Guardians of the Galaxy & Silver Surfer Omnibus Mapping | 14th Annual Tigereyes Most-Wanted Marvel Omnibus Poll

February 22, 2026 by krisis 4 Comments

Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 2026 - Guardians of the Galaxy and Silver Surfer Omnibus Mapping - Silver Surfer (2003) #1.jpgOnce every year, thousands of Marvel collectors from around the world gather together online to watch Near Mint Condition and vote on their most-wanted omnibus titles. That time approaches – time for the Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 14th Annual Secret Ballot! This post explains every Guardians of the Galaxy & Silver Surfer omnibus map – including Thanos and Galacus! – for material that has not yet been collected comprehensively in omnibus – all of which will appear as options on the 2026 poll.

As one of the organizers of the poll, I work closely with Tigereyes and a team of Mapping Minties to be sure Marvel’s entire publishing history has been mapped, with every issue fitting somewhere into an omnibus volume to fill your oversize Marvel shelf. Then, we’ll kick off the poll on Near Mint Condition on March 22, 2026.

Things have been stalled on the Guardians of the Galaxy omnibus front for several years now – we haven’t seen a new volume since 2023! However, we have had movement on Silver Surfer’s 90s materials, with books two years in a row. That includes this year’s Silver Surfer: The Infinity Gauntlet Omnibus [AKA by Jim Starlin].

Will Marvel keep up their yearly pace on Silver Surfer? Will they ever get back to completing Guardians of the Galaxy in omnibus? And what about two very scary, very purple bad guys – Thanos and Galactus? Your votes may be the deciding factor!

Read this post and others in the series for a list of titles and omnibus mappings created by a group of the biggest collected edition enthusiasts on the internet. Every map is informed by Crushing Krisis comic guides and over a decade of polling data as explained by yours truly – keeper of the most-definitive guides to Marvel’s collected editions on the planet.

That includes my Guide to Silver Surfer, Guide to Guardians of the Galaxy, and individual guides like the Guide to Thanos, Guide to Star-Lord, Guide to Rocket Raccoon, Guide to Gamora, & Guide to Drax!

Even if you don’t own a single omnibus, you can use this post to learn about Marvel’s history of material and find great comics to read physically or digitally!

This post covers the following speculated omnibus volumes:

  • 90s Guardians of the Galaxy Omnibus Mapping
    • Guardians of the Galaxy: In the Year 3000 by Michael Gallagher (1992 – 1995) [follows Valentino, completes GotG (1990)]
    • Warlock and the Infinity Watch (1992 – 2004) [Vol. 1 of 2? could include Infinity War & Crusade minis]
  • Modern Guardians of the Galaxy Omnibus Mapping
    • Guardians of the Galaxy by Brian Bendis Vol. 2 (2013 – 2017) [could include Guardians 3000, Team-Up, of Infinity, Drax, Gamora, etc]
    • Guardians of the Galaxy: Rocket & Groot (2011 – 2025) [modern solo & duo series]
    • Guardians of the Galaxy: Star-Lord by Humphries & Zdarsky (2013 – 2017) [modern solo series]
    • EVENT: Infinity Wars (2018 – 2019) [includes Countdown, Warps, & Secret Warps]
    • Guardians of the Galaxy by Al Ewing & Donny Cates (2018 & on) [Includes Ewing’s Rocket, could also include Kelly/Lanzing]
  • Galactus Omnibus Mapping
    • Galactus The Devourer Vol. 1 (1965 – 2001)
  • Silver Surfer Omnibus Mapping
    • Silver Surfer Vol. 0 (1965 – 1968) [AKA Herald of Galactus AKA by Jack Kirby]
    • Silver Surfer by Ron Marz (1991 – 1995) [follows Starlin omni]
    • Silver Surfer by J. M. DeMatteis (1996 – 1998) [final volume of 1987 series]
    • Silver Surfer: The Modern Years (1999 – 2011) [material prior to Slott]
  • Thanos Omnibus Mapping
    • Thanos: Road to Annihilation (1993 – 2006) [fits between Crusade & Annihilation]
    • Thanos by Lemire & Cates (2016 & on)

Remember: These titles and mappings are a suggestion of how Marvel could assemble these books. They are meant to make the books easy to find and to vote for. Your vote on the poll is a vote in favor of Marvel creating a book with that title or covering that period, NOT an endorsement of a specific mapping. Maps are presented as a proof of concept and to help you build your personal reading list.

Guardians of the Galaxy Omnibus Mapping: 90s Guardians of the Galaxy

We already have the first three possible omnibuses of Guardians material in Guardians of the Galaxy: Tomorrow’s Heroes (the Silver & Bronze Age future team),  Guardians Of The Galaxy Solo Classic (Bronze Age material of the modern team), and Guardians of the Galaxy by Jim Valentino (the 90s future team). See Guide to Guardians of the Galaxy for more information.

Guardians of the Galaxy: In the Year 3000 by Michael Gallagher (1992 – 1995) [follows Valentino, completes GotG (1990)]

A vote for this book is a vote to collect the “Guardians of the Year 3000” run that finishes out Guardians of the Galaxy (1990) after the end of the Jim Valentino omnibus. This featured a team of Guardians far in the future of the Marvel Universe – effectively, Marvel’s version of Legion of Super-Heroes.

This would collect Guardians of the Galaxy (1990) #30-62 and Annual 3-4; Galactic Guardians (1994) #1-4; Thor Corps (1993) #3; New Warriors (1990) #68; and material from Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #134.

It could also optionally add later material that featured that future Guardians team, including Guardians 3000 (2014) #1-8; Korvac Saga (2015) #1-4; material from Guardians of the Galaxy (2013) #14 (“Fight for the Future”); and Guardians of Infinity (2016) #1-8.

Warlock and the Infinity Watch (1992 – 2004) [Vol. 1 of 2? could include Infinity War & Crusade minis]

Drax in Warlock and The Infinity Watch (1992) #12

Why do I have this Adam Warlock book here in a post about Guardians of the Galaxy?

Because we could fairly title this book something like “Road to Guardians of the Galaxy” or “Thanos & The Guardians of the Galaxy.” The story is dominated by Gamora and Drax well over a decade before the modern Guardians were formed and it is entirely focuses on the team guarding the Infinity Stones – themes that will feel familiar to comic fans and MCU viewers alike.

Warlock and the Infinity Watch (1992) has been collected in paperback and carved up between various Infinity Saga omnibuses, but never collected in full in one place.

A few folks have suggested that this omnibus should not collect the entire run of Warlock, but instead should simply focus on collecting Warlock’s series between the trilogy of Infinity event omnibus.

Other folks have suggested that this must be a two-book set that absorbs the context of the “Infinity Trilogy” omnibus and instead presents all three Infinity events in-line with the Warlock issues (similar to what Marvel just did with Infinity War (1992) in the Silver Surfer: The Infinity Gauntlet omnibus).

And, there are yet more folks who feel this omnibus should be two volumes of “Thanos & Warlock” that are merged with the “Thanos: Road to Annihilation (1993 – 2006) [fits between Crusade & Annihilation]” book I outline below.

Basically: everyone has an opinion on what this book could and should be!

That’s all the more reason to NOT over-map this book. Below I’ve outlined just the issues that it absolutely essentially must collect. Anything beyond that is up to your interpretation.

A vote for this book is a vote to collect all of Warlock and the Infinity Watch into an omnibus line (maybe skipping out on double-dipping).

This would collect Warlock and the Infinity Watch (1992) #1-6, 11-17, & 23-42; Silver Surfer / Warlock: Resurrection (1993) #1-4; “Blood & Thunder crossover” material (Thor (1966) #468-471, Silver Surfer (1987) #86-88, & Warlock Chronicles (1993) #6-8); Warlock (1998) #1-4;  and material from Marvel Comic Presents (1988) #108-111 (“I, Thanos”) and Cosmic Powers Unlimited (1995) #4 (“Mind Body Soul”).

Warlock and the Infinity Watch (1992) #7-10 double-dip the Infinity War Omnibus. They are not a direct crossover with Infinity War (1992) and could appear here without it.

Warlock and the Infinity Watch (1992) #18-22 are part of a direct crossover with Infinity Crusade featured in the Infinity Crusade Omnibus. If this book included those issues, that means this book would likely also collect Infinity Crusade (1993) #1-6 and Warlock Chronicles (1993) #1-5. However, a previous trade paperback of this series included the Infinity Watch issues while omitting those crossover issues.

It could also collect Warlock (2004) #1-4 (though Marvel-616 Warlock does not appear in this series); material from Marvel Comic Presents (1988) #112 (“Picnic”), Marvel Holiday Special (1991) #1992 (“Yule Memory”), and Marvel Swimsuit Special (1992) #2 (“Poker Game”); and Warlock: Rebirth (2023) #1-5 (a retro series set during the Warlock and the Infinity Watch era, most likely after issue #25).

Guardians of the Galaxy Omnibus Mapping: Modern Guardians of the Galaxy

When it comes to Modern Guardians, we have everything from their inception through 2015, and then we have a gap and one more book before our coverage trails off.

That consists of Annihilation Omnibus, Annihilation Conquest Omnibus, Guardians of the Galaxy by Abnett and Lanning, Guardians of the Galaxy by Brian Michael Bendis Vol. 1, and [All-New] Guardians of the Galaxy by Gerry Duggan. See Guide to Guardians of the Galaxy for more information.

What’s left? Let’s take a look.

Guardians of the Galaxy by Brian Bendis Vol. 2 (2013 – 2017) [could include Guardians 3000, Team-Up, of Infinity, Drax, Gamora, etc]

This book was announced, delayed, and then seemingly disappeared from Marvel’s release schedule. A similarly delayed book, Captain Marvel by Kelly Thompson Vol. 2, was resolicited for this June as Captain Marvel: Highest, Furthest, Fastest with expanded contents.

That might be a good thing for this book, and it is why Omar made the personal call that we should include it for voting this year.

The originally announced contents of this book were brief – just the 19 issues of Guardians of the Galaxy (2015) and a Free Comic Book Day story. Nothing about the run is particularly notable. The beginning of it features Star Lord separated from his team, and the back half of it mostly is a series of standalone tie-in issues to Civil War II, which found the Guardians stuck on Earth.

What is interesting is there is A LOT of other Guardians material from this period that risk going uncollected in omnibus. And, obviously we could easily fit another 10-30 issues of that into this book and re-title it with something other than Bendis’s name, just like Marvel did when they added 16 more issues to that Captain Marvel omnibus.

The added material comes in two halves – material from before Secret Wars (2015) which was a companion to the prior volume, and mini-series that ran alongside and after this brief Bendis run.

A vote for this book is at minimum a vote to get this Bendis material back on the release schedule, but it can also be a vote to expand that map in every direction.

This would collect Guardians of the Galaxy (2015) #1-19 & Free Comic Book Day 2016 (Civil War II) #1 (A story)

Since that is so short, there’s a lot of other things this could collect rather than moving them to a Companion book!

From prior to Secret Wars (2015), this book could begin with some or all of Guardians of the Galaxy: Infinite Comic (2013) #1-4; Guardians 3000 (2014) #1-8; Korvac Saga (2015) #1-4 (which continues from Guardians 3000); Guardians Team-Up (2015) #3-10; Guardians of the Galaxy: Best Story Ever (2015) #1.

Also, it could begin with the entirety of the “Black Vortex” crossover, not included in the prior volume (Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: The Black Vortex (2015) Alpha, Guardians of the Galaxy (2013) #24, Legendary Star-Lord (2014) #9, All-New X-Men (2012) #38-39, Guardians Team-Up (2015) #3, Guardians of the Galaxy (2013) #25, Nova (2013) #28, Legendary Star-Lord (2014) #10, Cyclops (2014) #12, Captain Marvel (2014) #14, Legendary Star-Lord (2014) #11, and Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: The Black Vortex (2015) Omega #1).

Then, from after Secret Wars (2015), it could include material parallel to the run of Guardians of the Galaxy (2015), including some or all of Guardians of Infinity (2015) #1-8; Drax (2015) #1-11; Gamora (2016) #1-5; Guardians of the Galaxy: Child Life (2016) #1; Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Infinite Comic (2016) #1-10; Guardians of the Galaxy: Hi-Tech Heroes (2017) #1; Guardians of the Galaxy: Ozone Heroes (2017) #1; Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout (2017) #1; Guardians of the Galaxy: Dream On (2017) #1; Guardians of the Galaxy: Mother Entropy (2017) #1-5; and material from Guardians of the Galaxy (2013) #14 (“Fight for the Future”), Guardians of the Galaxy: Galaxy’s Most Wanted (2014) #1, and Avengers: No More Bullying (2015) #1 (“Quotient”).

Guardians of the Galaxy: Rocket & Groot (2011 – 2025) [modern solo & duo series]

Rocket & Groot’s classic solo material is already fully collected in Guardians of the Galaxy Solo Classic Omnibus. But, between the two of them they have a consderable amount of modern material – both alone and together.

That includes two series by Skottie Young plus material by Abnett & Lanning, Matt Rosenberg, Al Ewing, and Christopher Hastings! See Guide to Rocket Raccoon for more details.

A vote for this is a vote to collect all of Rocket & Groot’s modern solo & duo adventures into a one big book.

This would collect Annihilators (2011) #1-4 (back-ups); Annihilators Earthfall (2011) #1-4 (back-ups); Rocket Raccoon (2014) #1-11; Free Comic Book Day 2014 (Rocket Raccoon) #1; Groot (2015) #1-6; Rocket Raccoon and Groot (2016) #1-10; Rocket Raccoon (2016) #1-5; Rocket (2017) #1-6; I Am Groot (2017) #1-5; Strange Tales: Rocket Raccoon Infinity Comic (2022) #1; Groot (2023) #1-4; Li’l Rocket Infinity Comic (2023) #1-6; I Am Groot Infinity Comic (2023) #1-6; Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon (2025) #1; and material from All-New, All-Different Point One (2015) #1 (Trick or Treat or Shot by a Big Gun”).

Guardians of the Galaxy: Star-Lord by Humphries & Zdarsky (2013 – 2017) [modern solo series]

There’s two reasons this book doesn’t start with Star-Lord’s 1970s and 80s Earth-791 material.

First, that material is explicitly not in canon. And, second, it has already been completely collected in Guardians of the Galaxy Solo Classic Omnibus – so there’s no point repeating it here. See Guide to Star-Lord for more details.

However, to Star-Lord’s post-Marvel Now solo material we could sneak in six more issues as a prologue – Thanos (2003) #7-12 and Annihilation: Conquest – Starlord (2007) #1-4, which Marvel has previously collected under the banner “Saga of Peter Quill.”

A vote for this book is a vote for all of Star-Lord’s post-2000 solo material to be collected in a single omnibus.

This would collect Guardians of the Galaxy (2013) #0.1; Star-Lord (2015) #1-5; Legendary Star-Lord (2014) #1-12; Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde (2015) #1-3; Star-Lord (2015) #6-8; Star-Lord (2016) #1-6 & Annual 1.

Could also include earlier Star-Lord solo material from Thanos (2003) #7-12; Annihilation: Conquest – Starlord (2007) #1-4.

[All-New] Guardians of the Galaxy by Gerry Duggan fits here as a lead-up to Infinity Wars. See Guide to Guardians of the Galaxy for more information.

Infinity Countdown (2018) #1EVENT: Infinity Wars (2018 – 2019) [includes Countdown, Warps, & Secret Warps]

The Guardians of the Galaxy by Gerry Duggan Omnibus really only collects half of a run. The story abruptly stops at the end of issue #150.

That’s because Duggan’s run continues directly into Infinity Countdown (2018) and then into Infinity Wars (2018), a rare modern Marvel Event without an omnibus!

A vote for this book is a vote for a comprehensive collection of the Infinity Wars event, including all of its Infinity Warps character mashups.

First, this would collect 17 issues of the Infinity Countdown prologue from Infinity Countdown Prime (2018) #1; Infinity Countdown (2018) #1-5; Infinity Countdown: Adam Warlock (2018) #1; Infinity Countdown: Black Widow (2018) #1; Infinity Countdown: Captain Marvel (2018) #1; Infinity Countdown: Champions (2018) #1-2; Infinity Countdown: Daredevil (2018) #1; Darkhawk (1991) #51; Infinity Countdown: Darkhawk (2018) #1-4

Then, it would collect the 21 issues of Infinity Wars and its tie-ins from Doctor Strange (2018) #3; Infinity Wars Prime (2018) #1; Infinity Wars (2018) #1-6; Thanos Legacy (2018) #1; Asgardians of the Galaxy (2018) #1-5; Infinity Wars: Sleepwalker (2018) #1-4; Infinity Wars: Fallen Guardian (2018) #1; and Infinity Wars: Infinity (2019) #1.

To that it would add 12 issues of initial “Warps””character mash-up mini-series and one-shots, including Infinity Warps: Infinity Warps (2018) #1-2; Infinity Warps: Arachknight (2018) #1-2; Infinity Warps: Ghost Panther (2018) #1-2; Infinity Warps: Iron Hammer (2018) #1-2; Infinity Warps: Soldier Supreme (2018) #1-2; Infinity Warps: Weapon Hex (2018) #1-2.

Then, we’d continue to a later 6 issues of “Secret Warps” annuals revisiting these characters, including: Secret Warps: Soldier Supreme Annual (2019) #1, Secret Warps: Weapon Hex Annual (2019) #1; Secret Warps: Ghost Panther Annual (2019) #1; Secret Warps: Arachknight Annual (2019) #1; Secret Warps: Iron Hammer Annual (2019) #1; and material from Free Comic Book Day 2018: The Amazing Spider-Man / Guardians of the Galaxy (2018) #1.

And, finally, if Marvel was feeling generous, could also include the epilogue: Wolverine: Infinity Watch (2019) #1-5.

Guardians of the Galaxy by Al Ewing & Donny Cates (2018 & on) [Includes Ewing’s Rocket, could also include Kelly/Lanzing]

Guardians of the Galaxy (2019) #4

Guardians of the Galaxy has had three solid runs since the end of Infinity Wars, but they’ve all been slightly too brief for their own omnibus.

You might be of the opinion that there’s no way Marvel would burn off Donny Cates or Al Ewing material in an omnibus with another creator. Given how slim the Hulk by Cates & Ottley omnibus is, you’re probably right!

But, this is a titles poll first, and as a titles poll it’s in our best interest not to split the vote too much between books just because we’re being sanctimonious about mapping.

A vote for this book is a vote for some post-Bendis, Post-Duggan Guardians omnibuses… and you can believe it would yield any number of books!

This would collect Donny Cates’s Guardians of the Galaxy (2019) #1-12 & Annual 1.

To that, it could also add some or all of (by Cates) Silver Surfer: Black (2019) #1-5; Thanos Legacy (2018) #1 (A-story). Both were collected in his Marvel Universe by Donny Cates Vol. 1 Omnibus, but they are specifically relevant to this run.

To that it could add some or all of (not by Cates) Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout (2017) #1, Guardians of the Galaxy: Dream On (2017) #1, Guardians of the Galaxy, Mother Entropy (2017) #1-5, Fantastic Four: The Prodigal Sun (2019) #1, Silver Surfer: The Prodigal Sun (2019) #1, and Guardians of the Galaxy: The Prodigal Sun (2019) #1.

Then, it would continue to collect Al Ewing’s Rocket (2017) #1-6; Guardians of the Galaxy (2020) #1-18 & Annual 1/2020; Last Annihilation material (Cable: Reloaded (2021) #1, The Last Annihilation: Wiccan & Hulking (2021) #1, The Last Annihilation: Wakanda (2021) #1, & S.W.O.R.D. (2020) #6-7); Strange Tales: Rocket Raccoon Infinity Comic (2022) #1; and material from Guardians of the Galaxy (2019) Annual 1 and Incoming (2020) #1.

To that it could also add some or all of (by Ewing) Empyre (2020) #0-6 and Empyre: Aftermath Avengers (2020) #1 (set-up for “The Last Annihilation”). It could also add (not by Ewing) Guardians of the Galaxy: Bane of Blastaar (2023) #1 (also set during this period)

Finally, it could conclude with Kelly & Lanzing’s Guardians of the Galaxy (2023) #1-10 & Annual 1.

Galactus Omnibus Mapping

Galactus The Devourer Vol. 1 (1965 – 2001)

Galactus is a major force in the Marvel Universe whose appearance can signal some of their most epic stories – especially when he was used in moderation in the 60s, 70s, & 80s.

While this omnibus would certainly double-dip a significant amount of Fantastic Four material, I think there’s a wide enough breadth of appearances and stories to make this interesting to collectors and readers – especially with a comics-accurate version of The Devourer finally coming to the big screen!

A vote for this book is a vote for a relatively comprehensive collection of all of Galactus’s most-significant stories from his 1965 debut through 2001 in the style of the the Doctor Doom: The Book of Doom omnibus.

Thanks to CK commenter KingBurger and Mapping Mintie BrandXK for their help on this one!

This would collect a minimum of Fantastic Four (1961) #48-50, 74-77, 121-123, 172-175, 208-214, 242-244, & 257-262; Thor (1966) #160-162, 167-169, 225-228; Silver Surfer (1968) #1 & 4; Silver Surfer: The Ultimate Cosmic Experience (1978) #1; Dazzler (1981) #10-11; Super Villians Classic (1983) #1, material from Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars (1984) #1-12; Silver Surfer (1987) #1-10, 17-18; Silver Surfer (1988) #1-2; Excalibur (1988) #61; Galactus: The Devourer (1999) #1-6; and Fantastic Four: World’s Greatest Comic Magazine (2001) #10-12.

Silver Surfer Omnibus Mapping

Marvel is advancing Silver Surfer’s omnibus line in 2026 with the release Silver Surfer: The Infinity Gauntlet – effectively, a “by Jim Starlin” omnibus. This not only is a third sequential Silver Surfer omnibus collecting from his debut forward, but it also answers a lot of the mapping ambiguity that we’ve struggled with over the past few years of the poll.

Specifically, it answers the question if Silver Surfer’s omni line would double-dip material from the Infinity War and Infinity Crusade omnibuses (YES!) and if it would generally try to map based on the big-name writers on his ongoing series (ALSO YES!). See Guide to Silver Surfer for how this material has already been collected in Epic Collection.

That leaves us with what looks like just four omnis left to completely cover Surfer’s material through Dan Slott’s run, though one of those is not on the poll due to some remaining mapping ambiguity. But… we’ve also snuck in one more omnibus for good measure.

Silver Surfer Vol. 0 (1965 – 1968) [AKA Herald of Galactus AKA by Jack Kirby]

Let’s be clear: this would be a slim, double-dipping omnibus that exists purely to get all of Surfer’s earliest Silver Age appearances into one place even though they are all already in omnibus!

A vote for this book is a vote mirror Silver Surfer Epic Collection Volume 1 to collect all of his major early appearances – and, there’s no extra material to squeeze in here! What’s in the Epic is exactly what he appeared in prior to his solo material. We could include some whole issues rather than using excerpts, but even then this would still be under 500 pages.

One idea to expand this would be to simply rename it “Silver Surfer & Galactus” and use it to collect all of Galactus’s earliest appearances, which mostly includes this material.

Or… if Marvel really wanted to gives fans an incentive to buy this, they could finally secure the rights to reprint the non-continuity The Silver Surfer (1978): The Ultimate Cosmic Experience OGN – a longtime holy grail for fans.

This would collect Fantastic Four (1961) #48-50, 55-61, Tales to Astonish (1959) #92-93, Fantastic Four (1961) Annual 5 (3rd story), and Fantastic Four (1961) #72, & 74-77.

It could also add The Silver Surfer (1978): The Ultimate Cosmic Experience OGN by Stan Lee & Jack Kirby, if Marvel could acquire the rights.

The Silver Surfer Vol. 1, Silver Surfer: Return to the Spaceways, and Silver Surfer: The Infinity Gauntlet all fit here. See Guide to Silver Surfer for more information.

Silver Surfer by Ron Marz (1991 – 1995) [follows Starlin omni]

After Jim Starlin moved on from Silver Surfer (1987) to focus on his Infinity Trilogy, Ron Marz took over the title for over fifty issues! If we include crossovers and OGNs, that would be 80 issues of material – two omnibuses worth!

That makes an amount of sense, since there’s a 20-issue gap of issues from Silver Surfer (1987) #103-122 between the end of Marz’s material and the beginning of DeMatteis (plus other supporting issues released in that period.

A vote for this book is to begin to comprehensively collect the period of Silver Surfer (1987) written by Ron Marz.

This book would begin to collect Silver Surfer (1987) #67-102 & Annuals 5-7. If it broke across two volumes, it would continue to collect Silver Surfer (1987) #103-122 (not written by Marz).

To match Epic Collection mapping, it would also include “Return of the Defenders” crossover material (Incredible Hulk (1968) Annual 18, Namor The Sub-Mariner (1990) Annual 2, Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme (1988) Annual 2), Marvel Graphic Novel (1982) #71 – Silver Surfer: Homecoming (1991), Silver Surfer/Warlock: Resurrection (1993) #1-4, Secret Defenders (1993) #9-10 (and maybe #11-14), Blood & Thunder crossover issues (Thor (1966) #468-471, Warlock Chronicles (1993) #6-8, Warlock & The Infinity Watch (1992) #23-25), and likely material from Starmasters (1995) #1-3 and Cosmic Powers Unlimited (1995) #1-6.

If this book has Marz’s name in the title, it could likely also collect Silver Surfer: Dangerous Artifacts (1996) One-Shot, which fits just after this run even though it was published later. The same is true for retcon series Silver Surfer Rebirth (2022) #1-5 and Silver Surfer Rebirth: Legacy (2023) #1-5, both by Marz and both set during this run.

Silver Surfer by J. M. DeMatteis (1996 – 1998) [final volume of 1987 series]

There is just no way to be sure exactly how many omnis we’d need to get past that massive chunk of Ron Marz material to what comes after, so we have not fully mapped this series into omnibus for the poll.

However, it’s pretty obvious what the final book covering the 1987 series would be, because J. M. DeMatteis wrote from issue #123 to the end of the series (with a final issue, #146, by Tom DeFalco). That makes for a perfect mid-sized omnibus, and DeMatteis has emerged as a hot seller of oversized collections of the past few years.

A vote for this book is a vote to add another J. M. DeMatteis collected edition to your oversize shelf, and to conclude Silver Surfer (1987) – possibly even before the prior volumes reach this point.

This would collect Silver Surfer (1987) #123-146, #-1, #1/2, Annual ’97, & Silver Surfer / Thor Annual ’98.

Based on the Epic Collections, it would also likely collect Silver Surfer Ashcan (1995) #1, X-Men Unlimited (1993) #13, Spider-Man Team-Up (1995) #2, and material from Marvel Holiday Special 1996.

It might also collect material from Star Masters (1995) #1-3 and Cosmic Powers Unlimited (1995) #1-6. And, finally, the Epic Collection line continued to Galactus the Devourer (1999) #1-6 and Silver Surfer: Loftier Than Mortals (1999) #1-2 – though neither are by DeMatteis.

Silver Surfer: The Modern Years (1999 – 2011) [material prior to Slott]

Silver Surfer wasn’t an especially prominent solo in comics in the 2000s, although he did appear with his old Defenders teammates in a few series, factored into the Annihilation event, and was part of the Annihilators that briefly supplants the Guardians of the Galaxy. Along the way, he had a string of short-lived series. One of them, Silver Surfer (2003), existed right on the cusp of Marvel entertaining their “trade era” of collecting everything, so eight of its issues have never been collected!

That gives us a solid omnibus of material to get from the end of Surfer’s 1987 series to his Dan Slott, Mike Allred, & Laura Allred series during Marvel Now – already collected in omnibus!

A vote for this book is to collect all of Surfer’s 00s-era series into a single omnibus (with the exception of Annihilation: Silver Surfer (2006), which may not make much sense outside of the context of Annihilation).

This book would collect Galactus the Devourer (1999) #1-6; Silver Surfer: Loftier Than Mortals (1999) #1-2; Silver Surfer (2003) #1-14; Silver Surfer: Requiem (2007) #1-4; Silver Surfer: In Thy Name (2008) #1-4; Silver Surfer (2011) #1-5; Captain Universe/Silver Surfer (2006) #1; Stan Lee Meets Silver Surfer (2007) #1.

Both Galactus the Devourer (1999) and Silver Surfer: Loftier Than Mortals (1999) could be collected at the end of omnibuses covering his 1987 series, as that is the convention of the Epic Collections.

It is possible this could also also collect: Annihilation: Silver Surfer (2006) #1-4 and other Annihilation/Annihilators content specific to Surfer.

Silver Surfer (2014) & (2016) are collected in full in the Silver Surfer by Slott & Allred omnibus. Surfer has had more than 30 issues since then, but 10 of them were retcon series that fit into earlier continuity, and another three were one-shots that were part of mini-events. We just don’t have enough material yet to speculate on what a next omnibus could look like.

Thanos Omnibus Mapping

Thanos: Road to Annihilation (1993 – 2006) [fits between Crusade & Annihilation]

Thanos is very well collected through the mid-90s, because all of his appearances were essentially under the pen of Jim Starlin in Warlock, Captain Marvel, and the Infinity Trilogy.

However, to track him from there to his role in the mid-00s space saga we’d hit a long run of inconsistently-collected issues – including both guest spots and his own series. See Guide to Thanos for more details.

A vote for this book is a vote to get all of that material onto your bookshelf in a single omnibus!

If we picked up directly after the Infinity Trilogy, this would begin with an unlikely team-up in Secret Defenders (1993) #11-13. From there, it could include Quasar (1989) #59, Cosmic Powers (1994) #1-6, Cosmic Powers Unlimited (1995) #1, material from Ka-Zar (1997) Annual ’97 and #6-11, X-Man/Incredible Hulk Annual 1998, Thor (1998) #21-25 & Annual 2000, and Captain Marvel (1999) #17-19.

Those are all meaty appearances that skip past brief cameos. After that, we get to the heavy-hitting stuff – Infinity Abyss (2002) #1-6 and Thanos (2003) #1-12 (plus She-Hulk (2005) #12-13).

That’s all of Thanos’s significant material from 1993 to 2006! You could argue with my map a bit (especially due to revelations in Infinity Abyss), but I think the core of Cosmic Powers, Infinity Abyss, and Thanos (2003) is what you’re really voting for here.

To that we would add the non-Thanos contents of the “Road to Annihilation” trades, which would add Sensational She-Hulk (1989) #44-46; Warlock (1998) #1-4; Captain Marvel (2000) #4-6 & 15-16; She-Hulk (2004) #7-8. Marvel Monsters: Monsters on the Prowl (2005) #1; and Nick Fury’s Howling Commandos (2005) #1-6 and #1 Director’s Cut.

Also, we could add remainder of Cosmic Powers Unlimited (1995) #2-5 (which otherwise might not be collected all in one place) and the otherwise stranded Bug (1998) #1 (& Bug’s Brain Ticklers).

Thanos by Lemire & Cates (2016 & on)

Jeff Lemire wrote an intriguing run on Thanos (2016) #1-12 in the wake of Civil War II before Donny Cates took over and turned it into a blockbuster by introducing Cosmic Ghost Rider. See Guide to Thanos for more details.

Clearly 12 issues isn’t really enough for an omnibus. On one hand, we could reach back for some Thanos material from Marvel Now. On the other hand, we could just collect the rest of the Donny Cates portion of this series to expand his entire tiny 312 page omnibus – something Marvel has been more willing to do in recent years!

Or, we could do both! But, what this probably won’t do is collect any of the contents of the nearly 1000-page “Thanos: The Infinity Saga” by Jim Starlin collecting Starlin’s series from 2014 to 2019.

But, what you are primarily voting to collect here is that Lemire material, which has never been recollected in oversize format.

This could collect Thanos Rising (2014) #1-5 (Jason Aaron’s origin), Thanos (2019) #1-6 (released later, but exploring his adoption of Gamora), Thanos: A God Up There Listening (Infinite) (2014) #1-6, Thanos Annual (2014) #1 (also in the Starlin omnibus), Thanos (2016) #1-12 (by Jeff Lemire), and then repeat the contents of the Donny Cates omnibus with Thanos (2016) #13-18 & Annual; Cosmic Ghost Rider (2018) #1-5, and Thanos Legacy (2018) #1. It could add Black Order (2018) #1-5, but he does not appear there alongside his generals.

Unfortunately, it would be tricky to collect past that since it involves a lot of Thanos in Infinity Wars and Eternals, but his next material is Thor (2020) #27-35, Thanos: Death Notes (2022) #1, Thanos (2023) #1-4 and Thanos (2024) Annual 1

Hi Krisis. Just wanted to let you know that Guardians Team-Up (2015) 1-2 is already collected in Guardians of the Galaxy by Brian Micheal Bendis Omnibus Vol. 1. Thanks.

Ah, I had forgotten he wrote those first two issues! Thank you for the reminder.

Hi Krisis. Would it be a good idea to have the “Black Vortex” crossover in a Star-Lord omnibus. My reasoning is that the Black Vortex alpha and omega issues were written by Sam Humphries, who was also writing the Star-Lord ongoing at the time. Plus, the Black Vortex itself first appears in Legendary Star-Lord (2014) #5. Thanks.

I acknowledge the unlikeliness of this comment, but a properly mapped Warlock and the Infinity Watch would include Silver Surfer/Rune
