blargh. life crept up and smacked me today, since we’re headed into midterm week. in slightly better news, i had my massive madonna review published in the triangle this week. in slightly worse news, last night i played an open mic where i thoroughly slaughtered the main staples of my cache of favourite songs. in order: “inadequacy song” (aborted), “under my skin,” “deadweight,” lucky star,” “never say goodbye,” a short break, “gravel,” “punk,” & “a long time since.” all can be found in the trio archive. “never say goodbye” and “punk” went over especially well.

If i don’t get my Madonna cd back from lending soon, i think I’m With Stupid might totally erase it from my memory. So, yay for more good music! I’ve got to decide what to review for next week’s newspaper; probably Juliana Hatfield’s Beautiful Creature as well as Music.

A whopping 1 submission for a suggestion cover song and a reason to register with .Nu (or not). The suggested cover was “Vogue,” which i’ve been working on for months, but i can’t quite find a way to play. To do “vogue” would require a whole rewrite, moreso than “Lucky Star”, and i keep trying, but it’s elusive. The chords are very strange, and those big chunky piano chords in the chours are wierd in any key or tuning. So, a valiant try, but not quite. Anyway, it’s someone i already promised to host :P The offer still stands: choose a cover song for tonite’s Trio and give me an answer to my .Nu dilemma, and i’ll give you your own subdomain at my new site if both answers aid me.

Erotica is the only original Madonna album i’ve never owned. It represents the break between tapes and compact discs in my collection, and was also a bit inappropriate for me at the time. So, the only Madonna songs i don’t know at all are found on that disc. Someone please buy it for me. Thank you.

Madonna: Yeah, there is! What did you listen to? The cowboy hat represents a real kind of iconography — it’s one with nature and animals and all-American, and I think it’s an ironic twist when you consider how much synthesizer there is on the album.
