New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: Marvel Comics – April 24 2024

April 19, 2024 by krisis

It’s the 17th new comic book day of the new year! This post covers Marvel Comics April 24 2024 releases. Missed last week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering Marvel Comics April 17 2024 new releases.

This week in Marvel Comics: excellent X-Men ’97 synergy, uncollected Avengers West Coast, all of Ahmed’s Ms. Marvel, Blade & GODS both end, Gillen’s X-Men endgame, Darth Maul strikes back, and more!

This list includes every comic and digital comic out from Marvel this week, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats. I recap and review every new single issue. Plus, for every new release, I’ll point you to the right guide within my Crushing Comics Guide to Marvel Comics to find out how to collect each character in full – and, if a guide is linked from this post, that means it is updated through the present day!

Marvel Comics April 24 2024 Collected EditionsAvengers Inc. (2023) Action Mystery Adventure - a Marvel Comics April 24 2024 new release

Avengers Inc.: Action, Mystery, Adventure
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302953393 / digital)
See Guide to Avengers flagship titles (2010 – Present). I’ll always be a bit miffed about how this Al Ewing Avengers series rolled out. It was simply a second arc of his brilliant run on Janet van Dyne as Wasp from earlier in 2023, but with a noir spin. But, a drab noir look does not work on Janet at all – she needs to pop off of every page in bold color. (The book does not look as stylish on the interior as it does on the cover.)

As a result, we got a curiously sombre detective comic without an Avengers team that didn’t make great use of its feature character. It’s actually a fun read, but if you didn’t read (and enjoy) the Wasp series that preceded it I can’t recommend it on its own.

Avengers West Coast Epic Collection Vol. 7: Ultron Unbound
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302956448 / digital)
See Guide to Avengers West Coast. This is a long-awaited Epic Collection, because it finally collects the issues in the #83-91 range of Avengers West Coast! Even if we’re still awaiting a final epic to take us from issue #96 through the end of the title in #102, we’ve had that material in paperback several times over – this book represents our last true collecting gap and means that all of this series will now be present on Marvel Unlimited.

Also, this presses far enough that a final volume can collect the seven issues of #96-102 plus all of the mini-series and errata that ought to be joined with the end of this series, which has always been a collection challenge. In addition to those seven issues there are more than 20 other issues that fully cover the end of this team, and Epic Collections usually top out in the 20-22 issue range. It could include U.S. Agent (1993) #1-4, Avengers: The Terminatrix Objective (1993) #1-4 (which has USAgent and War Machine), all of Blood Ties (Avengers #368-369, X-Men #26, & Uncanny X-Men #307), Spider-Woman (1993) #1-4, Scarlet Witch (1994) #1-4, material from Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #143-144, and possibly also Hawkeye (1994) #1-4 (though this will be in the Hawkeye Epic Line).

I think that leaves us with an interesting question of whether Volume 8 really will conclude this Epic Line (and necessarily skip some of that material – likely Terminatrix Objective and Hawkeye to get down to 23 issues), or if it will simply end with issue #100, with another volume pushing beyond that and onward into the team’s relaunch as Force Works!

Doctor Strange Omnibus Mapping for the Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 12th Annual Secret Ballot

March 31, 2024 by krisis

Until April 5, I’ll be loosely mapping missing and most-wanted Marvel omnibus volumes every day! Today I’ll be starting a brief trip into the mystical side of Marvel by peering into all of the omnibuses that don’t yet exist for Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

Announcing Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 12th Annual Secret Ballot LIVE on Near Mint Condition

This post explains titles and potential Doctor Strange Omnibus Mapping for entries on the Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 12th Annual Secret Ballot. You can vote right now (until 5 April 2024 @ midnight US ET) or watch our mega-length announcement stream reviewing every single voting option.

Doctor Strange has been around since the 60s, but he is a curious case where Marvel has focused most of their omnibus energy into his late-80s and 90s series. They knocked that out in three large volumes, but his original Silver Age line lags – as does his modern material (aside from Jason Aaron’s 2015 run reviving the character)

If you’re not sure of what to vote for, stick around for my explanations. Or, if you’ve already voted, learn why the team behind the poll decided on these books and titles – including some of my mistakes and regrets as one of the editors of the options on the final poll.

Or… just find some great comics to read!

Remember: These mappings are just my suggestion of how Marvel could assemble these books. They are meant to help you decide on your votes and build your personal reading list, but your vote on the poll is NOT an endorsement of my specific map. It’s a vote in favor of Marvel creating a book with that title or covering that period.

Over-the-top comics posts like this one are made possible via the support of Patrons of Crushing Krisis. For less than the cost of a single comic issue a month you can fuel my in-depth comics coverage, plus gain access to dozens of exclusive collecting guides & reading orders – including all of the Crushing Comics Guide to Marvel Comics.

New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: Marvel Comics – April 3 2024

March 28, 2024 by krisis

It’s the 14th new comic book day of the new year! This post covers Marvel Comics April 3 2024 releases. Missed last week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering Marvel Comics March 27 2024 new releases.

This week in Marvel Comics: new (and old) Deadpool, a hunk of Spider-Man 2099, the earliest X-Men Epic, Avengers join the Fall of X, She-Hulk’s space date, Thor fights his stories, the continuing trial of Lando, and more!

This list includes every comic and digital comic out from Marvel this week, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats. For each new release, I’ll point you to the right guide within my Crushing Comics Guide to Marvel Comics to find out how to collect each character in full – and, if a guide is linked from this post, that means it is updated through the present day!

Marvel Comics April 3 2024 Collected EditionsDaredevil Epic Collection Vol. 7 - The Concrete Jungle, released by Marvel Comics April 3 2024

Alien by Shalvey & Broccardo Vol. 2: Descendant (2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302952303 / digital)
See Guide to Aliens comics. This collects a second Declan Shalvey Alien mini-series, which is a direct sequel to his first earlier in 2023. You don’t have to read the first series to understand this one, but if you don’t it comes off as a very plain “person uses xenomorphs to get revenge” story. Even read together, for me this isn’t must-read Alien material.

Daredevil Epic Collection Vol. 7: The Concrete Jungle
(2024 paperback, ISBN ‎ 978-1302955175 / digital)
See Guide to Daredevil. This is the second of two Epic Collections bridging the gap between the Black Widow / San Francisco period of this title and the start of Frank Miller’s run, which will occur a few issues into the next collection.

Deadpool: Badder Blood
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302911232 / digital)
See Guide to Deadpool. This is a continuity-lite (if at all) sequel to Liefeld’s execrable 2023 OGN.

Deadpool: The Saga of Wade Wilson
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302958121 / digital)
See Guide to Deadpool. This is actually a solid primer on 90s-style Deadpool, collecting some key issues of his original 1997 series.

Ghost Rider Omnibus by Jason Aaron
(2024 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302957599 / digital)
See Guide to Ghost Rider. I am truly shocked to see this slim, partial collection of Ghost Rider (2006) reprinted verbatim after 14 years. It would have been so easy for Marvel to re-issue this book also containing the first 19 issues of this run, written by Daniel Way. If there was enough demand for an Aaron omnibus, certainly there was equally as much demand for an omnibus twice the length by the both authors.

Spider-Man 2099 Omnibus Vol. 2
(2024 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302953836 / digital)
See Guide to Spider-Man 2099. This is a Volume 2 you can pick up and read all on its own! It collects Peter David’s mid-2010s return to Spider-Man 2099, which saw him adventuring both in the present day and back in his future. This is a substantial and self-contained run that is a perfect read for you if you enjoyed Miguel O’Hara in the Spider-Verse movie and want to know more. X-Men: From The Ashes – The Definitive Collecting Guide & Reading Order

Updated May 8, 2025! The definitive, chronological, and up-to-date guide on collecting X-Men: From the Ashes, including X-Men flagship titles by Gail Simone, Jed McKay, Eve Ewing, and more in comic books via omnibuses, hardcovers, and trade paperback graphic novels. A part of Crushing Krisis’s Crushing Comics. Last updated May 2025 with titles scheduled for release through January 2026.

X-Men: From the Ashes - Ryan Stegman teaserIn March 2024 Marvel Comics answered the question of how the X-Men line will move on from The Age of Krakoa with the announcement of X-Men: From the Ashes.

Editor Tom Brevoort introduced the From the Ashes era by saying, “The X-Men are fractured in the aftermath of the end of Krakoa, scattered across the globe without a central base of operation. What that means in practice is that all three titles carrying the name X-MEN are core X-MEN series—they all center around one of the major aspects of what the team has been about at different points. This is very much by design. We want to field a wide assortment of X-titles with different styles and tones and approaches, an X-MEN book for virtually any taste.”

This new era of X-Men comics launched in July 2024 with three co-flagship books all with “X-Men” in the title, as well as three further team books (NYX, X-Factor, X-Force) and three solo titles (Phoenix, Storm, Wolverine). Those nine books quickly expanded with a trio of mini-series (Dazzler, Mystique, Sentinels) and a second wave of solo book announcements (Laura Kinney – Wolverine, Psylocke, Magik).

This era is marked by a “play the hits” approach to X-Men that gets them back to being hated and feared and eschews as much of the complex character work and morally gray approach of Krakoa as possible. The line is almost universally designed to call back to existing runs and concepts, with only Storm offering a truly original vision out of the initial 12 comics in the line. In particular, NYX is particular reverent of developments from Krakoa.

This guide will be regularly updated as issues are released and new titles are announced.

New Comics & Collected Editions: Marvel Comics – March 20 2024

March 14, 2024 by krisis

It’s the 12th new comic book day of the new year! This post covers Marvel Comics March 20 2024 releases. Missed last week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering Marvel Comics March 13 2024 new releases.

This week in Marvel Comics: Franklin Richards’ secret revealed, Gillen’s final X-book, Spider-Woman old and new, repackaged collected editions, and more!

Marvel Comics March 20 2024 Collected EditionsAstonishing X-Men (2004 Modern Era Epic Collection Vol. 1: Gifted, released by Marvel Comics March 20 2024

Astonishing X-Men Modern Era Epic Collection, Vol. 1: Gifted
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302957971 / digital)
See Guide to Astonishing X-Men. On one hand, I’m all for any recollection of the brilliant first two arcs of this title, which should always been easily accessible to new readers. On the other hand, this is an exact copy of a prior Ultimate/Complete collection, which bums me out because it would be cool to see an Epic line of this title include some or all of Kitty Pryde: Shadow & Flame, Phoenix: Endsong, or Phoenix: Warsong – which were all extensions of this title. (For that matter, so was House of M).Shadow and Flame would have fit perfectly as another five issues in this collection.

Captain America Omnibus Vol. 4
(2024 “Vol. 4” oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302955137 / digital)
See Guide to Captain America. This is a reprint of “Captain America by Jack Kirby” simply rebranded to fit seamlessly into the omnibus line. That means it’s actually totally fine to buy as a standalone book – that’s how it’s been sold for well over a decade! If you want to read the beautiful madness that is Kirby drawing and writing Cap, it’s all here.

Carnage Epic Collection Vol. 3: The Monster Inside
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302956363 / digital)
I’m working on this Carnage Guide right now, I swear! It’s been a busy month. This is a third (and likely last) “Classic” Carnage collection, picking up in 1998 and cruising all the way through 2009 to pick up some of his modern mini-series.

Doctor Strange by Jed MacKay Vol. 2: The War-Hound of Vishanti
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302951177 / digital)
See Guide to Doctor Strange. I wouldn’t recommend picking up this book as a standalone, as it’s all payoff for the mystery that was set up expertly in the first volume by MacKay. That said, this is immensely enjoyable. It shows off just how good modern Strange comics can be. There’s a way to build off of old magical continuity and established foes without being slavishly devoted to it in a way that is dull or alienating to new fans. MacKay is the author to perfectly walk that tightrope, and it yields a fascinating puzzle box of plot for our Doctor.
