Pandora's Aquarium / ra - Tori Amos
By the way, 5am has been designated as Request Hour. Now, it’s not going to be anything as thrilling as the request hour from last year, but that’s because each song required a lot more planning this year. Essentially, last year i could just sortof stand in front of my monitor and belt stuff out. This year i have to decide how to amplify everything into the mixer, and then EQ it all, and then set levels, and then mix into the computer, and then i have to go stand in some awkward position somewhere to sing into a precariously placed microphone. Sound fun? So, there were a couple suggested covers that were sadly vetoed because i simply couldn’t learn them cold quickly enough. But, rest assured it’s still going to be fun, and they’re honest to goodness requests. In thirty minutes. Be there.
Two notes.
One is that i have been sitting on Seams since January, only mentioning a mere verse or two on the blog. It’s a hard song to play and a challenging song to sing, and it still definitely has a ways to go before i’ll play it anywhere in public. Although it represents a much bleaker point in my life (take a listen to the lyrics), i’m just really happy that i was finally able to present it in a way that i would want to be heard.
The second note is that, for reasons vaguely unknown to me, almost everything from 4pm forward sounds better with headphones on. I suspect that it’s due to mixing it slightly in stereo, but my low-high-end speakers are definitely not doing some of the mixing much justice.
Blogathon: 20/24 – Seams
I just had my first “hmm, when is it exactly that i get to go to sleep?” moment. Perhaps it’s time for another cold shower. And then some strawberry-cheesecake ice-cream… mmmm… nothing like cramming an entire piece of cheesecake into an already full pint of ice cream to really make me salivate.
