What I Tweeted, 2010-05-24 Edition

May 24, 2010 by krisis

My best and most blog-worthy tweets of the last week:

In the middle of band rehearsal – new covers in full effect! We’ve hit an expected Smokey Robinson song, but also a surprising Muse tune! #
Oh lord, I just realized have two new songs of harmony to learn. It’s been a while. #
Also, interesting how G and I come at songs differently. I immediately arrange or find voicings, she immediately finds harmony/counterpoint. #

Utterly fantastic interview w/a metal/screamer vocal coach that has good info for all singers (even the quieter ones). http://bit.ly/9sCqbp #

Jorge Garcia reminisces about his time w/Lost. Even for non-fans, interesting insight into an actor landing a big showhttp://bit.ly/9h9JZP #

Nothing like looking sharp on a Friday afternoon.http://twitpic.com/1pr3xz #

A handy list of fallacious arguments, for the days that you feel like interacting with the trolls: http://bit.ly/ak3hMP #

This is my new all-time favorite piece of rock journalism – a day w/ @LadyGaga in Berlin. Amazing. RT @MentalYogahttp://bit.ly/aZxW4n #

Every house-shaking thump of the bass drum from the block party PA system is another $1k that the new house is worth. #

.

All of my tweets (minus some @-replies) are hidden below, mostly for my own reference. Some highlighted topics/conversations you might want to browse include:

  • Comfort Movies / Adventures In Babysitting
  • Skydiving (aborted)

      Sunday Evening / Monday

    • After a pretty rough two hours I have worked out the harmony to a potential new Arcati Crisis cover – it would be the newest song we do: ’06 #
    • Philly City Council votes on a bill that would strangle Philly’s vibrant local music scene. Speak out w/ http://bit.ly/savethescene #
    • Wednesday

    • This song is pretty much single-handedly keeping my day in motion: Paper & Glue by Emma Pollock. http://iLike.com/s/2zkXR #
    • Reminding myself (& you) to install handy proofreading plugin After the Deadline on my home PCs http://bit.ly/byJCc9 #
    • Can you re-brand with interior design? McDonald’s will revise 500 stores a la McStarbucks in a bid for upscale suburbs http://bit.ly/b886nq #

    • Utterly fantastic interview w/a metal/screamer vocal coach that has good info for all singers (even the quieter ones). http://bit.ly/9sCqbp #
    • Any crumminess I feel today is eradicated by a) @wfenza graduating law school! & b) leaping from a plane w/him, Gina, & @schmidtultra on Sat #
    • @cathybpa @anniemal part of why Drexel is so awesome – everyone has to be an intern, at least once. in reply to cathybpa #
    • Just passed by RT @BreakingNews Officials say suspicious balloon found near Liberty Bell Pavilion ‘nothing hazardous’ http://bit.ly/9imVqh #
    • My day was rough enough that I am sprawled across our armchair watching “Adventures In Babysitting.” And, don’t eff with the babysitter, ok? #
    • @anniemal I have particular go-to movies for sick days. It was either this or Princess Bride. Actually, it might be this AND Princess Bride. in reply to anniemal #
    • All I’m sayin’ is that the big Kenneth Branagh “Thor” movie better have at least one Adventures In Babysitting reference. Or Elizabeth Shue. #
    • @marykateruf It is one of my major comfort movies, all of which I own on DVD. Well, except for Lost Boys. That was awful enough to sell. in reply to marykateruf #
    • @JamesAWoods Seriously, Shue would make a fantastic Asgardian. She’s very Nordic. in reply to JamesAWoods #
    • @marykateruf I built Lost Boys up to E as “Buffy of the 80s.” She was, let’s say, slightly disappointed. in reply to marykateruf #
    • @marykateruf Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, The Last Unicorn, Star Wars, Indiana Jones… I think I have a post on my blog about this :) in reply to marykateruf #
    • @marykateruf OMG, that’s what we watched on our first date. E catches me with quotes from it all the time. in reply to marykateruf #
    • @londonmodgirl haha, Wife argued in favor of that one, but it’s not officially part of my childhood “home-sick” canon. in reply to londonmodgirl #
    • @chrisbrogan We loved Push. Seems like it got a little diced in editing, but it was one of the best superhero movies I’ve ever seen. in reply to chrisbrogan #
    • One of my biggest linguistic pet peeves is people using “acoustical” when they mean “acoustic,” like, “MTV Unplugged is always acoustical.” #
    • Friday

    • At the United Way of SE PA Champions For Impact celebrations w/ our wonderful @ibx United Way team! #
    • Super-cool: @shareurmeal flyers at every plate at the United Way event – the speaker asked that we all share a photo of our eggs! #
    • Jorge Garcia reminisces about his time w/Lost. Even for non-fans, interesting insight into an actor landing a big show http://bit.ly/9h9JZP #
    • Nothing like looking sharp on a Friday afternoon. http://twitpic.com/1pr3xz #
    • I’m no Google logo connoisseur, but I’m pretty sure we’ve never been able to PLAY the Google logo before. Oblong Pac-Man FTW! #
    • A handy list of fallacious arguments, for the days that you feel like interacting with the trolls: http://bit.ly/ak3hMP #
    • @romolini Also: #thatstoppedbeingsingingandstartedbeingscreamingatleastfiveyearsago in reply to romolini #
    • I’m at BNW Art Show w/ @allieharch @schmidtultra @amanda_nan @mikeyil @brimil. http://4sq.com/bQi8R8 #
    • Saturday

    • Still feeling slightly under the weather. Do you know what will fix that? Jumping out of a plane. Then I will be ABOVE the weather. #
    • Our band is jumping out of a plane. (@ Pennridge Airport w/ @allieharch @schmidtultra @mikeyil) http://4sq.com/8XJ8aH #
    • Old dude in front of us in line is obsessed w/the idea that one of the tandem jumpers could have a mortal foe who might sabotage his ‘chute. #
    • This is my new all-time favorite piece of rock journalism – a day w/ @LadyGaga in Berlin. Amazing. RT @MentalYoga http://bit.ly/aZxW4n #
    • All of us are sleepily chilling as the jump crew takes their lunch break. I think we’re two planes from now. #
    • Actually, delay isn’t lunch break; we are waiting for clouds to pass. Someone remarked, “Can’t they just hook the plane up to a cloud-plow?” #
    • @MattJH Lady Gaga is one of the few legitimate rock stars in the world right now. I dare you to name another one that debuted after 2000. in reply to MattJH #
    • @mikeyil Yeah, but I forgot my FlipCams ;(… Also, i am @-replying to you from about 20ft away rather than talking. in reply to mikeyil #
    • @MattJH You’re a different brand of rock snob than I. Modest Mouse aren’t rock stars; I’ve heard 1 song by them & none of their names. in reply to MattJH #
    • Dissent in the skydiving crew about @LadyGaga being a “rock star.” They all agree to her being “pop star.” Having trouble defining “rock.” #
    • Looks like the clouds might have won this battle against me throwing myself at the ground. #
    • Sunday

    • Just broke up with our landlord of 5+ years. A little sad, but this house just isn’t home anymore. #
    • @not_pele @krisis Husband is still sick as a result of being out and about three days he should have been in bed. #
    • Internet entirely down. Block party louder than any combination of amps I can play by myself. Still sick. This day, it’s not awesome. #
    • Every house-shaking thump of the bass drum from the block party PA system is another $1k that the new house is worth. #
    • Even if they had a block party this loud on our new block (of 4 houses), the PA wouldn’t get closer than the front yard (unless it was mine) #
    • Are you an X-Men fan? Reconstruct the comic’s entire run via TPB w/Amazon lists: http://amzn.to/aRP5VK (1-281)& http://amzn.to/aF3JQZ (281+) #
