Punisher Omnibus Mapping | 14th Annual Tigereyes Most-Wanted Marvel Omnibus Poll

February 21, 2026 by krisis Leave a Comment

Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 2026 - Punisher Omnibus Mapping - The Punisher (1987) #17Once every year, thousands of Marvel collectors from around the world gather together online to watch Near Mint Condition and vote on their most-wanted omnibus titles. That time approaches – time for the Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 14th Annual Secret Ballot! This post explains every Punisher omnibus map – including MAX – for material that has not yet been collected comprehensively in omnibus – all of which will appear as options on the 2026 poll.

As one of the organizers of the poll, I work closely with Tigereyes and a team of Mapping Minties to be sure Marvel’s entire publishing history has been mapped, with every issue fitting somewhere into an omnibus volume to fill your oversize Marvel shelf. Then, we’ll kick off the poll on Near Mint Condition on March 22, 2026.

Look, y’all: We’re in a Punisher crisis when it comes to collected editions. Despite him popping up in Daredevil: Born Again and being heavily rumored to be in not one but two other MCU projects this year, Marvel continues to strenuously avoid him in omnibus except for reprinting his MAX comics.

If you’ve been reading all of these posts over the past few weeks, this one is different… because I go deep on mapping Punisher in the 90s. Perhaps deeper than anyone else on the internet has ever gone, because I made a promise for last year’s poll.

More on that below!

Read this post and others in the series for a list of titles and omnibus mappings created by a group of the biggest collected edition enthusiasts on the internet. Every map is informed by Crushing Krisis comic guides and over a decade of polling data as explained by yours truly – keeper of the most-definitive guides to Marvel’s collected editions on the planet, including my Guide to Punisher.

Even if you don’t own a single omnibus, you can use this post to learn about Marvel’s history of material and find great comics to read physically or digitally!

This post covers the following speculated omnibus volumes:

  • Pre-2000 Punisher
    • Punisher Classic Vol. 1 (1987 & on) [follows Epic mapping OR integrates War Journal & War Zone]
    • The ‘Nam Vol. 2 (1990 – 1993) [could include Semper Fi]
  • Punisher from 1998 – 2012
    • Punisher: Marvel Knights (1998 – 2006) [non-Ennis material; includes missing arc from Ennis omni]
    • Marvel Knights: The Defenders of NYC (2000 – 2003 & 2018) [Marvel Knights ongoings, Double Shots minis, 20th anniversary]
    • Punisher War Journal by Matt Fraction (2007 – 2009) [fits before Remender]
    • Punisher by Greg Rucka (2011 – 2013) [follows Remender]
  • Punisher from Marvel Now to Present
    • Punisher: The Modern Years Vol. 1 (2014 & on) [begins to collect Edmonson, Cloonan, Rosenberg, Duggan, Aaron, & Grønbekk]
  • Punisher MAX
    • Punisher MAX Companion: World of Punisher MAX (2008 – 2012 (or 2024))

Remember: These titles and mappings are a suggestion of how Marvel could assemble these books. They are meant to make the books easy to find and to vote for. Your vote on the poll is a vote in favor of Marvel creating a book with that title or covering that period, NOT an endorsement of a specific mapping. Maps are presented as a proof of concept and to help you build your personal reading list.

Punisher Omnibus Mapping: Pre-2000 Punisher

In a wild turn of events, we only have one omnibus of classic Punisher material – and it doesn’t even include any Punisher comics! That’s because the Punisher: Back to the War Omnibus collects all of his early appearances prior to scoring his first mini-series in 1986. The material had previously been collected in an Essential collection. See Guide to Punisher for more details.

I can see the appeal in having collected that material in omnibus first – both because it shows Frank Castle interacting with various Marvel heroes, and also because it paints him specifically as a morally-questionable anti-hero rather than the star of his own stories.

But, it’s still wild that it’s the only pre-2000 Punisher material we have collected, especially since some of his comics were drawn by Jim Lee.

Punisher (1987) #17Punisher Classic Vol. 1 (1987 & on) [follows Epic mapping OR integrates War Journal & War Zone]

This book turned out to be one of the most controversial titles and maps on the poll last year and one of the most successful. It ranked at #16 in 2025, which was the second highest ranking a mainstream continuity Punisher book has had in the history of the poll, just behind Punisher by Greg Rucka – which climbed to #9 in 2015.

Yeah, that’s two Punisher books in the Top 20. You’re welcome.

Sorry. I’m feeling a little bit feisty about this one, because the data proves we made the right call, even if it chafed a little for folks who love Punisher (and mapping Punisher).

This was a clear instance where the data was screaming that major fans were hopelessly divided on how to split their votes between the three big Punisher ongoings of the 90s. That choice was suppressing all the rankings of all three books on the poll. Anytime that happens, the result is another X-Men or Spider-Man book eating the lunch of another popular character who simply isn’t at X-Men level.

Plus, we just don’t know how Marvel would map a Punisher omnibus line! A few years ago the idea of a line that integrates all of his titles rather than following the Epic Collection map would have seemed like a silly daydream.

Now, in the wake of Ghost Rider: Danny Ketch, X-Men: Blue & Gold, and the Krakoa Anthologies (plus adventurous and slightly unusual books like the X-Men: Messiah Trilogy and Sentry Omnibus), it’s starting to feel like Marvel is willing to get slightly more adventurous with omnibus mapping if it will create a blockbuster book that will be an easy sell to fans.

As a result, this omnibus could be one of two things – and we just won’t know which one might exist until we get it.

First, this could simply follow the Epic Collection mapping to begin collecting The Punisher (1987) ongoing. That mapping includes OGNS but it only includes Punisher War Journal (1988) and Punisher War Zone (1992) if they directly cross over with his main series. The Punisher (1987) runs for #104 issues, plus annuals and many OGNs, so that would take 3-4 omnibuses to complete.

If we take that approach, we’d need an additional three separate omnibuses to collect Punisher War Journal (1988) #1-80 and Punisher War Zone (1992) #1-41, plus their various Annuals, specials, and crossovers.

Alternately, this centralized title could actually come true with Marvel collecting all of Punisher’s material into a single omnibus line. That would mean adding in every issue of Punisher War Journal (1988) and Punisher War Zone (1992).

This would give fans an obvious incentive to buy every book in the omnibus line even if they already own the Epic Collections. It would take 6-8 total omnibuses to complete, but all of the books would have the incentive of being “the main line” of Punisher omnibus – with no books that are perceived to be off to the side or lesser than. Plus, the books could seamlessly roll into the Punisher (1995) & “Over the Edge” material afterward, which is too small for its own volume.

The challenge is that Marvel has to decide about this right away, because Punisher War Journal (1988) starts after Punisher (1987) #13 – right in the middle of what would be a first omnibus in either of these lines. There is no time to test the market with an initial volume as they did with Ghost Rider (and, even to an extent with the unnumbered Blue & Gold omnibus).

A vote for this book is a vote to get underway on collecting classic Punisher, no matter how Marvel decides to do it. But, I think you can tell which way I’m leaning. And, last year I said “if y’all can get this book into the Top 40 of the poll this year, I will map the entire line both ways” … so, here we go. We know from the Ghost Rider line that Marvel likes to stick close to the 40-issue threshold, so let’s give that a try.

Punisher Omnibus Mapping: “Epic Collection” Style Map

This map is based on the mapping of Epic Collections, which indlude Punisher (1987), OGNs, specials, and crossover material from the other ongoing series but not all of their issues.

Expand the mapping

Punisher Vol. 1: A first volume would likely collect from April 1987 to November 1989

This would collect The Punisher (1987) #1-29 & Annual 1-2, Daredevil (1964) #257, and Marvel Graphic Novel (1982) #40 – Punisher – Assassin’s Guild OGN (1988), Classic Punisher (1989) #1, Epic Graphic Novel: Punisher – Return to Big Nothing (1989), Marvel Graphic Novel (1982) #51 – Punisher: Intruder (1989).

This is just shy of three Epic Collections, which would have weighed in at 1,464 – about 150 pages past the count of the Ghost Rider books. We’ve left off Punisher (1987) #30-34 & Annual 3 and Marvel Graphic Novel (1982) #62 – The Punisher: Kingdom Gone (1990).

Punisher Vol. 2: A second volume might collect from December 1989 to November 1991

This would collect The Punisher (1987) #30-59 & Annual 3-4 (and maybe some Annual 4 crossover material), Punisher Summer Special (1991) #1, Marvel Graphic Novel (1982) #62 – The Punisher: Kingdom Gone (1990), Punisher: No Escape (1990) #1, Punisher: The Prize (1990) #1, Punisher: P.O.V. (1991) #1-4,

That’s most of Epic 4, all of Epic 5, and nearly all of Epic 6 – breaking just after the “Final Days” storyline. It’s only 35 issues, but all of those OGNs are 2x length or longer.

Punisher Vol. 3: A third volume might collect from December 1991 to June 1993.

This would collect The Punisher (1987) #60-81 & Annual 5 (and maybe some Annual crossover material), Punisher Summer Special (1991) #2, Punisher Holiday Special (1992) #1, Ghost Rider / Wolverine / Punisher: Hearts of Darkness (1991) OGN, Punisher Bloodlines (1992) #1, Marvel Graphic Novel (1982) #70 – Punisher: Blood on the Moors (1992), Punisher: G-Force (1992) #1, Punisher: Die Hard In The Big Easy (1992), Punisher/Black Widow: Spinning Doomsday’s Web (1992), Punisher/Captain America: Blood and Glory (1992) #1-3, Punisher: Back to School Special (1992) #1, Punisher: The Ghosts of Innocents (1993) #1-2

That extends past the end of Epic Collection Vol. 7 to end just prior to the big “Suicide Run” crossover, which would surely push that volume to be too long. Even if we just include #82-85 it also pulls in Holiday Special #3 and we’re suddenly pushing the limits of what Marvel would reasonably collect.

Punisher Vol. 4 AKA “Suicide Run” might collect from July 1993 to May 1995

This would collect The Punisher (1987) #82-104 & Annual 6-7, the “Suicide Run” crossover (Punisher War Journal (1989) #61-64 & Punisher War Zone (1992)#23-25), the “Countdown” crossover (Punisher War Journal (1989) #79-80 & Punisher War Zone (1992) #41), Punisher Summer Special (1991) #3-4, Punisher Holiday Special (1992) #2-3, Punisher: Back to School Special (1992) #2-3, Wolverine/Punisher: Damaging Evidence (1993) #1-3, Punisher Invades The ‘Nam: Final Invasion (1994) #1, Spider-Man / Punisher / Sabretooth: Designer Genes (1993) OGN, Venom: Funeral Pyre (1993) #1-3, Punisher: Empty Quarter (1994) OGN

That might be slightly too long, but I don’t think it makes sense to break to a fifth volume anywhere after “Countdown” since then the volume would be too slim.

Punisher Vol. 5 AKA “Over the Edge” is a slimmer omnibus of around 30 issues that would collect all of the material from July 1995 to Feb 1997, after which Punisher goes on a brief hiatus.

This would collect Double Edge (1995) Alpha, Web of Spider-Man (1985) #127, Daredevil (1964) #344, Ghost Rider (1990) #65, Incredible Hulk (1968) #433, Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme (1988) #81, Double Edge (1995) Omega, Punisher (1995) #1-18, Spider-Man/Punisher: Family Plot (1996) #1-2, and Over The Edge (1995) #5

Punisher Omnibus Mapping: “Blue & Gold” Style Map

This map is a reading order map of all major Punisher material from 1987 to 1997, including all three ongoing titles as well as all of Punisher’s other major appearances. Since it is in reading order, where it is reasonable it may include Specials and OGN slightly ahead of or behind their release dates, depending on where they fit in reading order.

Expand the mapping

So I don’t have to write “Punisher” over and over again, Punisher is abbreviated to “P” in all series titles in this map. The Punisher (1987) is P (1987), The Punisher War Journal (1988) is PWJ (1988), and The Punisher War Zone (1992) is PWZ (1992).

Punisher Vol. 1 would collect P (1987) #1-7, P: Assassin’s Guild OGN (1988), P (1987) #8-10, Daredevil  (1964) #257, P (1987) #11-13, Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #140-143, PWJ (1988) #1-3, P (1987) #14-18, PWJ (1988) #4-5, P (1987) #19, Power Pack (1984) #46, PWJ (1988) #6-7, P (1987) #20-23 & Annual 2, PWJ (1988) #8-9, Shadowmasters (1989) #1-4

Punisher Vol. 3 would collect P:No Escape (1990) OGN, P: The Prize (1990) OGN, Impossible Man: Summer Vacation Spectacular (1990) #1 (5th story), Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #59 (4th story), Ghost Rider (1990) #5-6, P: Kingdom Gone (1990) OGN, P (1987) #35-40, Marc Spector: Moon Knight (1989) #19-21, P (1987) #41-42, PWJ (1988) #25-27, P (1987) #43, Uncanny X-Men (1963) #272, P (1987) #44, New Warriors (1990) #8-9 (and material from #7), P (1987) #45-46, PWJ (1988) #28, P (1987) #47-48, Wolverine/Punisher: Damaging Evidence (1993) #1-3, Punisher (1987) Annual 4, Daredevil (1964) #292-293, Punisher/Captain America: Blood and Glory (1993) #1-3

Punisher Vol. 4 would collect PWJ (1988) #29-30, Punisher: P.O.V. (1991) #1-4, PWJ (1988) #31-34, Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #353-358, Darkhawk (1991) #9, PWJ (1988) #35-36, Deathlok (1991) #6-7, P: Summer Special (1991) #1, PWJ (1988) #37, Ghost Rider / Wolverine / Punisher: Hearts of Darkness (1991) OGN, Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #101 (4th story), P: Bloodlines (1992) #1, P: Blood on the Moors (1992), P (1987) #49-62, P: The Ghosts of Innocents (1993) #1-2

Punisher Vol. 5 would collect P (1987) #63-70, Cage (1992) #3-4, Marvel Holiday Special 1991 (3rd story), PWJ (1988) #38-41, P: G Force (1992) OGN, PWZ (1992) #1-11, P Summer Special (1991) #2, Marc Spector: Moon Knight (1989) #35-38, PWJ (1988) #42-44, P: Die Hard in the Big Easy (1992) OGN, Punisher/Black Widow: Spinning Doomsday’s Web (1992)

Punisher Vol. 6 would collect P (1987) #71 & Annual 5, “Dead Man’s Hand” (PWJ (1988) #45, Nomad (1992) #5, Daredevil (1964) #308, PWJ(1988) #46, & Daredevil (1964) #309), PWJ (1988) #47, P (1987) #72, Quasar (1989) #42, Incredible Hulk (1968) #395-396, Terror Inc (1992) #6-7, PWJ (1988) #48-51, Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins (1992) #5 (and material from #4), P: Back to School Special (1992) #1, P (1987) #73-75, P Holiday Special (1992) #1, Marvel Holiday Special 1992 (4th story), PWZ (1992) #12-16, Silver Sable and the Wild Pack (1992) #10, Spider-Man (1990) #32-34, Secret Defenders (1993) #4-5, P (1987) #76-79

Punisher Vol. 7 would collect PWJ (1988) #52-56, Nightstalkers (1992) #5-6, Spider-Man / Punisher / Sabretooth: Designer Genes (1993) OGN, P (1987) #80, P Summer Special (1991) #3, PWZ (1992) #17-19, Punisher (1987) #81, Venom: Funeral Pyre (1993) #1-3, PWZ (1992) Annual 1, PWJ (1988) #57-60, P (1987) Annual 6, P Back to School Special (1992) #2, P (1987) #82-84, PWZ (1992) #20-22, P Holiday Special (1992) #2, Thunderstrike (1993) #3

It’s important that Volume 7 breaks before The Punisher (1987) #85, which kicks off the substantial “Suicide Run” crossover. However, due to scheduling issues, there are 27 issues that fit between issue #85 and the next chapter of the crossover. That includes issues from all three ongoings from after the crossover was over. So, if Marvel didn’t mind running some material out of publishing order, they have a lot of things they could pull forward to the prior books.

Punisher Vol. 8 AKA “Suicide Run” would collect P (1987) #85, P Invades the ‘Nam (1994), PWZ (1988) #26-30, P (1987) #89-92, P Summer Special (1991) #4, PWZ (1992) Annual 2, P Back to School Special (1992) #3, P (1987) #93, PWZ (1992) #31-40, P Holiday Special (1992) #3, Ghost Rider / Wolverine / Punisher: The Dark Design (1994) OGN, PWJ (1988) #61, PWZ (1992) #23, P (1987) #86, PWZ (1988) #24, P (1987) #87, PWJ (1988) #63, PWZ (1992) #25, P (1987) #88. PWJ (1988) #64

Unfortunately, there’s just no way to get all the way from “Suicide Run” to “Final Countdown” in one book that collects the whole line, unless we pulled forward almost all of those 27 issues of earlier stories into Vol. 7 and beefed up all six of the prior volumes by 3-4 issues to accommodate that.

Punisher Vol. 9 AKA “Final Countdown” would collect Punisher: A Man Named Frank OGN (1994), PWJ (1988) #65-69, P (1987) #94-95, PWJ (1988) #70-73, P: Empty Quarter (1994) OGN, P (1987) Annual 7, P (1987) #96, PWJ (1988) #74, P (1987) #97-100, PWJ (1988) #75-77, P (1987) #101-102, PWJ (1988) #78, P (1987) #103, PWJ (1988) #79, PWZ (1992) #41, P (1987) #104, PWJ (1988) #80

We’d end with the same 28-issue “Over the Edge” volume as in the other map. The only way it really makes sense to change that is if we push the final 15 issue run of The Punisher (1987) #97-104, The Punisher War Journal (1988) #75-80, and the Punisher War Zone (1992) #41 into “Over the Edge.”

That could shorten this entire line by one book if we pull some material forward from “Suicide Run” into Vol. 7 and then pull forward the truncated material from prior to The Punisher (1987) #96 into “Suicide Run.”

Punisher Vol. 10 AKA “Over the Edge” would collect This would collect Double Edge (1995) Alpha, Web of Spider-Man (1985) #127, Daredevil (1964) #344, Ghost Rider (1990) #65, Incredible Hulk (1968) #433, Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme (1988) #81, Double Edge (1995) Omega, Punisher (1995) #1-18, Spider-Man/Punisher: Family Plot (1996) #1-2, and Over The Edge (1995) #5

If you absolutely LOVED all of that, you really ought to subscribe to my Patreon – which is what allows me to put all of my life on pause and do those sorts of deep dives into mapping. (That one took about five hours to work out, and resulted in a much improved Guide to Punisher – so it was worth it!)

The ‘Nam Vol. 2 (1990 – 1993) [could include Semper Fi]

Now that we have The ‘Nam Vol. 1 – and it has sold out on the direct market – I think it is a fine time to vote for us to get the second volume.

If you aren’t familiar with it, The ‘Nam (1986) was Marvel’s grounded, realistic take on the Vietnam War, occasionally starring Frank Castle in his days in the armed forces.

I’ve always found it intriguing and slightly moving that this war comic survived into the 1990s, which is a comment on the fascination and regret that the American public held for the Vietnam War at the time. Speaking as someone who was a child seeing this book on the stands, I can say that memories of family and friends who were drafted and lost in the war still lingered not only for Baby Boomers, but also their Gen X and Millennial children. There was also the growing awareness of the atrocities committed against the Vietnamese people from both sides of the conflict.

The ‘Nam never shied away from that, even if it sometimes got mired in the gun-worship that came with having a slight connection with The Punisher. Yet, there were also issues focusing on individual soldiers and families in Vietnam.

At the conclusion of the series, there is a full on Punisher story called “Punisher Invades The ‘Nam” that was meant to be the final three issues but got pulled out to be its own original graphic novel. It ends with some present day scenes that include Frank Castle.

This would collect The ‘Nam (1986) #46-85 and Punisher Invades The ‘Nam: Final Invasion (1994) #1. (The ‘Nam Magazine (1988) #1-10 were black-and-white reprints.)

This could potentially add Epic Graphic Novel – Hearts and Minds: A Vietnam Love Story (1990). Also, it could include the similarly-themed Semper Fi (1988) #1-9.

Punisher Omnibus Mapping: Punisher from 1998 – 2012

We have just two omnibuses from this period. Punisher by Garth Ennis from close to the start of this period, where Garth Ennis took Punisher back to basics before that approach was spun off into the separate MAX continuity. And, Punisher by Rick Remender is from close to the end of this period with one of the most brutal and most fanciful takes on Punisher.

What’s left to collect? We could finish off this 15 year period with just three omnibuses!

Punisher: Marvel Knights (1998 – 2006) [non-Ennis material; includes missing arc from Ennis omni]

Punisher (1998) #1

A vote for this book is to collect all of Punisher’s Marvel Knights material NOT by Garth Ennis into a single volume.

That begins with the fanciful take on Punisher as an avenging angel before Ennis grounds things again with “Welcome Back Frank.”

A vote for this book is a vote to collect all of the non-Ennis material from 1998 to 2006, much of which was branded as Marvel Knights. Not only has the majority of this never appeared in oversize hardcover – it’s just never been collected coherently, and much of it has never been recollected beyond its original trade releases of 20 years ago!

This would collect material explicitly under the “Marvel Knights” banner from Punisher (1998) #1-4, Wolverine/Punisher: Revelation (1999) #1-4, the “missing arc” of the Ennis omnibus with Punisher (2001) #8-12, then Punisher X-Mas Special (2006) #1, Spider-Man vs. Punisher (2000) #1 and material from Marvel Knights Double-Shot (2002) #4.

Then, after the conclusion of the material in the Ennis omnibus, this would continue to collect Wolverine/Punisher (2004) #1-5, Punisher: Silent Night (2005) #1, Punisher: Red X-Mas (2004) #1, Daredevil vs. Punisher (2005) #1-5, Punisher vs. Bullseye (2005) #1-5, Punisher: Bloody Valentine (2006) #1, and Punisher: X-Mas Special (2006) #1 to fill this out and complete the coverage of this period. Not all of this material was branded as “”Marvel Knights,”” but it all fits in tonally with Knights material that emphasizes a low-super approach to the streets of NYC.

This could also add Punisher War Zone (2009) #1-6, which is Ennis material that follows the subsequent Matt Fraction run but doesn’t fit in with its tone.

The Punisher by Garth Ennis omnibus starts during that volume and ends in the middle of that volume – see Guide to Punisher.

Marvel Knights: The Defenders of NYC (2000 – 2003 & 2018) [Marvel Knights ongoings, Double Shots minis, 20th anniversary]

In 2000, Marvel Knights it launched a flagship title called “Marvel Knights” that was effectively a “NYC street-level heroes team-up” with a core cast of Daredevil, Black Widow, Punisher, & Dagger – but appearances by many more characters. That extended to brief second series in 2002 and spawned a pair of “Double Shot” team-up anthology mini-series that paired Marvel Knights characters with other heroes.

We’ve had a paperback complete collection of the initial 15-issue series billed as “Defenders of the Street,” but no collection of the other 14 issues. That’s a worth omnibus on its own, but it also makes sense to add Marvel Knights 20th (2018), which is a specific tribute to these titles. And, we could optionally also add Elektra: Glimpse & Echo (2002).

A vote for this book is a vote to collect all of the Marvel Knights team titles into a single book, some of which would be collected for the first time!

This book would collect Marvel Knights (2000) #1-15, Marvel Knights (2002) #1-6, and maybe also Marvel Knights Double Shot (2002) #1-4 & (2003) #1-4. It would also contain Marvel Knights 20th (2018) #1-6 as bonus material.

It could make sense to add Elektra: Glimpse & Echo (2002) #1-4, even though that would also be in an Elektra book or an Echo book.

Punisher War Journal by Matt Fraction (2007 – 2009) [fits before Remender]

Matt Fraction ushered Punisher out of his Marvel Knights period and back into the wider and more super-powered Marvel universe. It digs right into that idea by opening with an arc that ties-in to Civil War!

This was relatively early in Fraction’s ascent as as favorite Marvel writer – at least half of it comes before he was writing Iron Man or X-Men. He was never a terrific fit for Punisher, but there are some fun stories in here.

A vote for this book is a vote to recollect Matt Fraction for the first time in omnibus.

This would collect Punisher War Journal (2007) #1-26 & Annual 1-2. It should also add Astonishing Tales: Wolverine/Punisher [Digital Comic] (2008) #1-6 written by current Marvel editor-in-chief C. B. Cebulski, which would otherwise be abandoned.

It could end with Punisher War Zone (2009) #1-6 by Garth Ennis, which also occurs prior to Remender’s run, but it is a tonally weird fit with the material in this book.

Punisher by Rick Remender Omnibus fits here, which is also known as “Franken-Castle” – and if you don’t know why that is, oh boy are you in for a fun ride! See Guide to Punisher.

Punisher by Greg Rucka (2011 – 2013) [follows Remender]

This book was #9 on last year’s Tigereyes poll! After first appearing on the poll in 2017, it has climbed in rank every year from 2021 and on to this all-time peak placement. With Punisher back on screen multiple times in 2026, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this book crack the Top 5. But… will Marvel ever print it?!

Greg Rucka did an excellent job of threading the needle between a grounded, street-level Punisher and a Punisher who could go toe-to-toe with superheroes. Plus, many of the issues are drawn by Marco Checchetto – whose art was already strikingly gorgeous over a decade ago!

A vote for this book is a vote to collect Greg Rucka’s entire fan-favorite run on Punisher into a single oversize volume for the first time!

This would collect The Punisher (2011) #1-16 and Punisher: War Zone (2012) #1-5, plus material from Spider-Island: I Love New York City (2011) #1 and a crossover with Daredevil (2011) #11 and Avenging Spider-Man (2011) #6

Punisher Omnibus Mapping: Punisher from Marvel Now to Present

Starting in Marvel Now, Punisher has had a number of brief, almost-omnibus-sized runs. While we could map four of them into distinct omnibuses, they’d all be pretty brief and would split votes with each other. Our approach to mapping brief runs like this is to combine them into one or more omnibuses collecting the entire period in attempt to attract votes from fans of each the distinct runs.

Punisher: The Modern Years Vol. 1 (2014 & on) [begins to collect Edmonson, Cloonan, Rosenberg, Duggan, Aaron, & Grønbekk]

Punisher (2016) #1

This is the start of omnibus line to collect Punisher from 2014 to the present day.

Would it divide these runs into multiple books focused on each writer? Or, would it simply gang them into a continuous run broken across just two volumes?

That’s a tricky call. Nathan Edmonson’s run on Punisher (2014) with artist Mitch Gerads is just long enough for its own omnibus, but Edmonson’s name won’t sell books (Gerads is much more well-known to fans).

Becky Cloonan’s Punisher (2016) run with Steve Dillon before his untimely passing was a sombre affair that changed tone in a major way when it rolled into Matt Rosenberg taking over for Marvel Legacy.

Rosenberg is a name that might sell an omnibus based on some of his recent DC and indie work, and his run comes the closest to being an omnibus size out of all of this material.

However, it’s followed by just eight issues of Gerry Duggan writing a very fantastical Punisher in the wake of War of the Realms.

That is followed by Jason Aaron writing a brief, deeply brutal, and very supernatural run of Punisher (2022) that almost doesn’t make sense without being paired with Zdarsky’s run on Daredevil and as supported by a trio of one-shots by Torun Grønbekk.

A vote for this book is a book to crack into any of Punisher’s post-2014 content in omnibus, no matter how Marvel chooses to collect it.

This would begin to collect Punisher (2014) #1-20 and Black Widow (2014) #9 (by Edmonson), The Punisher (2016) #1-17 (by Cloonan), its extension into Marvel Legacy with #218-228 (by Rosenberg), The Punisher (2018) #1-16 (by Rosenberg), War of the Realms: Punisher (2019) #1-3 and Punisher Kill Krew (2019) #1-5 (by Duggan), Punisher (2022) #1-12 (by Aaron), three one-shots by Grønbekk supporting Aaron’s run (Punisher War Journal (2022) Base (2023) #1, Punisher War Journal: Blitz (2022) #1, Punisher War Journal: Brother (2022) #1), Punisher (2023) #1-4 (which does not star Frank Castle), and Punisher [Red Band] (2025) #1-5 (a mature readers book)

Punisher MAX Omnibus Mapping

Punisher MAX Companion: World of Punisher MAX (2008 – 2012 (or 2024))

This volume collects all the remaining Punisher MAX material not already collected in the Ennis and Aaron omnibuses, as well as Garth Ennis’ other war stories set within the same Punisher/Fury Max reality.

For Punisher, it would collect Punisher MAX #61-75, Punisher MAX Force of Nature (2008) #1, Punisher MAX Special: Little Black Book (2008) #1, Punisher MAX Naked Kill (2008) #1, Punisher MAX Get Castle (2010) #1, Punisher MAX Butterfly (2010) #1, Punisher MAX Happy Ending (2010) #1, Punisher MAX Hot Rods of Death (2010) #1, Punisher MAX Tiny Ugly World (2010) #1, and Untold Tales of Punisher MAX #1-5.

For Nick Fury, the original Fury MAX #1-6 (2001) and Fury: Peacemaker #1-6 (2006) were left out of the Punisher/Fury MAX Omnibus and can be included here.

Finally, Garth Ennis wrote two Phantom Eagle tales, also set in the same MAX universe as Punisher and Fury during WW1. That means this could add War Is Hell: First Flight of the Phantom Eagle (2008) #1-5 and Where Monsters Dwell (2015): Phantom Eagle Flies the Savage Skies #1-5. That last series is a Secret Wars Battleworld tie-in.
