NaBloPoMo Round-Up #6: Just Gs & Hs

November 20, 2006 by krisis

It occurs to me that these massive link posts might seem like interruptions in content to you, the faithful reader.

However, really this is all about you – introducing you to the witty and interesting lives of dozens of other quality bloggers. Because, while i am currently at the pinnacle of my witty-posting trio-recording A-game, all of us faithful CK followers know that might not continue to be the case in December and beyond.

I’m giving you options, faithful reader, for days when not even a martini with a dash of grand marnier can loosen me up enough to post a post or sing a song. So, listen up.

We begin in the G spot, where i already have two favorites – Gingerbread Latte and Gimme Sanity (sample them here and here, respectively). I have my fingers crossed that they are as regular all the time as they have been this month, as they’ve been daily go-tos since i first found them.

Like me, Girl About Philly is a Philadelphia blogger, but unlike me she actually writes about Philly things. She spends a lot of time in Center City – perhaps we can do lunch? (Can’t say the same for Hope Springs, who abandoned my fair city as well as meat-eating, all in one post. Which roundaboutly brings me to…)

Gluten Free Girl posts some wonderful gluten free recipes, specifically pumpkin pie and Thanksgiving Gravy. Some people are so tied up with their own dietary trends that they refuse to sample vegetarian or gluten-free alternatives. I think it’s an awesome adventure – sometimes the alternative version is better than the original. Perhaps the best chocolate cake i’ve ever had was vegan, made by Rabi‘s mom.

Also, i’m sure this wasn’t gluten-free, but check out this ladybug cake by Gizo is a Bug.

Grumppopotamus augments her mommy-blogging with photos and short videos. This post, accompanied by the latter, left me breathless with laughter. Make sure to read it before pushing play. Green Been Baby in a single day completed some awesome paper-cut art and also potty-training. Quite a day! See more of her art here.

The anonymous Girl is a rare blogger who just pours out her feelings and interactions, and anti-climaxes, as the case might be. Girl is surprisingly free of melodrama, making taking delight in her dilemmas all the more satisfying.

The Hs were a quality bunch. I found myself wanting to stick with each blog for a long while, getting acquainted with their casts of characters. I should have known any letter containing Helen Jane‘s blend of awesome title fonts and scrumptious recipes would be eclectic and enjoyable throughout.

The stupendousness that is Hello My Name Is Scott knocked the blog right out of me for a few minutes. Take my positive life-outlook and general geniality and imagine it as a full-time business and an advice column. Truly and unbelievably awesome. I stopped myself from reading his entire month straight through because i would have never finished this post, but he’s totally going to be my lunch-break tomorrow.

Heat Eat Review would seem to be the microwave dinner answer to Candy Blog. The food reviews carefully balance salient info with sarcasm. Hero Workshop discusses what it really means to be a hero, and how to become one (you know, all Joseph Campbell-y and stuff).

Happy Chatter turns a post about not being able to post into an amusing story and a writing exercise. Out of curiosity i scrolled down her page, and she’s written something interesting every day so far. You should encourage her to keep it up.

Harvard Avenue is a solid blog full of witty posts, so i hardly need to highlight one. Same for Home On the Fringe, which was supposed to be a team effort until someone reneged on the deal. Also, check out this sky.

To be fair, i shouldn’t throw stones, as to keep up my volume of output i have given up eating, sleeping, laundry, and speaking to my friends.

Haute Culture makes a rare post on portion controls that actually discusses strategy and shows results. She’s talking about life improvement that isn’t at all speculative. More power to her. Hashiworks posts some art every day, and i was especially transfixed by this one.

I will not spoil the irony of Healing Magic Hands‘ post Unintended Messages by trying to describe it. Honest Planet allows me to rest easy in knowing i wasn’t the only romantic four-year old; her anecdote leaves me with a new level of horror over my mother’s grade-school hookup machinations – what if it was all a conspiracy with the other parents?!?

Heathers! A handful of major blog-names are scattered throughout NaBloPoMo, but i think – despite her fears – that Heather Champ is keeping up the best with both the letter and the spirit of the event. Heather Anne share a sentimental-but-still-charming post about cooking with her manmaw. Heather Nicole was terrific on the whole, but i especially laughed at this bit: It’s like Pilates for whores!”

Due to the out-of-control rampant awesomeness of the Hs i can’t conscionably squeeze in another letter today, as originally planned, which means the last ten days of NaBloPoMo will be even more ripe (rife?) with reviews, Trios, and actually written content than originally scheduled.

I’m glad you like the cake. I cannot take credit for the Ladybug, it was something that my brother found somewhere (about 70% marzipan, I think). I did make the triple-dairy cheesecake, though, and it was YUMMMO.

I wholeheartedly agree about trying other peoples’ weird diets even if you don’t intend to make it your full-time eating philosophy. I’ve had some great raw food that way.

also, I will tell my mom that you said that about the cake and I guarantee it will make her day. ;)

hey thanks for the comment and link – I am tinkled pink, though why this is so when I don’t know you, nor am I sure of the validity of your reviewing, I am still trying to figure. Whatever, I will bask in the glow of fellow bloggers following links around the globe to reach my humble blog.

Thanks for the shout out. As for my regular posting schedule once NaBloPoMo is up, it should remain fairly constant.

I usually try to post once a day, although on days when I’m really hungover, I might skip it

:D chiming in to say thanks for the mention and kudos. i tend to babble quite a bit about food, eating, working out etc etc etc; I’m glad to hear that someone found it of interest!
