X-Men Solo Omnibus Mapping: Bishop Omnibus Mapping
X-Men Solo: Bishop (1991 – 2001)
A vote for this book is a vote for a single volume including Bishop’s introduction from Uncanny X-Men (1963), his string of three solo mini-series, his 1999 ongoing series, and then his duo series with Gambit.
This would collect a minimum of Uncanny X-Men (1963) #282-285 & 287-293, X-Men (1991) #8, Bishop (1994) #1-4, XSE (1996) #1-4, X-Men Unlimited (1993) #13, Team X 2000 (1999) #1, Bishop: Xavier Security Enforcer (1998) #1-3, Bishop: The Last X-Man (1999) #1-16, Gambit & Bishop Alpha (2001) #1, and Gambit & Bishop: Sons of the Atom (2001) #1-6 – plus other key material from Uncanny X-Men and X-Men (especially heading into and out of Age of Apocalypse and Onslaught).
X-Men Solo: Bishop by David Hine (2004 – 2006) [District X, Civil War, et al]
This would cover key material from Bishop’s second decade, prior to his genocidal turn in the wake of Messiah Complex. It would track Bishop into and out of his “Private Investigator” phase and also unites David Hine’s X-Men material.
A vote for this book is a vote to collect a minimum of New X-Men (2001) #140-141, X-Men Unlimited (2004) #2 (a pilot for District X), District X (2004) #1-14, Mutopia X (2005) #1-5, House of M: Day After (2006) #1, X-Men: 198 (2006) #1-3, and Civil War: X-Men (2006) #1-4.
This could also collect some of Bishop’s appearances in Claremont’s run on Uncanny X-Men (1963) #450-474, but they have a much more heroic tone.
X-Men Solo Omnibus Mapping: Cable Omnibus Mapping
Cable, The Askani Son: The Early Years (1988 – 1999) [Adventures of Cyclops & Phoenix et al]
This is effectively a “Cable: Pre-History” omnibus that collects all of the material that fits prior to his debut in New Mutants (1983) #87.
First, this would collect material from Cable’s childhood from Uncanny X-Men (1963) #201, subplot pages (1 effective issue) from X-Factor (1986) showing the developments of Nathan’s powers and abduction in #65-68, X-Men: Phoenix (1999) #1-3, Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix (1994) #1-4, Askani’son (1996) #1-4, and X-Men: Books of Askani (1995) #1.
Then, it could optionally continue to collect some abandoned material that fits prior to Cables run in X-Force – namely, Wolverine/Cable (1999) OGN and Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #90-97. Plus, we could add Cable (1993) #-1, which fits after that OGN.
I’d argue it also makes sense to collect any of his flashback Wildpack material, so it should also include Cable: Blood & Metal (1992) #1-2 and X-Force (1991) #8.
Cable Vol. 1 by Nicieza & Loeb (1993 – 1996) [re-collects Cable from X-Force Vol. 1-2]
There are two ways to think about this omnibus.
The first is that it is simply a Cable-only double-dip of all of his material from the first two X-Force omnibuses volumes.
The second is that this is one third of collecting all of Cable (1993) in omnibus prior to its changeover to Soldier X (2002). In that case, this would want to stretch slightly farther than just double-dipping the X-Force omnibuses.
This would collect a minimum of X-Force (1991) #1 & 8, Cable: Blood & Metal (1992) #1-2, Cable (1993) #1-20, Wolverine (1988) #85, and X-Man (1995) #14.
Or, it could push farther into Jeph Loeb’s material if you wanted to see this series knocked out in three volumes. Then, it would collect, X-Force (1991) #1 & 8, Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #90-97, Cable: Blood & Metal (1992) #1-2, Cable (1993) #1-31, Wolverine (1988) #85, X-Man (1995) #14, and X-Force/Cable Annual 1995.
Cable Vol. 2 by Jeph Loeb (1996 – 1998)
Similar to the previous volume, this could be one of two things – either a collection of all of Jeph Loeb’s run on cable, or a collection of the second third of Cable – which still includes nearly 20 issues worth of Loeb’s writing. Thus, it could have the same title either way.
This would collect Cable (1993) #21-50 & -1, X-Force/Cable Annual 1995, X-Man (1995) #18-19 & 30, Incredible Hulk (1968) #444, Cable/X-Force Annual 1996, and X-Force/Cable Annual 1997.
Or, if you prefer to think of this of Volume 2 of 3 collecting this entire series, it would collect Cable (1993) #32-58, X-Man (1995) #30, Incredible Hulk (1968) #444, Cable/X-Force Annual 1996, X-Force/Cable Annual 1997, Cable & Machine Man Annual 1998, Machine Man & Bastion Annual 1998.
Cable Vol. 3 by Joe Casey (1998 – 2000)
Finally, this volume could either be just a collection of Joe Casey’s run… which leaves us with a fourth and final volume to collect, or it could collect everything up until the start of the Soldier X oversize hardcover.
This would collect Collects Cable (1993) #51-71 & Annual 1999; Cable & Machine Man Annual 1998; Machine Man & Bastion Annual 1998; Wolverine/Cable: Guts and Glory (1999) OGN; and X-Men (1995) #46-47.
However, if you prefer to think of this as Volume 3 collecting the remainder of the series up until the Soldier X hardcover, this would collects Cable (1993) #59-96 & Annual 1999, Wolverine/Cable (1999) OGN, X-Men (1995) #46-47, and Dream’s End (Uncanny X-Men (1963) #388, & Bishop the Last X-Man (1999) #16, X-Men (1991) #108). That still collects a hunk of Joe Casey, so the title is not inaccurate.
Cable by Duane Swierczynski (2008 – 2010) [includes Messiah War]
This would be an omnibus combining the contents of a pair of trades recollecting Duane Swierczynski’s run on Cable (2008), which arose as an epilogue and sequel to Messiah Complex and concluded as a prologue to Second Coming.
This would collect Cable (2008) #1-24, King-Size Cable (2008) #1, X-Men: The Times & Life Of Lucas Bishop #1-3, and X-Men: Future History – The Messiah War Sourcebook, X-Force/Cable: Messiah War #1, X-Force (2008) #14-16, X-Men: Hope (2010) #1, and Deadpool & Cable #25 (but likely not issue #26, which is an epilogue to Second Coming).
X-Force & Domino by Ed Brisson & Gail Simone (2018) [includes Extermination, X-Force (2018), & Simone’s Domino]
It’s a little difficult to decide how to resolve the puzzle of collecting the later period of ResurrXion. A lot of that has to do with Domino’s 15 issues by Gail Simone in a period where she was appearing in both Weapon X and X-Force. However, since the Weapon X book is longer and she was the actual leader of X-Force, her issues make more sense here.
Even though Extermination (2018) is mostly an event to end the story of All-New X-Men, we need it here because it’s by Ed Brisson and it also kicks off his X-Force.
If you argued that this should include all of Cable’s material from this period before he is replaced teen Cable in Extermination (2018), I’d completely agree with you – especially since Brisson wrote the first arc! We’ll almost certainly revise the title next year.
This would collect Extermination (2018) #1-5, X-Force (2018) #1-10, Domino (2018) #1-10 & Annual 1, Domino: Hotshots (2019) #1-5.
This could also add Cable (2017) #1-5 & 150-159, Cable/Deadpool Annual (2018) #1, X-Men: The Exterminated (2018) #1, and material from Uncanny X-Men (2018) Annual 1 and Merry X-Men Holiday Special (2018) #1.
X-Men Solo Omnibus Mapping: Gambit & Rogue Omnibus Mapping
X-Men Solo: Gambit Vol. 1 (1990 & on)
This would begin to collect Uncanny X-Men (1964) #266-267, the X-Men/Brood story (X-Men (1991) #8, Ghost Rider (1990) #26, X-Men (1991) #9, & Ghost Rider (1990) #27), Marc Spector: Moon Knight (1989) #52-53, X-Men (1991) #24, Nomad (1992) #16, Gambit (1993) #1-4, Web of Spider-Man (1985) #113, Rogue (1995) #1-4, X-Men (1991) #33 & 38, Wolverine/Gambit: Victims (1995) #1-4, Ghost Rider (1990) #67-68, Uncanny X-Men (1963) #348-350, X-Men Unlimited (1993) #18, Spider-Man Team-Up (1995) #5, Gambit (1997) #1-4, X-Men (1991) #81, material from Contest Of Champions II (1999) #3-5, and Gambit (1999) #0.5, 1-25, Annual 1999, Annual 2000, & Gambit Cyber Comic, Gambit & Bishop Alpha (2001) #1, & Gambit & Bishop: Sons of The Atom (2001) #1-6.
X-Men Solo: Rogue – The Early Years (1981 & on) [major stories through her 2005 series]
This would begin to collect Classic X-Men (1986) #44 (backup), Marvel Fanfare (1982) #60 (2nd story), Marvel Super-Heroes (1990) #11 (3rd story), Avengers (1963) Annual 10, Uncanny X-Men (1963) #158, [ROM (1979) #31-32 – possible non-ROM scenes may be excerpted?], Dazzler (1981) #22-24 & 28, Uncanny X-Men (1963) #171 (and material from #170) & Uncanny X-Men (1963) #172-173, 182, & 185 New Mutants (1983) #24-25, Marvel Super-Heroes (1990) #2 (2nd story), Marvel Fanfare (1982) #33, Uncanny X-Men (1963) #214, Mephisto Vs. … (1987) #3 (and material from #4), Marvel Fanfare (1982) #38 (2nd story), Uncanny X-Men (1963) #235-238, 246-247, 269, 274-275, X-Men (1991) #24, Uncanny X-Men (1981) #304, Gambit (1993) #1-4, X-Men Unlimited (1993) #4, Rogue (1995) #1-4, X-Men (1991) #45, etc, Uncanny X-Men (1981) #350 (and material from #347-349), Rogue (2001) #1-4, Rogue (2004) #1-12
X-Men Solo: Rogue & Gambit, Modern Omnibus Vol. 1 (2001 & on) [various solos/duo titles from both]
We left the title of this loose so you could use your imagination!
This would obviously include a core of Rogue (2001) #1-4, Rogue (2004) #1-12, and Gambit (2004) #1-12. That’s all previously not omnibused, and it would be a solid accompaniment to their appearances in the X-Treme X-Men omnibus.
That’s already 28 issues! This first volume could end there.
The question is what it would collect after that. There’s some key Rogue/Gambit material during Peter Milligan’s run of X-Men (1991) that could fit into here.
This would collect Gambit (2004) #1-12 and Gambit (2012) #1-17. It could also add some other material from this period, like an arc of Milligan’s X-Men, X-Men: Origins – Gambit #1, and the Gambit & Champions From the Marvel Vault one-shot.
This would extend to Kelly Thompson’s Rogue & Gambit (2018) #1-5 Mr. & Mrs. X (2018) #1-12 (and the preceding X-Men Gold (2017) #30), and maybe even Rogue & Gambit (2023) #1-5 – which is the rare Krakoa series that doesn’t have much to do with Krakoa.
X-Men Solo Omnibus Mapping: Storm Omnibus Mapping
X-Men Solo: Storm (1975 – 2000)
We goofed on this one! It should be titled “1975 & on” since this map could very realistically extend through her mid-00s series or even X-Men: Worlds Apart (2008), or even later than that!
The challenge is that most of Storm’s major stories occur in the pages of one of the X-Men flagship titles. Of course you would want Xavier’s flashback to Storm’s youth in Cairo and early face-offs against Doctor Doom, Dracula, Emma Frost, Callisto, & The Brood, not to mention her major Morlocks stories… but, that’s a massive double-dip of just three Chris Claremont volumes!
Outside of the regular X-Men titles, this would collect complimentary materials such as X-Men Unlimited (1993) #7, Storm (1995) #1-4, Uncanny Origins (1996) #9, Ororo: Before the Storm (2005) #1-4, Storm (2006) #1-6, X-Men: Worlds Apart (2008) #1-4, and flashback material from various issues of Uncanny X-Men, Classic X-Men, X-Men and Black Panther, X-Men: The Hidden Years (1999)#5-7, material from Giant-Sized X-Men (1975) #1, Marvel Team-Up (1972) #100, Black Panther (2005)#26-27, et cetera
X-Force: Storm & Uncanny X-Force by Sam Humphries & Greg Pak (2013 – 2015) [includes Storm (2014)]
This was another one of those big-brained moments of realization as we mapped this year. Storm’s solo series has always been an odd outlier in the Marvel Now X-Men lineup. It was so good, but it’s not long enough to collect on its own and there’s not much solo material to combine it with other than the teen Cyclops solo. It often seemed like it would have to be in a Wolverine & The X-Men Companion book.
Suddenly, I realized… duh, we have these two X-Force runs that don’t really go together and Storm is the leader of one, after which she graduates to her solo series. THESE TWO SERIES GO TOGETHER.
This would collect Uncanny X-Force (2013) #1-17 and a crossover with Cable & X-Force (2012) #18-19.
It would add Greg Pak’s Storm (2014) #1-11 – which is where she heads directly after this run.
X-Men Solo Omnibus Mapping: X-Man – Nate Gray Omnibus Mapping
X-Men Solo: Nate Grey, The X-Man Vol. 1 (1995 – 1998)
X-Men Solo: Nate Grey, The X-Man Vol. 2 (1998 & on)
I have completely reviewed ALL of this material for my Guide to X-Man – Nate Grey, so I can tell you exactly what is worth collecting here down to the page!
Volume 1 would collect X-Man (1995) #-1, 1-4, material from X-Men: Omega (1995) #1, X-Man (1995) #5-12 (and a page from X-Men: Prime (1995) #1), Excalibur (1998) #95, Cable (1993) #29, X-Man (1995) #13, Cable (1993) #30, X-Man (1995) #14, Cable (1993) #31, X-Man (1995) #15-19, X-Men (1991) #56, X-Man (1995) #20-23 & Annual 1996, X-Man: All Saints Day (1997) #1, Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #420, X-Man (1995) #24-29 & -1, X-Man (1995) #30 (and a page from Cable (1993) #46), X-Man (1995) #31-33 & Annual 1997 (and a page from Daredevil (1964) #371).
Volume 2 would collect X-Man (1995) #34-41, Annual 1998 AKA X-Man/Incredible Hulk (1998), X-Man (1995) #42-46, Cable (1993) #63, X-Man (1995) #47-49, Generation X (1994) #50, X-Man #50-55, Astonishing X-Men (1999) #1-3 & Uncanny X-Men (1963) #375, X-Man (1995) #56-60, Ages of Apocalypse material (in Uncanny X-Men (1963) #377, X-Men (1991) #97, Uncanny X-Men #378, X-Men Unlimited (1993) #26, and material from Uncanny X-Men (1963) #379), and X-Man (1995) #61-70, X-Men Unlimited (1993) #31 (3rd story), and X-Man (1995) #71-75. As his next appearance (and reconstitution from nothingness), it might be worth ending this book with Dark X-Men #1-5.
X-Men: X-Men Disassembled & The Age of X-Man (2018 – 2019) [full event omni]
This would begin with collecting the weekly “X-Men Disassembled” arc that launched Uncanny X-Men (2018) and then collect the full “Age of X-Man” event that it spawned, in a very similar collection map to the original X-Men: Age of Apocalypse omnibus.
A vote for this book is a vote to collect all of the Age of X-Man in one book for the first time, including its 10-issue prelude in Uncanny X-Men (2018)
This would collect Uncanny X-Men (2018) #1-10, Age of X-Man (2019) Alpha #1 & Omega #1, The Amazing Nightcrawler (2019) #1-5, Apocalypse and the X-Tracts (2019) #1-5. The Marvelous X-Men (2019) #1-5, Nextgen (2019) #1-5, Prisoner X (2019) #1-5, and The X-Tremists (2019) #1-5.
X-Men Solo Omnibus Mapping: Other Solo X-Men Omnibuses
X-Men Solo: Domino (1991 & on)
This would primarily exist to collect Domino’s two miniseries from 1997 and 2003, her “Sex & Violence” mini with Wolverine, and her ResurrXion era solo book.
That’s a very handy 25 issue omnibus, to which we’d add a smattering of random solo stories like New X-Men (2001) Annual and A+X (2013) #10
However, we could also likely collect ALL of Domino’s pre-Krakoa comic history into a single massive volume.
This would collect New Mutants (1983) #98-100, Deadpool vs. X-Force (2014) #1-4, X-Force (1991) #8, 15, 22-24, 52-54, 73, 76, 91-92, 106 Cable: Blood and Metal (1992) #1-2, Cable (1993) #17-19, 55-56, 82-84, X-Force & Cable Annual 1995 (2nd story), Domino (1997) #1-3, Domino (2003) #1-3, New X-Men (2001) Annual 1, Cable & Deadpool (2004) #28-29 & 34 (and material from #27), Civil War: X-Men (2006) #1-4, X-Force: Sex & Violence (2010) #1-3, A+X (2013) #10, Uncanny X-Men (2016) Annual 1, Domino (2018) #1-10 & Annual 1, Domino: Hotshots (2019) #1-5, and possible excerpted material from X-Force (1991) #1-11, 13-15, 20-24, 29-30, 32-37, 39-41, 43-44, 50, 52-55, 57-62, 71-73, 82-86, 93-96, 110-115 & Annuals 1995-1996 and Cable (1993) #4, 6-8, 15, 17-29, 32-33, 36-40, 73 & Annuals 1995-1996.
X-Men Solo: Emma Frost (1980 – 2004)
Some people will assume this would simply collect Emma Frost (2003) #1-18, and I think that’s fine!
If you think of it as more of a “greatest hits” collections, then it would collect all of her major material up through the beginning of Grant Morrison’s New X-Men. That would still begin with Emma Frost (2003) #1-18, but would then press onward to Generation X (1994) #-1, X-Men Origins: Emma Frost (2010) #1, Classic X-Men (1986) #7 & 34 (back-up stories), Uncanny X-Men (1963) #129-131 & 151-152, Firestar (1986) #1-4, New Mutants (1983) #26, 40, 62, & 75, X-Men Unlimited (1993) #33 (3rd story), Uncanny X-Men (1963) #281-284, 314, & 318, Generation X (1994) #1-3, X-Force (1991) #42, Generation X (1994) #7 & Annual 1/1995, Uncanny X-Men (1963) #331, Generation X (1994) #22, 24, & 49, War of the Mutants (Generation X (1994) #50 and X-Man (1995) #50), Generation X (1994) #55 & 59, and X-Men Unlimited (1993) #34 (2nd story).
X-Men Solo: Kitty Pryde (1979 & on) [major stories through]
This would collect significant Kitty solo adventures from Uncanny X-Men (1963), Kitty Pryde & Wolverine, major stories from Excalibur, etc through Mekanix (2002) #1-6, Astonishing X-Men (2004) #1-6, X-Men: Kitty Pryde – Shadow & Flame (2005), Giant-Size Astonishing X-Men (2008) #1, and Uncanny X-Men (1963) #522
X-Men Solo: Magik (1982 & on) [major stories through her return]
We did a whole show on this! See Near Mint Condition: Map My X – Magik for potential mapping for this book.
X-Men Solo: Magneto – The Early Years (1963 & on)
This would collect Magneto’s chronological story, similar to the Book of Doom Omnibus, meaning it would include his material from the Silver Age onward as well as canonical retcon material like Magneto Testament.
X-Men Solo: Maverick (1991 – 1998)
This would collect X-Men (1991) #5-7 & 10-11 (B-stories), Wolverine (1988) #62-64, 67, 87, 163-166, & Annual 1995 (B-Story), Maverick (1997) #1, X-Men Unlimited (1993) #3, 8 & 15, and Maverick (1997) #1-12
X-Men Solo: Mutant X – Havok (1998 – 2001)
This would collect Mutant X (1998) #1-32 and Annual 1999, 2000, & 2001. It could add X-Factor (1986) #149 for context.
X-Men Solo: Mystique by Vaughan & McKeever (2003 – 2005)
This would collect a minimum of Mystique (2003) #1-24.
While there is an argument to turn this into a fuller omnibus like an “Early Years” book, her early villainous content is very different than the content in that run, as is even her subsequent mid-00s content.
If you twisted my arm, I might say this could include X-Men Unlimited (1993) #40 (2nd story), Classic X-Men (1986) #44 (2nd story), Marvel Fanfare (1982) #60 (2nd story), Ms. Marvel (1977) #16-18 & Marvel Super-Heroes (1990) #11 (3rd story), Uncanny X-Men (1963) #141-142, Avengers (1963) Annual 10, X-Factor (1986) #8-10, Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #41 (4th story), Uncanny X-Men (1963) #254-255, Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #82-87 (2nd stories), The Incredible Hulk (1968) #369, X-Men Unlimited (1993) #4, X-Factor (1986) #108-110, material from X-Factor (1986) #110-126, Sabretooth and Mystique Vol 1 (1996) #1-4, material from X-Factor (1986) #127-144, X-Men Forever (2001) #1-6, and X-Men Unlimited (1993) #48 (2nd story), which brings us to her solo series.
After her solo series, we might include X-Men (1991) #171-174, but likely not anything from Mike Carey’s run or her epilogue to Messiah Complex, which are very different stories.
However, if we took this approach, it could make sense to include some flashback and retcon material from the course of the Age of Krakoa that establishes her early history and marriage to Destiny.
X-Men Solo: Nightcrawler (1975 – 2018)
Nightcrawler has had a lengthy history in comics, but almost all of that history is in team comics! What would an omnibus of him collect, other than a trio of solo series?
This could collects key Nightcrawler issues from from Giant-Size X-Men (1975) #1 onward, especially from Uncanny X-Men (1963) and Excalibur (1988). In specific, it would include Nightcrawler (1985) #1-4, Uncanny X-Men (1963) #204, X-Men Unlimited (1993) #4 & 19, Uncanny Origins (1996) #8, Nightcrawler (2004) #1-12, X-Men: Manifest Destiny – Nightcrawler (2009 #1, X-Men Origins: Nightcrawler (2010) #1, Amazing X-Men (2014) #1-6, Nightcrawler (2014) #1-11, and more!
If you have more favorite Nightcrawler issues and runs to include, definitely comment below!
NYX by Quesada & Liu (2003 – 2008)
This would be a very brief omnibus collecting NYX (2003) #1-7 and NYX: No Way Home (2008) #1-6, since neither were collected along with X-23’s solo material. Due to the mature nature of this material, it could not be collected along with NYX (2024) #1-10.
X-Men – Age of Krakoa – X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic (2021 – 2024)
Starting from October 2021 and running through the end of the Krakoan era, Marvel ran a weekly digital comic called X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic (2021) that included some huge plot developments for its characters along the way!
Each digital issue could represent between 4-10 pages of a print comic depending on how it was laid out, so as a whole the run is absolutely omnibus-sized.
My fervent hope is that this material is collected alongside the Age of Krakoa anthology omnibus line once it reaches the period after the 2021 Hellfire Gala. However, even if it does, we’d still need this material recollected to fit alongside a bookshelf of creator-centric Krakoa collections.
This would collected X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic (2021) #1-142.
X-Men Solo Omnibus Mapping: X-Men Anti-Hero & Villain Omnibuses
X-Men Villains: Juggernaut (1965 & on) [includes Spider-Man and other appearances]
This would begin to collect Juggernaut’s major stories, which are a combination of X-Men appearances, Spider-Man face-off, and smattering of villainy in other books like Thor and Doctor Strange.
Juggernaut has enough material that we might only be able to make it through the early 90s in a first book in this series!
This would begin to collect Uncanny X-Men (1963) #12-13, 32-33, 46, Doctor Strange (1968) #182, Amazing Adventures (1970) #16, The Incredible Hulk (1968) #172, Uncanny X-Men (1963) #101-103 & 124 (material from 122), Spider-Woman (1978) #37-38, The Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #229-230 (and material from Code of Honor (1997) #3), Uncanny X-Men (1963) #183, Marvel Team-Up (1972) #150, Uncanny X-Men (1963) #194 & 217-218, Excalibur (1988) #3, Thor (1966) #411-412, Thor (1966) #429 (and material from 428), X-Force (1991) #3-4 & Spider-Man (1990) #16 (and material from X-Force #2 & 5), Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme (1988) #44, and Incredible Hulk (1968) #402-404.
Then, it might add early and mid-90s material, which could include material drawn from Deadpool: The Circle Chase (1993) #1-2, Thunderstrike (1993) #2, Venom: The Madness (1993) #1-3, X-Force (1991) #30-31, Deadpool (1994) #1-4, Uncanny X-Men (1963) #322, X-Men (1991) #42, Savage Hulk (1996) #1, Wolverine (1988) #93, et cetera.
X-Men Villains: Mister Sinister (1987 – 2019)
This is effectively a “The Sinister Early Years” omnibus collecting all of Mister Sinister’s major stories (both present day and retcon) through the start of Marvel Now at the end of 2012.
This would collect (in this reading order) Further Adventures of Cyclops & Phoenix (1996) #1-4 (and material from History of the Marvel Universe (2019) #1), Wolverine: Origin II (2014) #1-5, X-Men: Hellfire Club (2000) #3, Weapon X (2002) #14, material from X-Factor (1986) #39 & 35, Uncanny Origins (1996) #1, Classic X-Men (1986) #41-42 (back-ups), X-Factor (1986) #-1, X-Men & Spider-Man (2009) #1, material from X-Factor (1986) #38, material from Powers of X (2019) #4, X-Men Origins: Gambit (2008) #1, X-Men & Spider-Man (2009) #2, material from Uncanny X-Men (1963) #221, Inferno (Uncanny X-Men (1963) #239-241 & 243 & X-Factor (1986) #39), X-Factor (1986) #74-75, X-Men (1991) #22-23, material from Cable (1993) #6, X-Men (1991) #27 & 34, X-Factor (1986) #105 (and material from #104), material from Uncanny X-Men (2012) #4, X-Men (1991) Annual 1995, X-Men & Spider-Man (2009) #3, X-Men (1991) #51-52, Uncanny X-Men (1963) #350, Cable (1993) Annual 99, Gambit (1999) #13-15, Weapon X (2002) #28, X-Men: Colossus Bloodline (2005) #1-5, X-Men & Spider-Man (2009) #4, X-Men: Original Sin (2008) (X-Men: Original Sin (2008) #1, X-Men: Legacy (2008) #217, Wolverine: Origins (2006) #29, X-Men: Legacy (2008) #218, and Wolverine: Origins (2006) #30), Uncanny X-Men (2012) #1-3 & 14-17 (& material from #20), A+X (2012) #5
X-Men Villains: Sabretooth (1977 – 2012) [all major appearances through 2012]
This is essentially a “Book of Creed” omnibus similar to the Doom and Loki omnibus, collecting all of Sabretooth’s major stories through the start of Marvel Now at the end of 2012.
This would collect (in this reading order) X-Men Origins: Sabretooth (2009) #1, Classic X-Men (1986) #10 (2nd story), Iron Fist (1975) #14, Power-Man & Iron Fist (1978) #84, Daredevil (1964) #238, Uncanny X-Men (1963) #212-213, X-Factor (1986) #51-52, Wolverine (1988) #41-42 & 62-64, Sabretooth (1993) #1-4, X-Men Unlimited (1993) #3, X-Men (1991) #28-29, Uncanny X-Men (1963) Annual 18 & #311, X-Men (1991) #33 & 38, Wolverine (1988) #90, X-Force (1991) #45, Uncanny X-Men (1981) #326 & 328, Sabretooth: In The Red Zone (1995), X-Factor (1986) #122-123, Marvel Fanfare (1996) #6, Sabretooth & Mystique (1996) #1-4, Sabretooth: Back To Nature (1998), X-Factor (1986) #136-138, X-Men Unlimited (1993) #17, X-Factor (1986) #142, Wolverine (1988) #126-128, Gambit (1999) #8-9, Wolverine (1988) #145, Deadpool (1997) #57 & 60, Sabretooth: Mary Shelley Overdrive (2002) #1-4, X-Men Unlimited (1993) #35 & 40 (1st and 2nd stories), Weapon X (2002) #12 & 26-28, Sabretooth (2004) #1-4 [AKA Sabretooth: Open Season], Cable & Deadpool (2004) #41, Wolverine (2003) #52-55, Wolverine (2010) #310-313, Wolverine (2010) #20 & 300-304.
X-Men Villains: The Rise of Apocalypse (1996 – 2006)
This would primarily collect the 300+ pages of the trade of the same name, which included Rise of Apocalypse #1-4, Further Adventures of Cyclops & Phoenix #1-4, X-Men: Apocalypse/Dracula #1-4, Black Knight: Exodus, and Fantastic Four (1961) #19.
What else could it include? Many other X-Men comics have revisited Apocalypse’s early days in flashback, and we could excerpt all of that here. Alternately, we could push onward to his iconic early appearances in X-Factor and Wolverine: Jungle Adventure (1989) OGN.
Or, this could take the approach of collecting ALL of his major appearances. Apocalypse has less than 200 total appearances prior to the Age of Krakoa, and a lot of them are just brief panels or flashbacks to earlier events. If you assume this book would skip both “X-Cutioner’s Song” and “Age of Apocalypse” for being well-collected elsewhere, I suspect we really could get every major Apocalypse appearance collected right through his back-up stories in the X-Men Black (2018) one-shots.
What other solo X-Men and Villains do you think have enough material to warrant a solo omnibus? The rule is that their omnibus cannot only double-dip material from the X-Men flagships and one other team book.
We gave Omega Red a try, but he didn’t have enough material!
Where would Cyclops by Greg Rucka rif?
Unfortunately, that is a relatively rare abandoned series this year, unless there’s an existing book on the poll you can imagine it being a part of. Because of the only-Bendis maps of his two X-Men omnis, there’s no longer anywhere for it to go unless we mashed it into the ANAD-era All-New omnibus. Can you think of a better book for it to be in?
Godo question, kinda like an “All-New Marvel Now X-Men Solo Omnibus”: with Storm, Nightcrawler, Magneto and Cyclops mini-series from 2014-2015? A Bendis-esque Companion?
