Today is boring. I finished my paperwork, i don’t have to give a tour, and i don’t have an overnight until tomorrow. Very tame. So, i’m just sitting here eating truck-lunch and having my daily chat with Gina. I let out such a loud scream when she showed up at the shop-call last night that our director thought i lost a finger to our table saw. We’re playing an open mic this Friday, so if you’re a Drexelite, make sure to show up in the Creese Cafe around 6:30 to see us. God, i’m really fucking boring. Um… insert something about sex [here]. There ya go. That was pretty raunchy.

Gina just called me a “hopeless romantic” … that’s hopeful romantic, damnit! Why do we call them hopeless romantics? I think the connotation is that their romanticism is hopelessly unstoppable, and that they’re never going to change. But, did you ever think of it the other way? What if hopeless romantics are just romantics without a hope? What if they’re just always just setting themselves up for failure, and so lack any chance of ever just being “romantic” without any adverbs to modify it? Anyhow, Gina is either right or wrong depending on the definition … either i’m hopelessly romantic and she’s write, or i’m a very hopefilled romantic and she’s wrong. It’s a 50/50 shot, Gina.

(and now, for the requisite pining romantic post of the AM). And, of course, now that i’m worth responding to and all that, when i theoretically should be interested in getting other people interested in me, i miss Selina. Of course, my friends mostly seem to think i shouldn’t ever get back together with her, and most of her friends tell her she can find someone better for her than me, but that’s what friends are for: saying things. Of course, if enough of them say the same thing you start believing them, which is why they say all of those things to begin with. In a way i just miss her, because i’ve never gone this long without seeing her or hearing her voice, but of course there’re other perspectives too. The more and more i tell people i don’t want to be dating my first girlfriend one or two years from now the less and less i believe it.

Gina told me today that her and Joey didn’t have an especially easy first few months, and that she endlessly pestered him while he was entirely laid back. They just had their three year anniversary. She said “look, i’m not going to tell you that if you wait through stuff now everything will be perfect for you in three years, but if you find someone you’d still like to be with in three years you need to sit it out.”

That’s why they call them Best Friends: they give the best advice. I knew there was a reason i always mean to talk to Gina more often…

So, first you take a bunch of high school friends and put them in an apartment four three hours with 7 electrical musical instruments, and then you take most of those same high school friends and give them a largish bottle of vodka, several gallons of orange juice, and their favourite Simpsons episode of this season (around which they construct a drinking game). Then, take the only two that are vaguely drunk, put them in a car with the totally sober one, and send them deep deep into the suburbs to go bowling. Yes, bowling. And, that, my dear reader, is how to have a fun Sunday during spring break..

It’s funny, because we do sorta resemble 90210. Gina, Joey, Justin, Matt, and I (and Ariel just down the street at Penn). We all were friends throughout highschool, and we all unwittingly wound up at the same college. Some characters left the ensemble, and a few new ones joined. Matt fell away from the core cast but then roommate Matt was brought in as a replacement. The plots suddenly stopped just being about the four of us and expanded to include a cast of new characters with new quirks and problems that were never even touched on in highschool. Now Justin has decided to leave the show, and he’s being written out at the end of the season by transferring to another school. I don’t know how we’re ever going to find a replacement for him. And, we had finally signed a girl to play opposite of me who had the right chemistry, but she’s going on hiatus for a few weeks as the end of her plot gets worked out. And, for sweeps week we’re sending the beloved Laurel away to Europe so that all those Neilson bastards will shed a tear. And my character is still as charmed as ever, even after miserably failing half of his classes this semester. Because, some things always stay the same.

90210 had to end eventually, though, even after they managed to bring back some old favourites. It really hurt to see it go for a lot of viewers, because the show kept on evolving but all of the characters stayed the same despite years and years of experience. But, i never really liked that show. I bet the last episode would’ve gotten a tear out of me, though.
