What I Tweeted, 2011-06-20 Edition

June 19, 2011 by krisis

My tweets of the last week:

  • Grand opening of the @phs_gardening #popsup20 community garden sponsored by @ibx next to our office @ 1901 Market! http://twitpic.com/5b4v17 #
  • It's amazing to see not only a GREEN space right on Market St, but a functional veggie garden! One of my prouder moments as an employee ;) #
  • I think the mayor just stepped in to fix the sound system for our first speaker. Nutter 2011: live tech support. #popsup20 #
  • Neat: all of the materials in the garden are recycled/reclaimed – even some of the shrubs! #popsup20 #
  • Garden veggies are headed to awesome eateries (R2L, Square 1682, Table 31, Sampam, Barbuzzo) who donate proceeds from those dishes #popsup20 #
  • Mayor Nutter assures us all herbs grown here are "legal herbs" and then goes on a comedic pot riff, on mic, at the press conference. Oh my. #
  • @k8iedid you're going to make me break out my denim jacket and work on the routine I used to do in my front lawn. in reply to k8iedid #
  • @brimil I have to say, it is totally awesome. You have to pay us a visit on a day it's open for walking through. @phs_gardening @ibx in reply to brimil #
  • Recycling old parking meters as change donations to support the garden! That is one of the coolest ideas ever! #popsup20 #
  • Pls sign me up for all future press conferences that feature blueberry-soaked scallops & strawberry sorbet champagne. I will attend them ALL #
  • @Rammi Best-tasting press event ever. Some swank restaurants are making special dishes with ingredients from the new @ibx community garden. in reply to Rammi #
  • @MelGreiner @marykateruf @thecpmcd @socialbrown Apparently we trended for a hot second in there :) #
  • @jgibbard You have to let me know if you come by to visit it! Lots of good takeout (falafel!) around here for a lunch break. @SocialBrown in reply to jgibbard #
  • L.A. Noire is not so much a video game as it is an extremely slow choose-your-own adventure B-movie. Totally lost on me. #
  • In other news, there are few things I hate more than I hate packing. #
  • Packed for #140conf left my guitar behind. That is usually a recipe for misery, so @amanda_nan will have to be extra-amusing to compensate. #
  • @amanda_nan Any trip from 1-4 days gets about the same amount of stuff w/me. I think I'l regret not having black shoes & a blazer. Well see. in reply to amanda_nan #
  • Great App & Graphic Novel: Throwaway Adds 'Calypso' to 'Ulysses Seen'; Releases 'The Wasteland' App http://t.co/sTJDcOf via @publisherswkly #
  • @amanda_nan I didn't bring any shorts, but I don't really go out in public in shorts, so I suppose that's moot :) in reply to amanda_nan #
  • Solid perspective; no more Tracy Jordan for me RT @phillymag Sister site @g_philly takes on Tracy Morgan's anti-gay rant http://t.co/Dh5DtAJ #
  • @Not_Pele Girls needing specific development at that age doesn't alleviate boys benefiting from the opportunity. It's still discrimination. in reply to Not_Pele #
  • @amanda_nan Argh, I've been so busy this week that I didn't print new ones. Just have to use my work cards. in reply to amanda_nan #

  • @StephieMay How could he have possibly gone this long without seeing it?! It's one of those things thatls always playing on some channel. in reply to StephieMay #
  • Apparently the compasses on our phones cancel each other out when in close proximity. Oh, the circles we could have walked in… #
  • @AmyAllStar @katyabineva @gloriabell @jgibbard @bradeny @egibbard I can't wait to see you all tomorrow! We'll have our own Philly suburb. in reply to AmyAllStar #
  • @melgreiner 1st restaurant I walked into has a Foursquare special and a qr code on the menu for their own app. #

  • @not_pele Speaker dissecting flow of information in social news. Using the Urban Outfitters example of the state necklaces! #140conf #
  • Network Type Resonance > Network Size. A tightly knit network of few followers (a tribe) will disseminate info faster than wider 1. #140conf #
  • We're not defining ourselves by the tools anymore the way we did as “bloggers.” Our role transcended the tools – now we're curators #140conf #
  • I forgot the lightning pace of amazing talk after amazing talk. I have no concept of how I found time to blog my notes last year. #140conf #
  • Speaker @melissaleon shows photos of a village in Africa: mud walls, no electricity or running water…& 3G internet (faster than UK) #140conf #
  • $40k over 3yrs can make a village sustainable; 1person w/sat phone becomes an instant journalist reporting to the entire world. #140conf #
  • Total goosebumps from that one. Trying to restrict myself to one or two tweets every session to give a flavor of the dialog we're hearing. #
  • @gloriabell This is great stuff. I could sit through an entire day of legal ramifications of social media. in reply to gloriabell #
  • @jgibbard Down in front, third row on the left side. Taking a break the one after next. in reply to jgibbard #
  • @therealdesh No problem! I'll poke you on Friday to bring you back into the fold :) in reply to therealdesh #
  • @sarahcooley Next to, with people on either side, or in front of. in reply to sarahcooley #
  • Current location services are 1.0 "like IRC." Checking-in, getting "fake social bling" is meaningless, tugs on "baked in Pavlovian responses #

  • @melgreiner @shawneebrown We are now hearing from @SesameStreet (not Big Bird, but their actual SM guy!) #
  • Why run @SesameStreet A-Team sketch w/Ryan Reynolds or Grover Old Spice when 3yr olds don't care? Engaged Parents=Kids learn better #140conf #
  • For those of us that grew up w/ @SesameStreet, "you don't see Grover as a puppet or a brand icon, but as a person, & your friend." #140Conf #
  • @jacamyot I think my top two takeaways from last year's #140conf were "Dress in layers" and "extension cords = friends" ;) in reply to jacamyot #

  • Likening internet access to clean water in the 1800s, @Rasiej makes the case that the US is falling behind the world #netneutrality #140conf #
  • Friends, I'm tweeting highlights of 140 Conference, which amounts to 20-30 tweets /hr. If you unfollow, let me know so I can bring you back! #
  • And now I will witness @amanda_nan lose her mind as if we are at a Gaga concert, only @JoeTrippi isn't showing all that much skin. #
  • @nwjerseyliz That was a strange moment. Should he be here four days later? in reply to nwjerseyliz #
  • @Chelsia You can also watch the live stream! And, the videos are archive in a day or so. I rewatched so much last year. in reply to Chelsia #
  • Nigeria's new president opened a consulate in SF based on the tweet of one citizen; now flow of ideas to him is constant @JoeTrippi #140conf #

  • @AmyVernon Not just the women in the audience revolting/revolted based on the comment ;) #140Conf in reply to AmyVernon #
  • Theme of this talk: CEO of Live Person was a nerd who never got picked for a team, was inspired to grow up to be a frat nerd & chauvinist. #
  • @Morningkill Crowd in our section was abuzz decrying his ongoing sexist remarks. #140Conf in reply to Morningkill #
  • "Time Teller tells you the time, then he's gone. Clock-maker changes your culture"- paraphrasing @CoryBooker, absolutely electric @ #140Conf #

  • @140conf Loving what @TheSunQueen has to say but I think there should be a ban on video longer than 15-20secs. Defeats the purpose! #140conf #

  • @socialbrown @MelGreiner Needs context of his speech along with it, but: RT @TarahFO @tina_yip: @weave's #140conf deck: http://t.co/8KVCgvB #
  • @140conf I think it's a little offensive to have a fictional character giving this speech when we could/do have a real person w/the story. #
  • @Weave Thanks Eric! Loved your presentation and the ideas within; we're going through that brand journey right now. #140conf in reply to Weave #

  • 15yr-old student @michael_matias talking about his education w/real time media. Amazing the tools a teen now has to learn, discover #140conf #
  • What's interesting is this is an experience of ANY technologically empowered teen: a different world. Which is why they NEED access #140conf #
  • @sarahcooley I don't think that was the point. He is a real-time snapshot; part of it is assuming ubiquity of the tools is unique. #140conf in reply to sarahcooley #
  • @gregmberry Indeed I am! Deeply imbedded in the front left ;) in reply to gregmberry #
  • @sarahcooley Seems like many missed the point in favor of criticizing the presentation; where were they earlier for the sexist? ;) #140conf in reply to sarahcooley #

  • @IAmLeahNicole @MMCtweets #NotTrue http://t.co/Vi7dF26 in reply to IAmLeahNicole #
  • @matthewebel That's not entirely true, debunked a few weeks ago http://t.co/Vi7dF26 in reply to matthewebel #

  • @amanda_nan Is a zipper heart a little bit kink? #140conf in reply to amanda_nan #
