Next week is the 5th new comic book day of 2025! This post covers DC Comics January 29 2025 new releases. Missed this week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering DC Comics January 22 2025 new releases.
DC maintains a consistent “four weeks a month” release schedule for most of its major titles, so any month with a fifth release week tends to be pretty sparse, often filled with annuals and one-shots.
This week in DC Comics: Lex Luthor’s inner life revealed, the return of The Power Company, an Absolute Miracle, the many shades of Green Lantern Corps, and more!
The Krisis Pick of the Week: Joshua Williamson’s Superman (2023) is firmly ensconced in my Top 10 series of 2025 after last week, so Superman: Lex Luthor Special (2025) #1 is my natural pick here. I want to know what’s up with Lex and how that’s going to lead in to a new year of Superman stories!
This post includes every comic out from DC Comics January 29 2025, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats.
This isn’t the typical comic releases post you can find on other sites. Why? I explain each collection and review every in-continuity series with a new issue out this week. Plus, for most new releases, I’ll point you to a personally-curated guide within the Crushing Comics Guide to DC Comics to find out how to collect that title in full!
There’s no other website on the internet that can claim that.
And now, onto DC Comics January 29 2025 new releases!
DC Comics January 29 2025 Collected Editions
DC Power 2024
(2025 hardcover, ISBN 978-1779528643 / digital)
There are some incorrect solicits out there for this book causing confusion! It is almost exactly a straight-up hardcover reprint of last year’s DC Power (2024) #1, a $9.99 100-page anthology one-shot comic with a cardstock cover. It also adds some supporting material to bring it to 144 pages that has yet to be revealed – but it is not a 500-page hardcover, as mentioned in some early incorrect solicits.
Absolute Mister Miracle by Tom King and Mitch Gerads
(2025 slipcased oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1779527578)
See Guide to Mister Miracle. This collects the entire acclaimed King & Gerads 2017 series focused on self-harm and Scott Free’s legacy as a child of Apokolips.
Static: Shadows of Dakota
(2025 paperback, ISBN 978-1779528087 / digital)
This book collects Static: Shadows of Dakota (2023) #1-7 and Static Team-Up: Anansi (2023) #1, both part of the ongoing Milestone Universe.

DC Comics January 29 2025 Physical Comic Releases
Batman: The Long Halloween – The Last Halloween (2024) #1 – Noir Edition (digital) – This is a black-and-white re-release of Batman: The Long Halloween – The Last Halloween (2024) #1.
DC Power: Rise of the Power Company (2025) #1 (digital) – This is officially the “DC Power” Black History Month one-shot for 2025, but it’s also a story that ties in very closely to the current status quo for the Justice League in the wake of Absolute Power (2024) and the DC All-In Special (2024).
So far, all of DC’s heroic titles have focused on the positives of the wake of Amanda Waller’s rule in Absolute Power (2024). Sure, some of the heroes and villains have mixed up powers as a result and there’s an echo of death haunting the Challengers of the Unknown, but we really haven’t seen much anti-heroes sentiment reflecting Waller’s platform.
However, that feeling certainly exists on the ground in the DC Universe – perhaps beneath the notice of most of its meta-humans. That’s why this special introduces focuses on Josiah Power, and how his rebuilt Power Company seeks to protect BIPOC communities and restore humanity’s faith in heroes.
As with many of DC’s current books, this is going to be build on a foundation of both Absolute Power (2024) and the DC All-In Special (2024). But, because this one is a one-shot focusing on the specificity of the new status quo on Earth, I suspect it will be easy to pick up and enjoy on its own.
DC’s Lex and the City (2025) #1 (one-shot) (digital) – The first of two Lex Luthor one-shots this week, except this isn’t really all about Lex. It’s a Valentine’s Day special – one of DC’s $9.99 mega one-shot anthologies with eight short stories.
Green Lantern (2023) #19 (digital) – See Guide to Green Lantern – Hal Jordan. How did this Green Lantern ongoing wind up in the fifth release week of the month? Because the Green Lantern: Fractured Spectrum (2025) #1 one-shot occupied a normal spot in the release line-up.
If you want to pick up Green Lantern you could begin here, as it kicks off a new arc, but I’d recommend simply grabbing Fractured Spectrum, since it’s also by Jeremy Adams and it sets up the new status quo for 2025.
Superman: Lex Luthor Special (2025) #1 (one-shot) (digital) – See Guide to Superman (1987 – Present). This one-shot is very much a part of the ongoing Joshua Williamson run on Superman (2023).
That’s not only because it is written by Williamson, but because last week’s issue hinted that Lex was starting to regain some of his memories after the events of “House of Brainiac” last year prior to Absolute Power (2024).
I’m sure this will be written to stand alone well on its own, but Superman (2023) has been so strong and so gorgeous that you could also backtrack to read “House of Brainiac” or even all the way to the start of the series.
The Untold Legend of the Batman: Limited Edition (2025) #1 (one-shot) – This is a one-shot recollecting the complete story from The Untold Legend of the Batman (1980) #1-3 (digital) by Len Wein, Jim Aparo, and John Byrne. This was essentially a recap of Batman’s Pre-Crisis origins prior to Frank Miller & David Mazzucchelli’s “Year One.” This material has been previously collected with both Wein and Aparo Batman material.
