The Future of Privacy @ #140conf: Day 2, pt. 6

April 21, 2010 by krisis

This talk goes on my highlights list – amazing content that all social media users should consider.

Privacy, Secrecy, Publicy – Stowe Boyd, Analyst, Advisor, and Futurist (@stoweboyd)

“We have secrecy for secret, privacy for private” but no word for things that are made (or made to remain) public.”

Every paragraph of this talk has a notable quotable. I encourage you to read it and consider what it means to you. It was easy to summarize rather than transcribe, because it was organized very well – the words are mine, but the content entirely belongs to Stowe.

Paper on Twitter @ #140conf: Day 2, pt. 5

April 21, 2010 by krisis

Two great panels – one from journalists, and another from the comic book industry – talking about how their two newsprint industries can move seamlessly into the social web.

This is the quote of the entire conference, because at least half of it has been about this:

“The role of journalists and editors now is to form [news] into a piece of narrative and inform. Real time web becomes right time web,” getting the information people want to them in a digestible format at the right time.

Also, my paraphrase from the comic panel:

It’s not a surprise that creators are celebrities – they are the artist and the auteur. It’s different than film or television stars.

Best Buy’s @Twelpforce @ #140conf: Day 2, pt. 4

April 21, 2010 by krisis

I am currently inconsolable because I missed @syfy’s five minute mini-talk because I was too nice to excuse myself from a conversation.

(I really do not like it in the schmooze room. Every time I go in there I like the conference less.)

One talk I was sure not to miss was a panel from Best Buy’s Twelpforce, a Twitter-based help team!

Jeff Jarvis @ #140conf: Day 2, pt. 3

April 21, 2010 by krisis

Jeff Jarvis! His talk is called Comments Are Backwards, but it went way beyond comments. So far my favorite talk of the day, though the current one from @lizstrauss is amazing!

More news on that later. First, Jeff’s opening comment:

“Comments are the true voices of assholes.”

Find out how he thinks comments can be fixed: by accepting they aren’t broken – the process is.

Money talks (to Twitter) @ #140conf: Day 2, pt. 2

April 21, 2010 by krisis

Presenting two non-adjacent sets of notes here – one on a talk with a venture capitalist on Twitter’s board of directors, and another about how Telecoms can survive and thrive with Twitter instead of going extinct.

Common theme? Follow the money.
