I think that it is fair to say that the Blogathon has wholly taken over my life.

The first year my friends vaguely knew that i was going to spend an entire day staying awake in front of my computer, but not too much else. Year two i managed to whip my roommates into a frothy frenzy over the event, but most other people i know were still quizzical. However, this year, everyone knows… everyone. My being a part of the official Blogathon team certainly didn’t hurt. Yesterday at work i spent nearly an hour describing the event to the entire department. I have a catering committee set up to handle the people that will start to arrive this afternoon to join in on the action. I have two actual bands who donated songs to be used so that i can take a breather hour.

Somehow getting everyone else so frantic and excited about the event has allowed me to be calm. I woke up ten minutes before the start time, unalarmed, and recoded all of my PHP includes. No butterflies. Not even a touch. I have already proven that I can do this; this year we’re just going to see how much fun i can have while doing it.

For the Third Annual Blogathon Crushing Krisis will be continuing it’s proud tradition of posting a newly recorded song at the top of every hour.

I am an aspiring singer-songwriter without a lot of time on my hands. As a full time college student who is obsessed with staying on the Dean’s List, i hardly ever find the time to take my music to the streets or into clubs and bars. However, i endeavor to find time to record and upload a live concert to my blog, which i call Trio, every few weeks. Trio not only keeps me practicing, but it also allows me an opportunity to debut new songs, practice older tunes, and expand my catalog with a bevy of interesting covers.

In 2001 i decided that rather than just blog for Blogathon, i would make it an extension of Trio — without much practice or preparation i would record a new song for every hour of the event. This wound lead to an astonishing twenty five new original and cover tunes (sometimes a few more) over the course of a single day!

The first annual Blogathon wound up featuring an astonishing total of 54 songs in 24 hours, all performed solo by me or with my longtime collaborator Gina. Last year i expanded the scope of the event, purchasing a digital mixer to improve my sound quality and having everyone join in the fray — the results of that can still be heard (mp3s only).

This year i have taken a further step and removed myself from the center of the stage. For the third annual Blogathon there are more collaborations than originals, and as many covers as solo songs. At first the idea of it seemed as though it was watering down my own content and intent, but now that i’m here i see that the end product is a much better representation of what i like music to sound like. Through collaborating with other performers and interpreting other songwriters, i ultimately got to exercise a finer control over the end product than i ever could just with my own words, voice, and guitar.

And, with a dozen of your friends clamoring to get in on the action, the whole event becomes a lot more fun.
