Songs come from nuggets, moments, tiny subdivisions of time. Some of my favorite songs were written about a single moment of inebriation or a single flurry of kisses. “What It Is” was written based on a single ten minute argument. Tangling was based on a feeling in the pit of my stomach as someone talked right past me. I doubt that she meant to, and it was only for a moment, but in that moment my perspective of the conversation flattened down just to the relationship between the two of us, and then expanded to make that relationship out to be more important than it ever really was. But all it took was that one second of my stomach twisting itself into knots, and i had a song.
Oh dear lord, Shea went and posted me on Metafilter. It’s funny, because when i saw the thread earlier this evening i had this premonition that i would be involved even though i declined to participate in the first one and very rarely post on MF. Yet, there i am. So, if you clicked thru: hi.
Blogathon: 23/24 – Tangling
As far as i have seen Blistered Avalon is far and away one of the best blogs on the ‘thon today. Not only does it have a gimmick (posting photographs from a collection of antique African artifacts), but inbetween the shtickiness there are some really fabulous posts that i’m just now getting the chance to read. I actually reached into my (deeply wounded due to equipment purchases) wallet to donate to the charity Avalon supports. So, i challenge you to find a blog that has really been impressing you even at this late hour and donate something to their cause… even $5 makes a big difference at a lot of the charities being promoted today.
