Marvel Events Omnibus Mapping for the Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 12th Annual Secret Ballot

For the next two weeks, I’ll be loosely mapping missing and most-wanted Marvel omnibus volumes every day! Today I’ll be looking at all of the omnibuses that don’t yet exist for Marvel’s linewide event comics like Secret Wars, Infinity Gauntlet, Civil War, and more!

The poll options in this category were edited by the excellent Dom of X! I’ve known Dom for several years, but have just recently had the chance to chat with him live on the X-Men Evergreen Omnibus stream, which has been a delight. Working behind the scenes with him to try to identify every missing event book and what it could contain was an extremely fun project.

Marvel has done a strong job of collecting their events into omnibus format over the past 20 years, but there are still several events from the 80s through just last year that have never seen release in oversize hardcover format. Plus, there are several events where the main event was originally released in an oversize hardcover that is long out-of-print, which could be re-issued along with its tie-in issues and companion material.

Marvel Imprints & Alternate Realities Omnibus Mapping for the Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 12th Annual Secret Ballot

This post explains titles and potential Marvel Imprints & Alternate Realities Omnibus Mapping for entries on the Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 12th Annual Secret Ballot. The tricky thing with this category is that Marvel’s Multiverse is infinite, which means there are always more alternate realty books we could uncover and figure out how to summarize for the poll. However, the alternate realities in this post represent the most-popular options from prior years of the poll. If you notice I’ve missed one, please comment!

Those alternate realities include Malibu Ultraverse, Marvel 1602, Marvel MAX, MC2, Ultimate Marvel, the many multiverses of What If, and several others listed below.

While Marvel’s history of publishing imprints isn’t quite so vast, there still have been 60+ sub-lines of Marvel Comics from the 1930s to the present day. Again, we didn’t capture 100% of these Marvel imprints! But, I think we did a good job of catching the biggest imprints that lasted the longest and had the most shared continuity (whether that was just with themselves or with the Marvel Universe as a whole).

Those imprints include Crossgen, Marvel 2099, Marvel UK, and New Universe.

Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 11th Annual Secret Ballot Results & Mappings

This morning I had the absolute pleasure of announcing the results of the Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 11th Annual Secret Ballot with Near Mint Condition!

The Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus Secret Ballot is an annual poll conducted by a mysterious comic book forum user named Tigereyes. The rules are simple: anyone can email Tigereyes up to 10 picks for their most-wanted, never-before-printed omnibuses of material originally printed by Marvel, even if they may no longer own the licensing rights.

Each first vote gets 10 points, each second vote gets 9 points, all the way down to your tenth vote getting just 1 point. After the voting period, Tigereyes goes through the gargantuan effort of tallying up all the votes – which also involves figuring out what everyone meant by their sometimes inconsistently-named or cryptically-described votes.

For me, the reveal of the results of the Tigereyes Secret Ballot is an international comics-loving holiday. I used to be the primary person on the internet creating statistics from the results every year! However, when I attempted to cover the entire poll entry-by-entry in 2017 I stalled out at the halfway point as the results straddled our move to New Zealand.

That’s why it was worth waking up at 4am NZ time to be ready to share this year’s results with my good friends Omar and Jess on the Near Mint Condition channel, thanks to some last-minute planning with Omar over the weekend.

Our show was nearly three hours long as we dug into the potential contents of every book on the list and whether we’d read them or not. As always, I had just as much fun appearing on-camera as I did chatting with all of the wonderful Minties in the live chat!

(Actually, it’s even more than that – there’s one tie, and in several entries I get into mapping second volumes if they would complete a run). This is the second pilot of my “Math & Maps,” series where we dissect how every issue from a character or title has been collected and then figure out the best way to add it to our shelves in omnibus editions. Last time, we tackled X-Factor Mapping. This time, we’re looking at Mapping Cable – Nathan Dayspring Gray Summers – based on my recently-updated Guide to Cable.

To get started with our Cable Math & Maps, let’s look at the current collection standings for all of Cable’s series. This only includes series where he is a title star, but not series like X-Force (1991) and Cable & X-Force (2016) where he’s the leader in a team book.
