Crushing Comics S01E071 – The Most Dangerous Thing + Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 8 Vol. 1-2

February 8, 2018 by krisis

Today I wonder: what is the most dangerous thing you’ve ever intentionally done? After sharing my most-dangerous story, I unwrap the first two Library Editions of Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 8. In the process, I discuss how Season 7 lead to this comic and what it means to keep getting more Buffy in perpetuity.

Want to start from the beginning of this season of videos? Here’s the complete Season 1 playlist of Crushing Comics.

Episode 71 features Buffy, The Vampire Slayer Season 8 Library Editions Volume 1 and Volume 2.

Crushing Comics S01E068 – Rick Remender’s Fear Agent + The Impermanence of Information

February 1, 2018 by krisis

I begin today by musing on the ephemeral nature of the vast amounts of information we publish daily in this digital age. How will the archeologists and historians access all of this data, and what will they think of it?

After those deep thoughts, I unwrap the pair of library editions of Rick Remender’s Fear Agent. My memory of the plot of this modern take on sci-fi pulp is a bit dim, but I share some of the history of the series as related in iFanBoy’s fantastic three-part oral history and attempt to explain why I don’t love this series.

Want to start from the beginning of this season of videos? Here’s the complete Season 1 playlist of Crushing Comics.

Episode 68 features Fear Agent Library Edition Volume 1 and Volume 2 from Dark Horse Comics. These editions are about to get very scarce, as Rick Remender has moved the publishing rights for this series back to Image Comics!

Crushing Comics S01E058 – Hellboy Library Edition Volume 5 & Volume 6

January 10, 2018 by krisis

I (incorrectly) predict that I’m opening an Absolute Edition, and explain how my lack of spacial reasoning skills completely put me off of math as an academic subject. Then I discuss my final two volumes of Hellboy Library Editions without having read them before.

What can I possibly be talking about? How Hellboy is unique in his ability to move forward, grow, and change as a character, as opposed to characters like Captain America and Rogue who are constantly returned to their factory settings.

Want to start from the beginning of this season of videos? Here’s the complete Season 1 playlist of Crushing Comics.

Episode 58 features Hellboy Library Edition, Volume 5: Darkness Calls and The Wild Hunt and Hellboy Library Edition, Volume 6: The Storm and The Fury and The Bride of Hell.

Crushing Comics S01E047 – Having a “beginner’s mind” + Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 8 Library Editions Vol. 3 & 4

December 26, 2017 by krisis

Today I start out musing on the concept of a “beginner’s mind,” and how for as much as we see the trope in fiction we have a trouble replicating it in our every day lives. Then, I unwrap the latter half of Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 8 and discuss how the unlimited budget of the comic page subtly changed Buffy into something less personal than the TV show we remember.

Crushing Comics S01E033 – Finding foreign spices + Angel & Faith Library Editions from Buffy Season 9

December 6, 2017 by krisis

In this episode I share an anecdote about going spice shopping with my E and then unwrap the trio of Angel & Faith Library Editions from Buffy Season 9. I haven’t read these books yet, but my brain is packed with information from Buffy Season 1-8, so I give a rundown of how Faith came to be (although I inexplicably don’t mention The Mayor!) and discuss my love for Christos Gage.

Want to start from the beginning of this season of videos? Here’s the complete Season 1 playlist of Crushing Comics.

Episode 33 features Angel & Faith: Season 9 Library Editions Vol. 1, Vol. 2, and Vol. 3.
