I keep putting off my initial trip into the studio, but as a result i have forced myself to commit to a roster of 40 songs to make my attempts from. It’s just too damned hot. Of course, the more i procrastinate the more this is going to involve sick days and barricaded studio doors, so i should probably be producing some sounds this week. The first cover for the project has been confirmed, but it might only wind up a beeside. 25 songs + beesides… i’m turning into Tori Amos. All of my friends have heard about this and they seem generally unimpressed, which just goes to show that i am so musically omnipresent that they just assume recording two albums in one month must be old hat for me by now. Ha!

I called MANNA and got their donation address and pasted it into the donation page, and i should be officially listed on FryKitty’s Blog-A-Thon page by midnight tonight. So far i’ve sponsored Rabi’s Wockerjabby (Mr. Holland’s Opus) and Danica’s Billowing (RAINN), but i’m quite sure i’ll be sinking $150+ into this whole ordeal between donating and buying supplies for my recording.

Meanwhile, i’d like to put out an open call to anyone in the Philadelphia area who may be reading and would like to contribute to the project. I’ll be in the studio on varying days and hours, so whether you want to add some harmony, trumpet, or just some hand claps, i’m willing to include anything anyone has to offer, so just drop me a line!

Because i am indecisive, and because i enjoy making work for myself, i have a huge database set up with all of the songs from the link at the top of this page and a tidy numerical ranking system which will average out my song-liking whims over the course of the next week to give me an idea of what deserves to be recorded. It weighs my somewhat objective view of each song’s merits against my subjective want to play them, and today these are the top ten results it produced: Up + Down, Over You, Give, Icy Cold, Unstrung, All That’s True, Splinter, Necessary Evil, Nothing To Say, Atlas Girl. That might not mean anything to you, so let me give you some background information:

Up + Down, Over You, Unstrung, Necessary Evil, and Splinter are the majority of my newest songs, and so i am overwhelmingly in love with them i and i want to record them while they’re fresh. I was having a very dry spell that was months long up until Splinter popped out of my mouth without any warning, and since then i have been actively writing and rewriting what amounts to an album of all-new material. Give is a song from my Freshman Year Demo (Other Plans) that i probably should have rerecorded for Relief this Spring. Icy Cold and Nothing To Say were the two alternate songs for Relief that i never recorded in the studio despite liking them very much. Atlas Girl is a song i wrote and played twice nearly two years ago, and then totally forgot about. When i began conceptualizing this event i found it in the back of my old poetry book and recalled its chords in less than a minute; now i am quite smitten with it. So, as of today those would be 10 songs sure to be heard during this little event, but they might not make it through the decision process, and then recording, and then mastering, and then posting. More peeks at potential songs in the weeks to come. But, for now, g’nite!

So, here i am on blogger again, huh? I suppose it bears some explaining… i am still having issues with Blogger and my page, but when it comes to quickly and painlessly setting up a posting service for an updates page like this, Blogger is the way to go. I wanted to keep these updates as well as my entire feature separate from my log because the angst and drama of my life only has as much to do with this as i manifest through the music.

This could all wind up a horrible failure. I might only finish recording 5 songs, or i might be exhausted the day of the event. That’s why you don’t send your checks to MANNA until after this whole ordeal is over. However, i think it’s worth the chance and the effort on my part: i get 25+ songs recorded, you get to hear them, and we both get the satisfaction of knowing it was done for MANNA. (At this point MANNA has no idea of what’s going on… i figure i’ll wait to tell them until i have a respectable amount of songs done as well as a respectable amount of sponsors.)

So, is this going to be a splash, or just a puddle? I hardly even know. Stick around to find out, i suppose.

The very basics of the page interface seem to be working, though my layout is pretty much non-existant. But, at least the PHP is working correctly. Now i’ve just got to find the time to record 25 songs…
