Same thing? Or, maybe the Mann? in reply to jacmmkay #
  • @jacmmkay There’s one bus that runs up Walnut pretty much right to the doorstep. in reply to jacmmkay #
  • Present debate (one bottle of champagne in): In HP3 does Dumbledore suspect at all that Sirius Black isn’t the murderer he’s made out to be? #
  • Apparently now that I have my curls back my sartorial mission in life is to dress like a Jonas Brother. Or, at least, for today it is. #
  • @amanda_nan Seriously, I knew you had some music cred, but not quite so much ;) in reply to amanda_nan #
  • I’ve already had three mini-meetings this morning. Good thing I am dressed like a corporate Jonas Bro. Maybe that’s CAUSING the meetings… #
  • This morning I’m really digging an LP I picked up by Kylie Auldist – check it out @ http://www.lala.com/artist/Kylie_Auldist #musicmonday #
  • Philly friends: My acoustic duo is playing the Tin Angel next Wednesday! FB Invite: http://bit.ly/tin1004fb Tix: http://bit.ly/tin1004 #
  • My iPod keeps serving up Little Boots, a UK electro-popper just now hopping the pond. Digging “Ghost.” http://lala.com/artist/Little_Boots #
  • @jayvert Seriously? I would definitely come with for that. in reply to jayvert #
  • @gloriabell You and me both! Maybe it’s because I am hopped up on allergy medication, but time is flying by. in reply to gloriabell #
  • @brimil My heartbreak is outstripped only by my excitement for you :) in reply to brimil #
  • I am considering reversing my jihad against Tegan & Sara. Their harmony is still underwhelming, but Sainthood is pretty freaking catchy. #
  • @Digitas_Health I hope you’re happy to be stealing @brimil, 1 of my favorite coworkers, ever. Seriously, though, you’re going to love her ;) in reply to Digitas_Health #
  • @wfenza um, whatever it is you better be coming with me in reply to wfenza #
  • At the friendly neighborhood social media mecha, @natmechanics, to catch my friends Dani Mari and Vicky Spaeth play a benefit show. #
  • Having a very intensely musical day where I can pick out all sorts of familar chords and melodies out of each song I hear. #
  • @pattypunker What said that? Your browser? I had a brief hacking issue last month that I resolved – hate to think it’s resulting in that! in reply to pattypunker #
  • @bengarvey Really like verses. Wsh one of the steps in the chorus melody was a little more different. I like the 2nd post-C into the bridge. in reply to bengarvey #
  • @bengarvey It took me until the 2nd “friend” in the 1st chorus to realize I was in a chorus, which made the jump to friend the primary hook. in reply to bengarvey #
  • @pattypunker Looks like this is a (not entirely helpful) “service” provided by IE8. I sent in a dispute. in reply to pattypunker #
  • @pattypunker It would be helpful if you clicked “Report that this is not a phishing website” to also send in a response. in reply to pattypunker #
  • So, Internet Explorer 8 – in its infinite, MicroSoft-powered wisdom – has determined that my blog is a phishing site. That’s just great. #
  • @pattypunker Thanks – they lifted the warning this morning! I’m so glad you said something. in reply to pattypunker #
  • On one hand, the rain is ugly and my email is exploding. OTOH, Microsoft doesn’t think my blog is phishing anymore, and my hair is awesome. #
  • Philly folks: Arcati Crisis (my band) is playing the Tin Angel next Wed, 4/7! FB Invite: http://bit.ly/tin1004fb Tix: http://bit.ly/tin1004 #
  • There are a ton of amazing Philly shows between now and our show, so if you’re looking for some music to hear before then let me know ;) #
  • @ryandaniel OMG, “We have PDF” is fricking hilarious. in reply to ryandaniel #
  • @djmarilyn Not only ugly, but it even *sounds* gross. in reply to djmarilyn #
  • It seems counter-intuitive that if I work extra-hard & extra-long one day that the next one invariably sucks, but I can’t argue with facts. #
  • True for me as well. RT @omjfacts Nick Jonas loves it when girls talk about him while he is performing. “Did you see his curls shaking?!” #
  • Fascinating: Natalie Merchant returns to music w/an expansive & already-acclaimed album of old poems & “nonsense verse” http://bit.ly/cnQrtF #
  • Are you a Philly Beatles lover? Local act @foolingapril plays the entirety of Abbey Road @ WCL on Thursday. Their Sgt. Pepper’s was AMAZING. #
  • Says @foolingapril frontman Brian to @Phillyist: “We are really going all out here to give you a deadly accurate rendition of these songs.” #
  • I love when an originals band tackles a cover project; more impressive than a cover band. @mpomy just posted about that http://bit.ly/94ft0O #
  • I love this: Lennon said [Maxwell’s Silver Hammer] was “more of Paul’s granny music,” & refused to participate in the recording of the song. #
  • @bengarvey More impressive when an originals band can do a range of covers by one artist than when a cover band raptly imitates them. in reply to bengarvey #
  • @dorkabella I want it! They’re a little low key for me, but I’ve liked most of what I’ve heard of them so far. in reply to dorkabella #
  • Gee, just what I was hoping for this evening: an atomic-level domestic disturbance between my neighbors in which a primary topic is buggery. #
  • That performance from Siobhan was noxious enough to strip paint. So much for my theory of her being the best vocalist. #idol #
  • @JadeYG Loved it! Also loved the rarely honest, uncontrived reaction from the panel. in reply to JadeYG #
  • Michael Lynche just pulled off an incredibly-rare low-key #idol performance that was universally praised by the judgery. Good stuff. #
  • @mjsbigblog That had to have been the most uncomfortable Seacrest moment of all time. So strange. Good for Didi for the snark back at him. in reply to mjsbigblog #
  • I woke up in a blind panic basically every hour on the hour last night for no discernible reason. No more odd fat-free ice cream before bed. #
  • @brimil Everything about that is disturbing except for the part about @johnnynines. Mine was about flash-flooding & stealing Winged Victory. in reply to brimil #
  • I told you about the awesome @foolingapril Abbey Road show tomorrow & my Tin Angel gig on 4/7 but I have MORE local shows to tell you about! #
  • On Fri I’ll play some tunes as an opener for Philly Primary Stages, indie short plays w/titles like “Fighting Mr Right” http://bit.ly/bmASJ9 #
  • I don’t know how men wear skinny jeans. I have my Euro Skinny Dress Pants on and I feel like I’m totally naked, even if I look like a Beatle #
  • @redmoonriver Ha, more like “she can see exactly what I’ve got, yeah, yeah, yeah.” in reply to redmoonriver #
  • @melissa_shae Are you coming to see @foolingapril tomorrow! Thursday night isn’t a school night this week ;) in reply to melissa_shae #
  • @amanda_nan @melissa_shae RT @foolingapril looks like the show tomorrow is gonna sell-out. Grab your tickets now: http://bit.ly/dcuQFz #
  • @_missbee I’ve always wondered if Drexel would let me sponsor a classroom, or maybe a lavatory. in reply to _missbee #
  • Still in a bit of shock that I draft strategy/copy for Social Media at my REAL JOB. Amazing. So thankful, & it’s partly thanks to @brimil. #
  • A year ago if you said, “Peter, you’ll be staying late to work on your Social Media editorial calendar” I probably would have giggled at you #
  • Oh, tricksy cab driver, I know your proposed way will cost me more (ie, the way that’s LONG AND SLOW), but nice try. #
  • At Lickety Split on South to catch the super-sweet http://caseyalvarez.com (and also work on my laptop at the bar, one of my fav pastimes). #
  • Casey just played a song so amazing I’m sort of incredulous it isn’t a cover, but Google has nothing to say on the matter. Seeking a DL link #
  • I keep running into @danimarirock this week, perhaps because she is the hub of all things musical in Center City. #
  • Okay, okay, the real reason to have my laptop at the bar is to do some writing. So, let’s do that, shall we? #
  • @stagetrailers Will quiz @caseyalvarez when we chat. Such an incredibly intuitive chorus, it seems silly no one has thought of it before. in reply to stagetrailers #
  • I love a lot of Philly music, but at the apex of that list of favs is Alexandra Day. Stunning voice, incomparable songs. http://bit.ly/cSB87 #
  • She’s part Norah Jones, part Fiona Apple, and part Maureen from Rent, with a large glass of red wine and a pink flamingo by the stage-side. #
  • Everytime I see Alexandra I want to write new music. I actually wrote Something Real ( http://bit.ly/9IZI1Z ) in my head at one of her shows #
  • @themeagan and krisis loves shuffle! More free music: I’m at a @foolingapril show right now, you can dl their newest cd for free on bandcamp in reply to themeagan #
  • Getting my ass kicked by @foolingapril‘s originals set – almost time for Abbey Road! #
  • @brimil Um, am I supposed to be somewhere with you right now? Which Cantina? in reply to brimil #
  • Starting to warm up for our opening gig for Philly Primary Stages ( http://bit.ly/bmASJ9 ), which is a promo for the Tin Angel gig next week #
  • A fun night with Primary Stages acting as their house music. We played *every* Arcati Crisis song – good warmup for Tin Angel on Wednesday! #
  • @paullucci Paul, I tried, but I cannot parse that tweet ;) in reply to paullucci #
  • I know I can stream it for free from Netflix, but it is very hard to resist buying 30 Rock DVDs at a mere $15 per season. #
  • @paullucci Haha. I wanted to go to that show, but we got a last minute offer to play elsewhere ;( – which Gaga tune did he do? in reply to paullucci #
  • @amanda_nan @not_pele I might try to head back to WCL to catch a show of @dantebucci and two of our other friends. in reply to amanda_nan #
  • Meeting @sifelaver at a secret vegan retro dance party. Concerned because my shoes are leather & my hair is not in top form. May be shunned. #
