Extreme Best Memorial Day Weekend Ever Extreme Recap

June 1, 2010 by krisis

As it turns out, jumping out of a plane seems a lot more insane the second time.

That was the thought going through my head on Sunday morning around 9:30 a.m. as our tiny, 12-person plane ascended into a cloudless blue sky, prepared to dump Arcati Crisis and some of our core of friends out of its side.

The first time skydiving was a purely a concept – mysterious in its execution. This time the open door of the plane winked at me conspiratorially as I sat two inches from its maw. I was going to exit that door into nothing.

Why was I doing this again?

In fact, skydiving was not the most insane aspect of our extreme band weekend. That title is easily awarded to our tubing experience.

Or, really, the experience of trying to depart our tubing experience without being murdered, dragged to death behind a car, dying of exposure, or starting a forest fire.

Blogger is dumb. I ought to start keeping a blogger is dumb tally somewhere of the number of estimated words that it’s eaten. This time i just pressed ‘esc’ with a stray finger and it cleared the blog box. Whatever, we all know it’s got dumb flaws. Better than using live journal, i suppose.

Anyhow, the relevant part of my post was about heat. Heat is such a relative concept… right now there is a heat index of 108 firmly in place for my walk home. So, i’m sure i’ll be hot. But, really, heat isn’t something i especially notice unless it’s pointed out to me. This morning i gave my typical walking backwards tour for an entire hour to a huge group and when i got back i was informed that i was feeling 110 degrees of heat for the entire tour, when in my head i think i figured it was 86 or 92 or some other acceptable test-score number. Really, the difference between my perception and the reality was the same as the difference between 70 and 90, and i’m sure i could tell the difference between those two.

It’s nearly 90 degrees outside even though it’s nighttime, and i’m in the PuppetMaster wrapup chat being a huge whore and i think i might be naked on the webcam right now because my new hair looks much better on me when i’m naked, but, um, yeah, i’m busy. Nevermind. Oh, and, Ashley won PM, and it’s been a bitch not linking to her because i’ve been reading her all month. Hi Ashley. You’re witty and hot!

The concert countdown is now officially underway! Seven and a half hours and counting until Gina and I take the stage awash in fame and record high temperatures. Am i nervous? Possibly; i’ve basically invited everyone i know to come see us play this tiny acoustic set of songs and we’re playing in the midst of some Drexel bands who i’m a minor-league fan of. And we’ve never done harmony on “Punk,” “Under My Skin,” “Never Say Goodbye,” or “A Perfect Day” live before. But, no reason to be alarmed – after all, part of the charm of acoustic musicians is their ability to entangle and then unknot themselves from oddball onstage situations without ever breaking a sweat. Or, at least, they don’t break a sweat from the stress. The heat might get to them, though.

Errr… right. 5:30 today between Market and Chestnut & 33rd and 32nd. 42 demos available for a to-be-decided price. And me pretending i’m a rock star.

The heat really came out of nowhere. We had a few nice days a week or two ago, but last week on my walk to work i encountered temperatures below fourty twice, so i wasn’t exactly packing away my sweatshirts or anything. The weather started to lift on Saturday and was quite springlike by the time Battle of the Bands let out, but yesterday was murder. Almost ninety degrees! And, of course, this would be a day where i’m seriously undernourished and overstressed. Basically, whenever i moved from one place to another it was just momentum and force of will, and when i sat down i sat down for quite a while. I’m not ready for heat, damnit. I don’t even know where my shorts all are…
