Every Missing Robin, Red Hood, & Nightwing Omnibus, Mapped | 2025 Tigereyes Most Wanted DC Omnibus Poll

May 15, 2025 by krisis Leave a Comment

Most Wanted DC Omnibus - Batman Family Robin & Nightwing Omnibus MappingIt’s time to map the DC Universe! In June, I’ll be joining with Near Mint Condition to launch the Tigereyes Most Wanted DC Omnibus 2nd Annual Poll! This post explains every Robin, Red Hood, & Nightwing omnibus that does NOT exist – all of which will appear as options on the 2025 poll.

Through the end of May I’ll be covering DC entire publishing history by mapping missing omnibus volumes to fill in every gap in your DC oversize shelf! That’s all leading to the kickoff of the Tigereyes Most Wanted DC Omnibus 2nd Annual Poll on Near Mint Condition the first week of June.

When it comes to Batman’s sons, only one of them has had a good year in omnibus – Dick Grayson AKA Nightwing. Yet, even with a pair of Rebirth era omnis out for Dick this year, all of his pre-Flashpoint material remains uncollected in everyone’s favorite oversize format save for one Bronze Age volume as Robin.

Meanwhile, Tim Drake and Damian Wayne have no solo omnis to show for themselves, and Jason Todd as Red Hood has just one (which was reprinted this year, so maybe DC is teeing up for a second one)!

If you want to see Batman’s boys in oversize format, you need to vote for their books!

If you’re not sure of what to vote for, stick around for a list of books vetted by a gang of the biggest mapping nerds on the internet with explanations from yours truly – keeper of the most-definitive guides to collected editions on the planet.

Or, if you don’t care about omnibuses, just use this post to learn about DC history and find some great comics to read!

This post covers the following speculated omnibus volumes:

  • Nightwing Omnibus Mapping
    • Batman Family Year One by Chuck Dixon & Scott Beatty (2000 – 2005) [Robin, Batgirl, & Nightwing]
    • Nightwing by Chuck Dixon Vol. 1 (of 2) (1995 – 1999)
    • Nightwing by Devin Grayson (2002 – 2006) [follows Dixon]
    • Nightwing by Jones, Wolfman, Tomasi, et al (2006 – 2009) [fits prior to DickBat]
    • Batman: Dick Grayson, Batman (2008 – 2010) [AKA Batman by Morrison Companion, Vol. 2]
  • Robin Omnibus Mapping
    • Robin: The Golden Age Omnibus (1947 & on)
    • Robin: Tim Drake Vol. 1 (1991 & on)
    • Robin: Tim Drake, Red Robin by Yost & Nicieza (2009 – 2011)
    • Robin: Damian Wayne, Son of Batman & We Are Robin (2015 – 2016)
    • Batman & Robin by Joshua Williamson (2021 – 2024) [fits after Tynion, plus Robin (2021)]
  • Red Hood Omnibus Mapping
    • Red Hood and the Outlaws, Vol. 2 – New 52 & Rebirth (2014 – 2018) [includes Red Hood / Arsenal]
    • Red Hood: Outlaw, The Rebirth Omnibus (2018 – 2021)

Remember: These titles and mappings are a suggestion of how DC could assemble these books. Your vote on the poll is a vote in favor of DC creating a book with that title or covering that period, NOT an endorsement of a specific map. Maps are presented as a proof of concept and to help you build your personal reading list.

Intensely researched posts like this one are made possible via the support of Patrons of Crushing Krisis. Dick Grayson, Nightwing Omnibus Mapping

2025 has been the best year ever for Nightwing omnibuses, with two of his four Rebirth volumes hitting shelves in April and July. However, DC has remained shy about publishing any Pre-Flashpoint Nightwing material. It would only take four books to cover, but right now DC is doing that in Compendium format rather than in omnibus! Your votes could signal to DC that it’s time to gather that material into a hardcover format. See the Guide to Nightwing for how this material is already collected.

Batman Family Year One by Chuck Dixon & Scott Beatty (2000 – 2005) [Robin, Batgirl, & Nightwing]

While this isn’t the first Nightwing omnibus in publishing order, it is in story continuity – and, it’s brand new on the poll this year.

I’ve seen some excellent maps that would collect a wider amount of “Year One” stories from the Batman family, but many of them heavily double-dip from a potential Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight omnibus. By contrast, this book only slightly double-dips a potential Nightwing omnibus while picking up a pair of series that don’t necessarily fit elsewhere.

Despite that, this is pretty slim. Ultimately, it could get folded into Chuck Dixon’s Nightwing line or expanded with more Year One material. I’m curious to see how this fares on the poll this year and if it seems like we should continue listing it in the future.

This would collect all three of Chuck Dixon’s “Year One” stories from Robin: Year One (2000) #1-4, Batgirl: Year One (2002) #1-9, Nightwing (1995) #101-106 (published in 2005).

Nightwing by Chuck Dixon Vol. 1 (of 2) (1995 – 1999)

Chuck Dixon was the solo author of Nightwing for the first seven years of his ongoing series. This has been collected thoroughly in paperback across recollections and a compendium, but it still needs a pair of Nightwing omnibuses!

This is one instance where I don’t think omnibus mapping would necessarily follow Compendium mapping.

Right now a pair of Compendiums of this material has only reached issue #59 in two volumes that are 1024 and 1112 pages, respectively. However, if we’re simply trying to get to the end of Chuck Dixon’s run so there’s a clean break before Devin Grayson’s material, we only need another 11 regular issues, Nightwing: Our Worlds at War (2001) #1, and maybe Robin (1993) #95. Plus, an omnibus might skip Nightwing (1995) #65-66 & 68-69 entirely, since they are all part of Batman: Bruce Wayne – Murderer/Fugitive (and are in that omnibus).

As a result, I’m confident in saying this omnibus would depart from the Compendium mapping to break the following issues exactly in half.

This pair of volumes would split Nightwing (1995) #1-4; Nightwing (1996) #1-70 (maybe omitting #65-66 & 68-69), One Million, & Annual 1; Wizard Presents: Nightwing #1/2; Nightwing and Huntress (1998) #1-4; Nightwing Secret Files (1999) #1; Nightwing 80-Page Giant (2000) #1; Nightwing: Our Worlds at War (2001) #1; Nightwing: The Target (2001) OGN SC; and crossovers and guest appearances from Green Arrow (1988) #134-135; Robin (1993) #55 (and maybe #95); Detective Comics (1937) #723-725 & One Million, Action Comics (1938) #771, Birds of Prey (1999) #8 & 20-21, Batman (1940) Annual 23.

Nightwing by Devin Grayson (2002 – 2006) [follows Dixon]

The next chunk of comics that would fill a Nightwing omnibus were written entirely by Devin Grayson (save for one arc by Dixon). This is a run which is adored by fans of the character!

This would collect Nightwing (1996) #71-117 & Annual 2, Batman/Nightwing: Bloodborne (2002) OGN, plus significant guest appearances from the period

Nightwing by Jones, Wolfman, Tomasi, et al (2006 – 2009) [fits prior to DickBat]

We’d need a fourth Nightwing pmnibus from his 1995 ongoing series, which sees him through his transition to the role of Batman under the pen of Grant Morrison!

This would collect Nightwing (1996) #118-153, Nightwing/Boomerang (2007) #1, and Batman: Battle for the Cowl (2009) #1-3. It would also likely make sense for it collect some of his appearances in 52 (2006) and Trinity (2008) (which both fit before issue #118) and material from Batman Allies Secret Files and Origins 2005 (2005) #1, “The Resurrection of Ra’s al Ghul,” and more of “Battle for the Cowl.”

Batman: Dick Grayson, Batman (2008 – 2010) [AKA Batman by Morrison Companion, Vol. 2]

This volume would collect all of Dick Grayson’s adventures as Batman that occurred to the side of the main Grant Morrison run.

This would begin with Batman: Battle of the Cowl (Batman: Battle for the Cowl (2009) #1-3, Gotham Gazette (2009) #1, and Gotham Gazette: Batman Alive? (2009) #1) and companion material (Arkham Asylum (2009) #1, Commissioner Gordon (2009) #1, Man-Bat (2009) #1, The Network (2009) #1, The Underground (2009) #1).

Then, it would primarily collect the Grayson Batman material simultaneous to Morrison’s run from Batman (1940) #684-699 and Detective Comics (1937) #851-853.

To that, it could also add the “Azrael: Death’s Dark Knight” story (Azrael: Death’s Dark Knight (2009) #1-3, Batman (1940) Annual 27, Detective Comics (1937) Annual 11).

Here you would read Batman by Grant Morrison Vol. 2, Nightwing: The Prince of Gotham, Grayson: The Superspy, and Nightwing: Rebirth [by Seeley & Humphries].

Nightwing: Rebirth Vol. 2 by Percy & Jurgens (2018 – 2020) [fits before Taylor]

This era starts Dick Grayson’s status quo being rocked by the events of Batman (2016) #55. That marked a major change for Nightwing that carried over to his own title through a brief Scott Lobdell run and a longer run by Dan Jurgens.

This would collect Nightwing (2016) #50-77 & Annual 2-3, plus Batman (2016) #55.

Nightwing by Tom Taylor & Bruno Redondo Vol. 1 fits here.

Nightwing by Tom Taylor & Bruno Redondo Vol. 2 (2023 – 2024)

Tom Taylor’s run on Nightwing with artist Bruno Redondo and colorist Adriano Lucas was a massive hit – a fan-favorite run that garnered an Eisner award for Best Continuing Series in 2023. DC made the curious choice to collect only the first half of it into a single sub-800 page omnibus out in a few months.

That leaves us a curiously brief run still to collect. Could it be possible DC is planning to include some or all of Tom Taylor’s run on Titans (2023) in this book as well? Or, will it really be even shorter than the first omnibus?

This would collect Nightwing (2011) #101-118, Annual 2/2022, & Annual 3/2024.

Robin Omnibus Mapping

There have been many Robins – Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, & Damian Wayne.

However, when it comes to solo material, there’s nothing to collect from Jason and Stephanie’s brief runs as Batman’s sidekick. Dick Grayson’s solo Robin material is already covered thoroughly from the Bronze Age and onward. And, much of Damian’s material either is in duo books with Batman or Jon Kent, or with Teen Titans.

What’s left to collect from the Boy Wonder going it solo? Let’s take a look – and, check out the Guide to Robin(s) to see how this material is already collected.

Robin: The Golden Age Omnibus (1947 & on)

This would mirror two volumes of Robin Archives to collect his solo material from the Golden Age.

This would collect Robin’s solo stories from Star Spangled Comics (1941) #65-130. These stories were almost always 10 pages plus cover, so these 66 issues would be 726 pages of material – the perfect size for a Golden Age omnibus! That wrapped up in 1952. There might be some other minor Robin solo stories out there prior to the beginning of the Silver Age, or significant Robin-focused issues of World’s Finest Comics (1941).

Robin: The Bronze Age Omnibus fits here, as well as Dick Grayson’s time in Teen Titans as Robin.

Robin: Tim Drake Vol. 1 (1991 & on)

Tim Drake was the longest-running modern Robin, and he’ll continue to hold that title over Damian Wayne for a few more years. Tim was Robin late in 1990 to 2009 when he became Red Robin – and he starred in solo material for almost every month in that 19-year period!

This would collect starting from Tim’s initial appearances two years prior to his ongoing series, mirroring the start of his compendium line. This is a massive run that would take four or more omnibuses to collect!

This would begin by mirroring a 2024 Compendium, collecting Batman (1940) #455-457, 465-469, & 480, Detective Comics (1937) #618-621, Robin (1991) #1-5, Robin II: The Joker’s Wild! (1991) #1-4, Robin III: Cry of the Huntress (1992) #1-6, Robin (1993) #1-5 & Annual 1-2, Superman (1987) #70, Superman: The Man of Steel (1991) #14, and stories from Batman 80-Page Giant #2 and Showcase ’93 #1-6 & 11-12.

That might be as much as we could fit in an initial omnibus! But, this line would continue to collect Robin (1993) #6-83 , One Million, Annual 3-7, the “War of the Dragons” crossover (with Detective Comics (1937) #685-686), the “Troika” crossover (with Batman (1940) #515, Batman: Shadow of the Bat (1992) #35, Detective Comics (1937) #682), a crossover with Nightwing (1995) #23, the “World Without Young Justice” crossover (with Impulse (1995) #85, Superboy (1994) #99, Young Justice (1998) #44-45), a crossover with Batgirl (2000) #58-59, Teen Titans (2003) #29-33, the “The Resurrection of Ra’s al Ghul” crossover – very much a Tim Drake story (with Batman (1940) #670-671 & Annual 26, Detective Comics (1937) #838-839, Nightwing (1996) #138-139), Superboy/Robin: World’s Finest Three (1996) #1-2, Robin Plus (1996) #1-2, Robin/Argent Double-Shot (1998) #1, Sins of Youth: Batboy & Robin (2000) #1, Robin 80-Page Giant (2000) #1, Robin/Spoiler Special (2008) #1, and material from Showcase ’94 #5-6.

Robin: Tim Drake, Red Robin by Yost & Nicieza (2009 – 2011)

Damian Wayne took over as Robin in 2009 and he did it by force – thoroughly trouncing the older and more experienced Tim Drake in an initial confrontation. Having mostly left behind his sidekick life already and feeling abandoned by Bruce, Tim made the switch to being known as “Red Robin.”

This would collect Red Robin (2009) #1-26, Batgirl (2009) #8, Bruce Wayne: The Road Home: Red Robin (2010) #1, Teen Titans (2003) #92, but would likely skip “Gotham Will be Judged” tie-ins.

Robin: Damian Wayne, Son of Batman & We Are Robin (2015 – 2016)

This would collect the “Son of Batman” run by Patrick Gleason that is already in a Deluxe oversize hardcover, but pad it out with We Are Robin (2015) and all of the “Robin War” crossover between the two titles.

This would collect Robin: Son of Batman (2015) #1-13, Robin War (2016) #1-2, We Are Robin (2015) #1-12, and “Robin War” crossover issues (Detective Comics (2011) #47, Gotham Academy (2014) #13, Grayson (2014) #15, Red Hood/Arsenal (2015) #7, Robin War (2016) #1-2, Robin: Son of Batman (2015) #7, Teen Titans (2014) #15).

It’s also tempting to add Robins (2021) #1-6 to the end of this, but that is from after Rebirth and likely belongs in the next book.

Batman & Robin by Joshua Williamson (2021 – 2024) [fits after Tynion, plus Robin (2021)]

After Rebirth, Damian Wayne had a multi-series, multi-year run by Joshua Williamson that started with a tournament fight to the (multiple) death on Lazarus Island and continued through him going to war with Bruce before they finally teamed up again for the first time in years of comics.

This would collect Batman (2016) #106 (“Demon or Detective”” back-up), Detective Comics (1937) #1034 (“”Demon or Detective”” back-up), Robin (2021) #1-17, Batman (2016) #118-124 & Annual 7/2022, all of the “Shadow War” crossover (Shadow War: Alpha (2022) #1, Batman (2016) #122-123, Deathstroke Inc. (2021) #8-9, Robin (2021) #13-14, Shadow War Zone (2022) #1, and Shadow War: Omega (2022) #1), and Batman and Robin (2023) #1-13.

It also might be nice for this to include Robins (2021) #1-6 (which will otherwise become abandoned) and Batman vs. Robin (2022) #1-5 (which is by Mark Waid but spins directly out of “”Shadow War””)”

However, I’d suggest it also push forward to include Robins (2021) #1-6 and Batman vs. Robin (2022) #1-5.

Red Hood Omnibus Mapping

Red Hood and the Outlaws, Vol. 2 – New 52 & Rebirth (2014 – 2018) [includes Red Hood / Arsenal]

The existing Red Hood and the Outlaws omnibus only collects the first 27 issues of the New 52 title! That orphaned the final year of the omnibus without a home. Also, that “Outlaws” style of the book focusing on a trio of characters continued into Rebirth – so it could make sense to collect all of that in a single volume.

This would collect Red Hood and the Outlaws (2011) #28-40 & Annual 1-2, Red Hood and the Outlaws: Futures End (2014) #1, Teen Titans (2014) #15-17, material from DC Universe Presents (2011) #17-18, material from Secret Origins (2014) #2 & 5, and then Red Hood / Arsenal (2015) #1-13, and Red Hood and the Outlaws (2016) Rebirth, #1-26, & Annual 1.

That would be a mega-sized omnibus of over 50 issues! But, since it all has a similar tone and much of it is written by Scott Lobdell, I think it makes sense to collect all in one place.

Red Hood: Outlaw, The Rebirth Omnibus (2018 – 2021)

This would collect the more solo-focused end run of Red Hood’s Rebirth title, plus the subsequent “The Hill” series which concludes some of its open plot threads from the final two issues in 2021 by Shawn Martinbrough.

This would collect Red Hood: Outlaw (2018) #27-50 & Annual 2-3, Red Hood (2021) #51-52, and Red Hood: The Hill (2024) #1-6.
