The 2013 Inaugural Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus Secret Ballot Results (and, what’s been printed?)

April 23, 2017 by krisis

Right now Marvel Omnibus fans across the web are voting open for the 5th Annual Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus Secret Ballot, but today we’re going to flash back to the first ballot back in 2013.

2013 was a simpler time with a simpler list of just 33 selections. Due to the smaller scale of participations, a few imaginative picks were able to slip through that we haven’t seen since. Also, there was slightly less of an obsession with simply extending every open line.

Last year I devoted just one summary post to what got printed and what disappeared, but to this point the only place to read the full results of prior ballots was to dig through dozens of message board posts.

How many of those books have we seen printed since then? In total, 21 of 33 (63.6%) of the 2013 votes have been recollected in some format.

Of 33 Most-Wanted Marvel Omnibuses of 2013…

6 of 33 (18.2%) omnibuses were printed in 2014

Amazing Spider-Man by Roger Stern, Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender, Captain America by Ed Brubaker Vol. 4 AKA The Trial of Captain America, Fantastic Four, Vol. 3, Annihilation, Infinity Gauntlet (from Infinity Trilogy Saga)

9 of 33 (45.5%) additional omnibuses have been solicited to date

The 6 above, plus Uncanny X-Men, Vol. 2, Alpha Flight by John Byrne, Amazing Spider-Man. Vol. 3, Doctor Strange, Vol. 1, Werewolf by Night, Amazing Spider-Man by David Michelinie & Erik Larsen, Avengers (1998) by Kurt Busiek, Journey Into Mystery by Kieron Gillen, Master of Kung-Fu, Vol. 1

That means 14 (42.4%) of all 2013 Most Wanted Marvel Omnibuses have been printed as Omnibuses! But, what about the proposed material hitting other formats?

8 of 33 (23.2%) omnibuses had some or all of their contents solicited in a non-omnibus format in 2014

Uncanny X-Men, Vol. 2 (in OHC), New Mutants, Vol. 1 (in TPB), Moon Knight by Doug Moench, Vol. 1, X-Factor (2006) by Peter David, Vol. 1, Avengers by Roger Stern, Vol. 1, Ultimate Spider-Man, Vol. 2, Journey Into Mystery by Kieron Gillen, Ms. Marvel (1977)

6 of 33 (18.2%) additional omnibuses had some or all of their contents solicited to date

New Mutants, Vol. 1 (again, in Epic), Moon Knight by Doug Moench, Vol. 1 (again in Epic), Uncanny X-Men by Chris Claremont & John Romita Jr (AKA Vol. 4) (in Epic and MMW), Doctor Strange, Vol. 1 (MMW in addition to the 2016 omnibus), Daredevil by Ann Nocenti, Vol. 1 (in Epic), Amazing Spider-Man by David Michelinie & Erik Larson (in Epic in addition to the 2017 omnibus), Avengers by Roger Stern, Vol. 2, , Super-Villain Team-Up (in TPB)

That means 14 of 52 (42.4%) of all 2013 Most Wanted Marvel Omnibuses were printed in some other format. Meanwhile, four unprinted Omnibuses from the 2013 results didn’t return in 2016. For more on those books, see last year’s past survey summary, What’s been printed and what’s gone missing?
