NaBloPoMo Round-Up #8: Me, L, and T

November 26, 2006 by krisis

I know that one of the cardinal rules of blogging is to not post while drunk, but what you don’t know about me is that both my typing and my sentence construction skills are completely unparalleled when i am drunk. I need no conscious thought. I need no spell-check. I am one with my home keys.

(Seriously, i should create a category for drunk posts so you can behold the perfection.)

This may be the result of Gina and Wes coming over for a brief rehearsal, plus drinks and the best eight episodes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force (strangely missing the plastic surgery episode – next time, i suppose).

Long story short, i’m seeing twice as many Ls as there really are, which makes for over two-hundred. Yikes. I should be sober by then.

Favorite Moose in the Kitchen is actually an L (her titled is really “leaning toward left”). You have to look no farther than today’s post to understand why i love her. Also, Laurie Writes has been kindly complementary to me over the course of the event.

Liz Letters writes a letter, every day – some serious and some not. This might not sound to fascinating to you, but as a child i regularly proclaimed “i’m going to write them a letter” every time i discovered anything noteworthy or annoying about life. So, i think it’s pretty cool.

10 Minute Mail is a hugely useful site – it provides a temporary email address so that you can go on a sign-up spree at lots of inconsiquential websites, and the email address subsequently self-destructs. Great for quick flings, but god-help-you if you lose your password. Via Little Liberals.

L’Ementary is shocked out of her media deprivation by the immersion of her family. La Duxieme Stiche posts the best Myers-Briggs i’ve seen online in a long time – it repeats many questions from the actual test. Interestingly, i have gone from weakly I and strongly NTP to the complete opposite. What a difference six years makes.

Lylium is a beautiful young woman experiencing her first year of college, and she posts all of the frank recollections that you would (or did) have of the experience. Lauri’s Reflections posts a few good links to words you should excise from your writing. Most of my editing time is spent streamlining – eliminating these words and other meaningless sentences. The whole process would be quicker if i could learn how to leave them out to begin with.

Lately Bothered failed NaBloPoMo, but her post on Rosie O’Donnell nearly asphyxiated me with laughter. I can’t even tell you how i got from L-blogs to this but, dude, that’s amazing.

Left Out Front is one of those great blogs where everything is interesting, so i have no reason to cherry-pick any best posts. LoobyLu is a well-known and -regarded blog that’s been around as long as i have, more or less, and she is keeping up with NaBloPoMo admirably.

Wow, i survived the Ls, even if attempting to read the screen was like doing parallel translation from Romanian for an hour or two in there. There are links that i don’t have any recollection of reading!

(Here’s where i went to bed for about six hours and magically awoke without a hangover!)

Having regained my stamina (and lost my double-vision), i am now dodging past some of my remaining letters to work on the Ts.

Turning Point features a post with a nifty embedded classical music player that helped get me through the Ts. Thank you!

We are reminded that every word had been written before by Today I Write. It sounds like a grim thing to focus on when you’re writing, but i see it as a inspiring challenge – these words have been used before, but if i am ingenious they will have never before appeared in the context i have given them.

Table 144 shows us that having two mommies doesn’t make being a mommy any easier, and that just as much (if not more) hilarity ensues. Telescreen posts a picture worth so many words that it was featured on Gothamist.

Theatrical Milestones has had a rough year, including breaking off an engagement and euthanized kitties, and she still managed to be thankful this week. On the other end of that spectrum, Thailand Gal blogs about her impromptu wedding on the beach.

Tongue Tyed sports a fantastic layout that reminds me of an old CK concept – for a while i wanted my page to look like a dress shirt, with floating bubbles of information where the buttons would be. That would have been horrific, but Tongue Tyed’s sidebar makes great use of the concept.

Tippy Toes and Tantrums battles with her conscience over whether Disney’s princess pap is suitable for her daughter and hilariously resolves that she will only get one viewing in English, with all subsequent ones being in French. Thank you for giving me hope (and strategy!) for my far-in-the-future parenting years.

Thoughts of a Crazy Redhead actually knows one of those girls who did one of those peculiar online pornos where she gets in a van with a stranger and winds up having sex on camera for a relatively small amount of money. I just assumed these people were porn-star ringers who were decent at acting innocent but apparently they are real people climbing into strangers vans to do internet porn.

Typewriter Monkey has resolved to actually play CalvinBall. Should yield interesting results. Tinarama tempers a fit of materialism by appreciating the history of things.

Finally, as if to counter my previous post, Table For Five had a productive and human Black Friday that she could have never experienced online.

I now only have five letters left to review, and fives days left to review them in. Unfortunately, the five of them combined account for a disproportionate 30% of NaBloPoMo thanks to the monstrous M and S, which by themselves are over a fifth of the event. Yikes!

Thanks for the link! I went back and read the previous post, and you’re right, by going out on Friday I did get to experience a few moments of human kindness. And I read that the Wal-Mart website crashed Friday morning from all the people trying to shop online.

Good luck with the rest of the reviews!

Hang in there for the rest of the reviews. I am one of the monstrous S blogs. I feel your pain. Thanks for all of your hard work.

Oof, I just can’t drink the way I used to. That can make me sad on Friday mornings since I both insist on watching Grey’s Anatomy and find that it can only been done with some degree of inebriation.

Good luck with the S’s. I’m looking forward to finding some good new stuff to read out of your reviews. I’ve enjoyed the posts you’ve highlighted so far.

Thank you for your kind mention of my little blog. I’ve pumped it up abit this week and gone back to my first love, smooth jazz. Don’t be surprised if you find me getting into the Christmas mood in the couple of weeks. Never know what you’ll find over here.

Interesting blog you’ve got here. I need to investigate it further. Cheers!

If anyone is looking for a web/blog designer, she can be found at the link in my sidebar for Seaglass. That’s her blog…She was great.
