Next week is the 16th new comic book day of 2025! This post covers Image Comics April 16 2025 new releases. Missed this week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering Image Comics April 9 2025 new releases.
This week in Image Comics: Redcoat meets another Unnamed, two Rogue Suns plus a Radiant Black, Body Bags zips up, Horizon Experiment in trade, Leonardo Romero goes full auteur on GI Joe’s Spirit, and more!
The Krisis Pick of the Week: I’m excited for Rogue Sun (2022) #26! I was so excited about my initial contact with Rogue Sun last month that I’m equally psyched for my catchup read and for a new issue.
This post includes every comic out from Image Comics this week on April 16 2025, plus collected editions. This isn’t the typical comic releases post you can find on other sites. Why? I explain each collection and comment on every series with a new issue out this week to help you figure out if they’re for you.
Plus, for some long-running series and Image Comics imprints, I’ll point you to a personally-curated guide within the Crushing Comics Guide to Indie Comics to find out how to collect that title in full!
There’s no other website on the internet that can claim that.
And now, onto Image Comics April 16 2025 new releases!
Image Comics April 16 2025 Collected Editions
Note: Image Comics collections hit the direct market 2-3 weeks prior to when they ship to the book market, so if you order these Image Comics April 16 2025 books today from a traditional bookseller they will still be pre-orders and will arrive in a few weeks.
The Horizon Experiment
(2025 paperback, ISBN 978-1534337008 / digital)
This was an interesting series of one-shots commissioned by writer/editor Pornsak Pichetshote, who wanted to see creators flip some common genre tropes on their heads by recasting them with Black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC) lead characters and stories grounded in their culture.
Each issue was a pilot for a different concept, which made them fun to pick up but ultimately somewhat dissatisfying – since they are pitches that went nowhere. If you’ve got an appetite for those sorts of one-shot stories, you might enjoy this.
Saga Vol. 2
(2025 paperback, ISBN 978-1534342545)
See Guide to Saga by Vaughan & Staples. This is a 2025 reprint of the same Volume 2 paperback many of us already have on our shelves, but with a new cover illustration from Fiona Staples.
I got to recommend Saga to a dear friend recently and I was so gratified to hear back a week later than he was completely in love with it. Even over a decade later it’s truly one of the most uniquely interesting indie comics in history!

Deadly Tales of the Gunslinger Spawn (2024) #5 (digital) – – See Guide to Spawn Universe. I dropped this title due to its disturbing fixation on violence against women with sexual overtones.
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero – Spirit (2025) #1 (digital) – Leonardo Romero scripting for himself to draw and Cris Peter on colors?!?! WHAAAAAAT?! Skybound is really sparing no expense on the creator line-up on these “Silent Missions” one shot. I can’t even tell you the last time G.I. Joe had creators this hot touching it, and certainly not in Larry Hama’s Real American Hero continuity.
Hack / Slash / Body Bags (2024) #4 (digital) – I love that this series is big, flashy, silly, and incredibly rude. It’s fascinating to me how hard Tim Seeley is leaning into tributing the world of Jason Pearson’s hyper-obscure Body Bags (1996). This is really a love-letter to Pearson’s setting and characters more than it is in keeping with the style of Hack / Slash.
Unfortunately, that has yielded a story that’s not exactly remarkable. There’s an assassin high school where everyone hates everyone else, and they’re locked in there with a murderer! Other than the students, I mean. And he might be undead! Oooo, spooky! But, truly, a lot of the thrill of this is seeing Stefano Caselli unleashed to draw totally outside of typical Marvel house style.
The Hive (2025) #3 (digital) – This “are they a mob or are they worker bees to a queen” series had a messy issue #1 that inspired a quick drop. Even in a world where comics reviews tend to trend heavily positive, this one has taken a beating on reviews. I don’t put much stock into comic book review aggregates, but when I don’t like a book and the average ratings are under 3.5/5 there are definitely some problems.
King Spawn (2021) #44 (digital) – See Guide to Spawn Universe. This book continues to bring the most fun out of the entire Spawn line every month.
Last issue was quick moving, incredibly brutal, and presented a strong mystery with plenty of hooks and hints for the reader. And, Spawn looked fantastic thanks to both Yıldıray Çınar and Júlio Ferreira.
I freakin’ loved it. It’s hard to get excited about the main Spawn (1992) title when this one is so much sharper and tightly-focused.
Redcoat (2024) #11 (digital) – Note: This is not yet listed on Amazon for digital release next week, which could be a sign it will be delayed.
Due to intense viewer pressure, I’m going to give this one another try this week. I was just so deathly bored by the character and concept in the first two issues that making it to issue #11 seems like a form of torture.
Maybe it gets better, or maybe it’s distinctly not my thing. However, this issue tempts me by introducing a new element of the loosely-structured shared universe of “The Unnamed” by introducing yet another living legend into the mix: The Northerner.
Rogue Sun (2022) #26 (digital) – Last month, I read both the first issue of Rogue Sun and the new issue #25 – billed as a perfect jumping on point…
…and I loved both of them!!! I found the premise of the series very engaging: a delinquent teenager inherits his estranged father’s mystical Iron Man armor instead of his prim and proper rich step-siblings. One catch: the armor is haunted by dear old dad.
That’s a terrific story hook. It mashes up a familiar concept of super-powered equipment, adds in family drama, and makes the hero young enough to give us a relatable hero’s journey and room for personal growth.
Then I read issue #25 without catching up to that point (a proud Image tradition inspired by “Images of Tomorrow,” my favorite storyline gimmick of all time!). And, whoa, things get turned on their head by issue #25!
There’s two suits now, and one of them is haunted by someone completely different. Our main character is estranged from half of his family (and it’s a surprising half). There’s a mysterious benefactor in the mix.
Those were all also terrific story hooks. Now I’m not only interested to keep reading, but I’m keenly interested to catch up to see how we got to the present day.
Terrific work all around from Ryan Parrott and the rest of the creative team on this one. It’s the first Massive-Verse series to squarely hit for me.
The Walking Dead Deluxe (2020) #111 (digital) – The colorized version of Walking Dead continues through its “March to War” leading to the “All Out War” story of Rick vs. Negan.
Youngblood (2025) #1 – See Guide to Youngblood. I am always primed and ready to get back on my Youngblood bullshit, but Rob Liefeld isn’t making it easy for me! This issue is twenty dollars for a single floppy comic.
Also, I’m not sure if it’s the case for this issue, but I’ve read that last year’s revival of The Rob’s 90s Extreme Universe characters for Last Blood (2024) could only be bought directly from him on Social Media?
What in the multi-level marketing scheme madness is that about!?
The thing I have always said about Liefeld is that he is an AMAZING “idea guy” and an incredible project starter. What he is not is a finisher. That’s fine. Some people’s gift in life is to throw a constant barrage of new ideas out into the world and not to take them over the finish line at issue 50. Or 20.
Hell, I’d even settle for an issue five from Rob, which at least Marvel can squeeze out of him when he drops by looking for an easy paycheck after the last time he swore them off.
Will this issue even come out next week? WHO KNOWS?! How can I buy it? WHO CAN SAY?! That’s the game Rob Liefeld is playing in 2025, and as someone who is still willing to buy his stuff it’s kinda tiresome.
Will I read this? If it turns up on digital, sure! But, that’s not going to happen anytime soon. And, even if it does turn up for $20 USD… which is $34.45 NZD as of this writing… I dunno. That’s 4-6 other comics worth of weekly budget for this one book.
Youngblood Deluxe (2025) #1 was delayed until next week.
