New Comics & Collected Editions: Marvel Comics – April 26, 2023

April 23, 2023 by krisis

It’s time to take a look at what’s out from Marvel Comics this week! This post covers Marvel Comics April 26 2023 releases.

This list includes every comic and digital comic out from Marvel this week, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats. For each new release, I’ll point you to the right Crushing Comics guide.

Marvel Comics April 26 2023 Collected EditionsMidnight Suns (2022) Vol. 1 released by Marvel Comics April 26 2023

All-Out Avengers: Teachable Moments (2023 paperback, ISBN 978-1302947019 / digital)
See Guide to Avengers Flagship Titles (2010 – Present). This new “All-Out” brand for Marvel indicates an all-action series that is a non-stop five issue fight, here created by Derek Landy & Greg Land. The Landy-Land team continues to a new volume, Avengers Beyond, below.

Cosmic Ghost Rider by Donny Cates (2023 paperback, ISBN 978-1302949891 / digital)
See Guide to Ghost Rider. This paperbacks collects all of Donny Cates’s Cosmic Ghost Rider material, which is a subset of the material from the 2021 omnibus. However, there is really just one full CGR series in this collection – his first 2018 five-issue limited series. All the other material in this book are his debut in Thanos (2016) and guest-starring and team membership issues. Bottom line: This is the right buy if you’re a Cates fan or looking purely for origin material, otherwise you should buy the omnibus instead.

Deadpool & Cable Omnibus (2023 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302949921)
See Guide to Deadpool or Guide to Cable for this complete reprint of their 50-issue 2004 team-up series.

Fantastic Four by Millar & Hitch Omnibus (2023 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302949716 / digital)
See Guide to Fantastic Four. This omnibus fits directly prior to Jonathan Hickman’s run and pair of omnibuses. This run’s reputation tends to be overshadowed by Hickman, but there are some enjoyable big ideals here and I enjoy seeing Millar in his less-audacious mode when he’s not writing mature books.

Midnight Suns (2023 paperback, ISBN 978-1302947187 / digital TBA)
See Guide to Ghost Rider or Guide to Blade. This series featured a peculiar hodgepodge of a team of supernatural heroes… and Logan, with a cast of Magik, Wolverine, Blade, Spirit Rider, and Nico Minoru.

Thor Epic Collection Vol. 9: Even An Immortal Can Die (2023 paperback, ISBN 978-1302948689 / digital)
See Guide to Thor – The Odinson. This material has been covered in Masterworks and in bits and pieces across several old trades, but it has never been collected comprehensively in paperback before.

Strange, Vol. 2: The Doctor Strange of Death (2023 paperback, ISBN 978-1302946746 / digital)
See Guide to Doctor Strange. The second (and final) volume of Jed MacKay’s volume of Clea as the Sorcerer Supreme before the relaunch of Doctor Strange last month.

X-Terminators (2023 paperback, ISBN 978-1302946999 / digital)
See Guide to X-Men – The Age of Krakoa. Leah Williams takes Dazzler, Jubilee, Boom Boom, and Wolverine (X-23) on a high-action, high-comedy spin.

Read on for a rundown of Marvel Comics April 19 2023 single-issue releases, including a link to their accompanying guide pages on Crushing Comics.

Marvel Comics April 26 2023 Physical Comic ReleasesDaredevil (2022) #10 released by Marvel Comics April 26 2023

Alien (2023) #1 – Should this guide be called the “Guide to Alien” or the “Guide to Aliens”? That’s really the only think standing in the way of me finishing it in the next month. I find that I’m often disappointed by Alien comics because I’m looking for something about the greater arc of the Alien race (more like the movie Prometheus), but we tend to just get Aliens messing up some greedy humans with only one of them worth rooting for. That said, this is written by Declan Shalvey, who has good story instincts – I will probably check it out!

Avengers: Beyond (2023) #2 – See Guide to Avengers Flagship Titles (2010 – Present). I’m not quite sure what to make of this Derek Landy series draw by Greg Land and featuring The Beyonder, which directly follows All-Out Avengers (which means it happens prior to the end of Aaron’s run on Avengers from last week). Usually these Land mini-series take advantage of his speed as a penciller but have a minimal continuity impact. However, would Marvel really bring back the O.G. Beyonder without a bigger plan in place? I’m curious to find out.

Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain (2023) #3 – See Guide to Captain Britain.

Captain America: Symbol of Truth (2022) #12 – See Guide to Sam Wilson, Falcon & Captain America. I still haven’t caught up with Falcon’s side of the pair of Captain America titles, but I’ve got to do it in the next week or two if I want to read their new “Cold War” crossover which continues in this issue!

Clobberin’ Time (2023) #2 – I’ve been feeling like the Fantastic Four guide has grown a little too crowded, especially with the Thing scoring a string of mini-series in the past few years. Maybe it’s time for Aunt Petunia’s ever-loving blue eyed nephew to graduate into his own guide?

Daredevil (2022) #10 – See Guide to Daredevil. Chip Zdarsky’s run inches closer to its conclusion, though there’s a whole final arc after this issue.

Deadpool (2022) #6 – See Guide to Deadpool. I haven’t yet caught up to this new Alyssa Wong Deadpool series to understand why it’s part of the Krakoa line, but it’s on my list! Hopefully I’ll be caught up by the next issue.

Doctor Strange (2023) #2 – See Guide to Doctor Strange. Is Jed MacKay really going to write the flagship Avengers title, keep Moon Knight going, and write Doctor Strange’s ongoing? That’s some Bendis-level multi-tasking!

Guardians of the Galaxy: Bane of Blastaar (2023) #1 – See Guide to Guardians of the Galaxy for this Ralph Macchio one-shot, which appears to be set during or just after Al Ewing run on Guardians.

Hulk (2021) #14 – See Guide to Hulk – Bruce Banner. The final issue of this Hulk run! He’ll next be written by “Sexual Assault as a Plot Device” enthusiast Phillip Kennedy.

The Invincible Iron Man (2022) #5 – See Guide to Iron Man – Tony Stark. I’m not a fan of this Gerry Duggan run from the first four issues. He just doesn’t have Tony’s voice down, and in a fairly average “people want to scapegoat Tony” Iron Man plot the lack of Tony’s voice makes a big different.

Monica Rambeau: Photon (2022) #5 released by Marvel Comics April 26 2023Mary Jane & Black Cat (2022) #5 – See Guide to Black Cat for the final issue of this Jed MacKay Dark Web tie-in series. Yes, even more Jed MacKay!

Miracleman: Marvel Tales (2023) #1 – A single-issue compilation of the contents of Miracleman (2014) #1-4.

Monica Rambeau: Photon (2022) #5 – I’ve been waiting to binge this whole Eve Ewing Monica series, so now is the time! Right now some Monica Rambeau material is tracked in the Guide to Captain Marvel – Carol Danvers, but with her co-starring in the upcoming The Marvels you can expect her to graduate into her own guide later this year.

Rocket Raccoon: Marvel Tales (2023) #1 – See Guide t0 Rocket Raccoon. A single issue recollecting the classic Rocket Raccoon (1985) #1-4 by Bill Mantlo & Mike Mignola, which the new Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 film heavily references.

Sins of Sinister: Dominion (2023) #1 – See Guide to X-Men – The Age of Krakoa. This Sins of Sinister finale reveals how the future tale was connected to our reality all along, and has some major implications for the Quiet Council. Your mileage may vary, depending on what you like best about this Krakoan era. Never let it be said that Kieron Gillen doesn’t push his Sinister bullshit as far as possible.

Star Wars: Darth Vader – Black, White, & Red (2023) #1 – See Guide to Star Wars, The Expanded Universe Comics (2015 – Present) for the just-solicited Treasury Edition collection of this title. This first issue features stories by Jason Aaron, Leonard Kirk, & Romulo Fajardo Jr., Torunn Grønbekk & Klaus Janson, and Peach Momoko. This is Grønbek’s first non-Asgardian issue for Marvel, so I’m excited to see what she does!

Strange Academy: Finals (2022) #6 – See Guide to Doctor Strange. This is the final issue of the Skottie Young, Humberto Ramos, & Edgar Delgado magic school series.

Thor (2020) #33 – See Guide to Thor – The Odinson. I just caught up on this run over the weekend, and after a wobbly year from Cates in 2022 I think it is back on its A-Game in no-small part due to co-writing from Torunn Grønbekk on this current run. Every arc in this title has been about some epic change to the status quo of Asgard, and this one is no exception.

Venom: Lethal Protector II (2023) #2 – See Guide to Venom. The original 90s Spider-Man/Venom creative team of David Michelinie and Mark Bagley returns for a retcon story set in that period, which is a sequel to another series with this name released in 2022.

Wasp (2023) #4 – See Guide to Wasp – Janet van Dyne. Al Ewing and Kasia Nie bring this charming Janet duo adventure with Nadia to a close. I wish this had enough support to graduate into an ongoing series – it’s good stuff.
