Remember: These titles and mappings are a suggestion of how Marvel could assemble these books. They are meant to help you decide on your votes on the Tigereyes poll. Your vote on the poll is a vote in favor of Marvel creating a book with that title or covering that period, NOT an endorsement of a specific map. Maps are presented as a proof of concept and to help you build your personal reading list.

Marvel Solo Heroes: Namor Omnibus Mapping
See my Guide to Namor – The Sub-Mariner for a complete reading order of Namor’s comics history from the Golden Age to present day!
Namor, The Sub-Mariner – The Golden Age Vol. 1 (1941 – 1943)
There has been some MAPPING DRAMA about if this book should exist and what this book could contain.
There are a pair of existing Golden Age Sub-Mariner omnibuses – a Pre-War omnibus collecting through issue #4 and a Post War omnibus collecting from issue #21 (but only Bill Everett stories).
While some people might be voting for this assuming it would simply collect the Golden Age Masterworks to pick up Sub-Mariner Comics (1941) #1-12, there’s a very good argument that it should instead be “Sub-Mariner: The War Years” and collect Sub-Mariner Comics (1941) #5-20, and then pick up any non-Everett Namor content that isn’t included in the Post-War omnibus.
Your vote can count for either or both of those sets of contents.
Atlas Era Heroes (1950 – 1957) [MMW1-3, could also include Black Knight & Yellow Claw]
DC continued to publish most of their superheroes through the 1950s and kicked off the Silver Age in 1956 with the introduction of Barry Allen as Flash in the pages of Showcase (1956).
Marvel’s publishing history is a little different. It’s not just were they five years late in showing up to the superheroic Silver Age with the introduction of Fantastic Four. The majority of their output in the 1950s were war comics, westerns, and romance – with relatively few of their World War 2 era superheroes making an appearance.
Those few appearances were collected in a trio of Atlas Era Marvel Masterworks called Atlas Era Heroes Vol. 1-3, which I am very proud to have on my shelf!
This would collect the contents of the Atlas Era Heroes MMW line: Marvel Boy (1950) #1-2, Astonishing (1951) #3-6, Young Men (1950) #24-28 (starring Namor), Men’s Adventures (1950) #27-28 (including Namor), Captain America (1941) #76-78, Human Torch (1940) #36-38 (with Namor backups), and Sub-Mariner Comics (1941) #33-42.
It could also possibly add Black Knight (1955) #1-5 and/or Yellow Claw (1956) #1-4.
Namor, The Sub-Mariner – The Silver Age Vol. 2 (1968 – 1974) [MMW 3-5]
Namor, The Sub-Mariner – The Silver Age Vol. 3 (1968 – 1974) [MMW 6-8]
The Namor, The Sub-Mariner Vol. 1 Omnibus out later this year breaks the “3 Masterworks” rule with a good reason – because it starts with what are effectively the contents of a non-existent Masterworks Vol. 0 (as seen in Epic Collection Vol. 1) detailing Namor’s return at the start of the Silver Age. I am so thrilled his material was collected that way, since it forms a cohesive and incredibly compelling story!
That means we have a perfect set of two trios of Masterworks so Namor, The Sub-Mariner Vol. 1 can perfectly obey the “3 Masterworks” rule.
Volume 2 would collect Sub-Mariner (1968) #2-38 and material from Ka-Zar (1970) #1
Volume 3 would collect Sub-Mariner (1968) #39-72 and Daredevil (1964) #77
Doctor Doom & Namor: Super-Villain Team-Up (1975 – 1984) [effectively Namor Vol. 4; includes his 1984 mini]
In Super-Villain Team-Up (1975), Namor and Doctor Doom conspired with each other and against each other throughout. We don’t have it complete collected in Masterworks or Epic Collection, although it did get a 450-page complete trade paperback edition in 2015. Clearly that was too long to fit in the Book of Doom omnibus, which is why only two issues were excerpted there.
That means it has been a decade since we’ve had this material collected in full and in color!
Not only is it significant for Doom, but it’s effectively Namor’s next adventure after the close of his 1968 series. If Namor received one more Masterworks volume, this would be collected there – and, there’s a chance it is included in his Epic line. That gives us an opportunity to fill the length of this out with more Namor material that takes us up to his 1990 omnibus by John Byrne, since by definition any further significant Doom material is already in his own omnibus.
This would collect Giant-Size Super Villain Team-Up (1975) #1-2, Super-Villain Team-Up (1975) #1-14, 15 (cover only), & 16-17, The Avengers (1963) #154-156, and The Champions (1976) #16
Plus, for Namor, it would collect Marvel Spotlight (1971) #27, Daredevil (1964) Annual 4, Marvel Two-in-One (1974) #28, Prince Namor, The Sub-Mariner (1984) #1-4, and covers of reprint issues Tales to Astonish (1979 – 1981) #1-14.
Namor, The Sub-Mariner by Kaminski & Herdling (1992 – 1995) [follows Namor by Byrne/Lee]
This would collect Namor The Sub-Mariner (1990) #41-62 & Annual 3, Wolverine: Global Jeopardy (1993) #1, Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #149 (4th story), and material from Marvel Super-Heroes (1990) #8 & 10, as well as some of the relevant issues of the Starblast from the final few issues of this series and his epilogue in Atlantis Rising (Fantastic Four: Atlantis Rising (1995) #1, Fantastic Four (1961) #401-402, & Fantastic Four: Atlantis Rising (1995) #2)
While we could also pick up some other issues of Fantastic Four, Fantastic Four Unlimited, and Fantastic Four Unplugged, I think they’re better left to the Fantastic Four line so we don’t overcomplicate this book.
Namor: The Modern Years (1998 & on)
This would begin to collect Hulk/Sub-Mariner Annual ’98 (1998) #1; Fantastic Four: 1 2 3 4 (2001) #1-4; Namor (2003) #1-12;
What If: Sub-Mariner (2005) #1; Sub-Mariner (2007) #1-6; Sub-Mariner Comics 70th Anniversary Special (2009) #1; Namor: The First Mutant (2010) #1-11 & Annual 1; Fear Itself: The Deep (2011) #1-4; Captain America and Namor (2012) #635.1; Namor: The Best Defense (2018) #1; Atlantis Attacks (2020) #1-5; Sub-Mariner: Marvels Snapshots (2020) #1; King in Black: Namor (2020) #1-5; Namor (2024) #1-8; and ,aterial from Marvel Comics Presents (2007) #7; Marvel Mystery Comics 70th Anniversary Special (2009) #1; Dark X-Men: The Beginning (2009) #3; and Marvel Comics Presents (2019) #1.
It could optionally collect Sub-Mariner: The Depths (2008) #1-5 and Namor the Sub-Mariner: Conquered Shores (2022) #1-5, neither of which are in continuity.
Marvel Solo Heroes: Nova Omnibus Mapping
Nick Fury: Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos Vol. 1 (1963 & on)
This would begin to collect Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos (1963) #1-120 (and covers of reprints from #121-167)
Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Vol. 1 (1969 & on) [collects guest/solo stories, continues to 1989 ongoing, Scorpio OGNs]
This would collect Defenders (1972) #48-50 (and material from #51 & 54); Marvel Two-in-One (1974) #26-27 & 51; material from Hulk Comic UK (1979) #1-19; Marvel Team-Up (1972) #82-85 & 139; Nick Fury vs Shield (1988) #1-6.
Then, it would continue to This would collect Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (1989) #1-47, Wolverine/Nick Fury: The Scorpio Connection (1989) OGN, Wolverine/Nick Fury: Scorpio Rising (1994) OGN, Fury (1994) #1, and Fury/Black Widow: Death Duty (1995) OGN.
Nick Fury: Nick Fury Jr. & The Agents of SHIELD (2011 & on) [AKA SHIELD by Waid & Guggenheim, includes 50th one-shots]
This would collect Battle Scars (2011) #1-5, SHIELD (2014) #1-12, S.H.I.E.L.D. 50th Anniversary (2015) (Agent Carter, Agent May, Fury, Mockingbird, & Quake), Agents of SHIELD (2016) #1-10, Nick Fury (2017) #1-6, & Invisible Woman (2019) #1-5
Marvel Solo Heroes: Nova Omnibus Mapping
Nova: Richard Rider by Abnett & Lanning (2007 – 2010)
This outstanding run has been collected entirely across the War of Kings omnibus line, but never on its own! See Guide to Nova for all the details.
This would collect Annihilation: Nova (2006) #1-4; Nova (2007) #1-35 & Annual 1; The Thanos Imperative (2010) Ignition, #1-6, & Devastation; and material from Nova: The Origin of Richard Rider (2009) #1 and I Am An Avenger (2010) #3.
Nova: Sam Alexander (2013 – 2017)
This would collect material from Marvel Now! Point One (2012) #1; Nova (2013) #1-31 & Annual 1, Nova Special (2014) #1 AKA “No End in Sight” (but NOT the other two one-shot specials, he barely appears in them); a few issues of the “Black Vortex” crossover (but NOT all of it, it’s just not relevant); Nova (2016) #1-11; and Nova (2017) #1-7; plus some excerpted establishing material )from Avengers vs. X-Men: Infinite (2012) #1, Avengers Vs. X-Men (2012) #1 & 12, and Uncanny X-Men (2012) #19)
Marvel Solo Heroes: Quasar Omnibus Mapping
Quasar by Mark Gruenwald Vol. 1 (1989 – 1992)
For this map, we turn to our very own Near Mint Condition polling guru BFFNut!!!
This would collect his pre-Quasar appearances as “Marvel Man” (from Captain America (1968) #217-218, material from Defenders (1972) #62-64, Captain America (1968) #229-230 (and material from #238), and Incredible Hulk (1968) #232-234); Marvel Two-In-One (1974) #53-58, 63, & 67; Dazzler (1981) #9-10; Marvel Team-Up #113 & Annual 5; Avengers (1963) #301-303 & Annual 18 (where he joins the team); Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #29; and Quasar (1989) #1-31.
Quasar by Mark Gruenwald Vol. 2 (1992 – 1996) [AKA Star-Blast]
Starblast is the forgotten mid-90s cosmic event that crossed through Quasar, Fantastic Four, Sub-Mariner, and Secret Defenders. Maybe it’s forgotten because it mostly centered on the events at the end of the run of Quasar – a title whose hero disappeared for a long time (and has no MCU counterpart).
This would collect Quasar (1989) #32-34 and selected elements from Operation Galactic Storm; Questprobe (1984) #1-3; Marvel Fanfare (1982) #35; Quasar (1989) #35-60; the full Starblast crossover (Starblast (1994) #1, Quasar (1989) #54, Secret Defenders (1993) #11, Namor the Sub-Mariner (1990) #46-47, Fantastic Four (1961) #385, Namor the Sub-Mariner (1990) #48, Fantastic Four (1961) #386, Starblast (1994) #2, Quasar (1989) #55, Starblast (1994) #3, Quasar (1989) #56, Starblast (1994) #4); Star Masters (1995) #1-3; and Cosmic Powers Unlimited (1995) #4-5.
Marvel Solo Heroes: Quicksilver Omnibus Mapping
Quicksilver: The Early Years (1964 & on) [includes his 1997 series]
Shoutout to friend of the blog and Near Mint regular NextImaginaut, who squeaked this map in under the wire as the last book added to the 2025 poll.
This would begin to collect key early Silver Age appearances including his debut in Uncanny X-Men (1963) #4-7 and joining “Cap’s Kooky Quartet” in Avengers (1963) #16, Bronze Age material like his wedding in Fantastic Four (1963) #150, some later 80s and 90s appearances like X-Factor (1986) #87, then move on to Quicksilver (1997) #1-13 & Heroes for Hire/Quicksilver Annual ‘98 plus “Siege of Wundagore” crossover issues (Heroes for Hire (1997) #15-16), some key 2000s appearances, Son of M (2006) #1-6, Silent War (2007) #1-6, and further appearances to carry us through Quicksilver: No Surrender (2018) #1-5 (and maybe Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver (2024) #1-4)
Marvel Solo Heroes: Red Skull Omnibus Mapping
Red Skull Vol. 1 (1965 & on)
I won’t even attempt to enumerate what this volume would contain. Would it start in the Golden Age? The Silver? Red Skull makes nearly 200 appearances just by the mid-80s. As with all villain-centric volumes, you’d have to do an incredibly close reading to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Let’s say this would start with his Silver Age debut in Tales of Suspense (1959) #66, which also depicts his origin story. Want a full map? Get this book into the Top 100 on this year’s poll!
Marvel Solo Heroes: Red Wolf Omnibus Mapping
Red Wolf: The Complete Saga (1971 – 2015)
There are several characters known as Red Wolf. This would collect across them to include Marvel Spotlight (1971) #1, Red Wolf (1972) #1-9, Rawhide Kid (2010) #2-4, Blaze of Glory (2000) #1-4 (does not appear in #1), 1872 (2015) #1-4, Red Wolf (2015) #1-6, and Occupy Avengers (2016) #1-8 (which co-stars Red Wolf throughout).
Marvel Solo Heroes: Scarlet Witch Omnibus Mapping
Scarlet Witch: The Early Years (1964 & on) [includes Vision & Scarlet Witch]
If you want to see my mapping for this (alongside Scarlet Witch MEGAFAN Ødfel), you should watch our Map My X: Scarlet Witch Omnibus show on Near Mint Condition! Wanda has so many iconic stories from her debut in X-Men, through her joining the Avengers, her two series with Vision in the early 90s, her Darker Than Scarlet run in Avengers West Coast, and her own early-00s mini-series! See my Guide to Scarlet Witch for more details.
There’s definitely enough to fill two volumes, even if you are being incredibly choosy! Plus, Wanda is a mega-popular character both for comics fans and the general public. We mashed it down into one volume on the show, but it involved a lot of brutal cutting. So, register your vote here to show which set of material you’d like to see more comprehensively collected – the pre-1982 material or the post-1982 material… or, if you really love Wanda, all of it!
This could collect Uncanny X-Men (1963) #4-5, Strange Tales #128, Avengers (1963) #16, 76, 128, 185-187, 234 (and material from #181-182), Giant-Size Avengers #1 & 4, Vision & Scarlet Witch (1982) #1-4, Marvel Team-Up (1972) #125 (2nd story), Marvel Two-in-One (1974) #66, Marvel Fanfare (1972) #6 & 58 (2nd story), Vision & Scarlet Witch (1985) #1-12, West Coast Avengers (1985) #2 & 42-45 (and material from #46), Marvel Super-Heroes (1990) #10 (1st story), Solo Avengers #5 (2nd story), Marvel Comics Presents #60-63, Avengers West Coast #47-57 & 60-62, Darkhold: Pages From the Book of Sins #3-7, and Scarlet Witch (1994) #1-4.
Scarlet Witch: The Modern Era (2009 – 2017) [includes Robinson series]
I think we goofed a bit on this omnibus name, since we didn’t indicate it would contain Children’s Crusade. However, just the Robinson series and its supporting material is enough for a slim omnibus. See my Guide to Scarlet Witch for more details on this era.
This would collect Avengers: The Children’s Crusade (2009) #1-9 (which is all about Wanda, even if she’s not in every issue), Avengers vs X-Men (2012) #0, Uncanny Avengers (2012) Annual 1, Scarlet Witch (2016) #1-14, and Doctor Strange (2015) #6-10.
Scarlet Witch by Steve Orlando (2021 & on) [includes Trial of Magneto & Darkhold]
This is a still-developing map, because Steve Orlando has teased there’s something big for Wanda coming after The Vision & The Scarlet Witch (2025)! However, right now we’ve got enough Orlando material to know for sure we have an omnibus, so we’ve included this on the poll. See my Guide to Scarlet Witch for more details on all of Wanda’s appearances from 2021 to present.
This would collect X-Men: The Trial of Magneto (2021) #1-5, The Darkhold (2021) Alpha & Omega (and optionally the one-shots Blade, Wasp, Iron Man, Black Bolt, Spider-Man), material from Women of Marvel (2022) #1, Captain Marvel (2019) #38-41, Who Is… The Scarlet Witch Infinity Comic (2022) #1, Scarlet Witch (2023) #1-10 & Annual 1, material from Contest of Chaos annuals (Spider-Man (2023) Annual 1, Iron Man Annual (2023) 1, Fantastic Four (2022) Annual 1, Moon Knight (2021) Annual 1(/2023), Spider-Gwen (2023) Annual 1, Venom (2021) Annual 1, X-Men (2021) Annual 1, and Avengers (2023) Annual 1), Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver (2024) #1-4, material from Women of Marvel (2024) #1, Scarlet Witch (2024) #1-10, The Vision & The Scarlet Witch (2025) #1-5, and possibly more.
Marvel Solo Heroes: Sentinel Omnibus Mapping
Sentinel by Sean McKeever (2003 – 2024)
This would collect Sentinel (2003) #1-12; Sentinel (2006) #1-5; Avengers Academy (2010) #32-33; and maybe Sentinels (2024) #1-5.
Marvel Solo Heroes: Sentry Omnibus Mapping
Sentry: The Saga of Bob Reynolds (2000 – 2010) [everything through Siege]
Usually I say, “You don’t have to agree with my map,” but from friend to friend: in this instance you should definitely defer to my map.” See Guide to Sentry for more details.
This would collect Sentry (2000) #1-5 and the five accompanying Sentry specials (which should be read in this order): Sentry/Fantastic Four, Sentry/Hulk, Sentry/Spider-Man, Sentry/X-Men, and Sentry/Void, then New Avengers (2005) #2 & 7-10 (plus material from 1 & 3), Sentry (2005) #1-8, New Thunderbolts (2005) #14, material from Civil War: Return (2007) One-Shot, New Avengers (2005) #24, Mighty Avengers (2007) #10, Age of the Sentry (2008) #1-6, Hulk (2008) #8-9, Mighty Avengers (2007) #14, some sub-plot pages from Dark Avengers (2008) (especially #12-13) and Siege (2010), and Sentry: Fallen Sun (2010) #1.
Would it be worthwhile to include his return and legacy in this book? I’m not sure, but that would add excerpted material from Uncanny Avengers (2012) #9-11, 13, 15, 21-22 (only 1-2 pages per issue); Doctor Strange (2017) #382-385; Sentry (2018) #1-5; King in Black: Return of the Valkyries (2021) #1-4; Strange (2022) #9-10 (which resolves this era’s story); and an epilogue (that does not feature Reynols) in The Sentry (2023) #1-4.
Marvel Solo Heroes: Shang-Chi Omnibus Mapping
Shang-Chi, The Modern Years by Gene Luen Yang (1992 – 2023) [also includes pre-Yang material]
I know this poll option says “the Modern Years,” but last year we did the math and this title could actually pick up directly from the existing line of Master of Kung-Fu omnibus volumes to collect all of Shang-Chi’s major solo work from the 90s to the end of his Gene Luen Yang material! See Guide to Shang-Chi for more details.
This would begin by collecting Marc Spector: Moon Knight Special #1 (1992) (for which he is a cover star); Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #156-158; X-Men (1991) #62-64; Journey Into Mystery (1952 / 1996) #514-516; Heroes For Hire (1997) #18-19; Shang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu One-Shot (B&W) (2009) #1; Secret Avengers (2010) #6-10; Shadowland: Spider-Man (2010) #1; Secret Avengers (2010) #18; Avengers (2012) #11; Deadly Hands of Kung Fu (2014) #1-4; and Master of Kung-Fu (2017) #126.
Then we’d add nearly 600 pages of Yang’s material on Shang-Chi (2020) #1-5, Shang-Chi (2021) #1-12, Marvel’s Voices: Identity (2021) #1 (Shang-Chi story), Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings (2022) #1-6, and Shang-Chi: Master of the Ten Rings (2023) #1, ending with Greg Pak’s Deadly Hands of Kung Fu: Gang War (2023) #1-3 (which resolves some Yang plots) and adding Alyssa Wong’s The Legend of Shang-Chi (2021) #1 and Shang-Chi Infinity Comic (2021) #1-4.
Marvel Solo Heroes: Shanna the She-Devil Omnibus Mapping
Shanna The She-Devil (1972 – 2013)
This would collect this could include Shanna The She-Devil (1972) #1-5, Shanna, the She-Devil (2005) #1-7, and Shanna, the She-Devil: Survival of the Fittest (2007) #1-4, plus anthology stories from Marvel Fanfare (1982) #56-59 and Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #13 & 68-77.
It could add a guest-run in Daredevil (1964) #109-113, material from Savage Tales (1971) #8-10, editorial material from Rampaging Hulk (1977) #9, and Frank Cho’s arc of Savage Wolverine (2013) #1-5, as well as key issues of her appearances with Ka-Zar.
Marvel Solo Heroes: Silver Sable Omnibus Mapping
Silver Sable and the Wild Pack (1985 – 2006)
A vote for this book is a vote to collect all of Silver Sable & The Wild Pack (1992) and its one crossover, “For Love Nor Money” with Cave (1992) and Terror Inc. (1992)
That’s already a big book, so it could potentially skip Spider-Man appearances beyond her debut in Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #265, which include appearances in Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #279-281 and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #128-129, although I could see the argument for collecting a Wild Pack appearances in Solo Avengers (1987) #3-7.
However, I do see the merits of pushing onward to grab Spider-Man Unlimited (1993) #16 and Marvel Team-Up (1997) #3. A trickier prospect is if you forge ahead another 10 years to pick up Sable & Fortune (2006) #1-4 – but, if not here, where would it be printed?
This would collect Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #265 & 279-281; Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #128-129; Wild Pack appearances in Solo Avengers (1987) #3-7; Silver Sable & The Wild Pack (1992) #1-35 and the “For Love Nor Money crossover (Terror, Inc. (1992) #11-12 & Cage (1992) #15-16); material from Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #53; Spider-Man Unlimited (1993) #16; Marvel Team-Up (1997) #3; and possible Sable & Fortune (2006) #1-4.
Marvel Solo Heroes: Sleepwalker Omnibus Mapping
Sleepwalker (1991 – 1994)
Let’s get unconscious baby! Sleepwalker was something akin to Marvel doing an oddball mashup of two DC characters – Sandman and Martian Manhunter.
I am a big fan of my 90s heroes with chunky, multi-year series that are the perfect size for a single omnibus, and Sleepwalker is a perfect example! He has never been comprehensively collected, and he makes only a handful of significant appearances from the end of his 1991 series to the modern day.
This would collect Sleepwalker (1991) #1-33; Darkhawk (1991) #19-20; Marvel Team-Up (2005) #9-10 (2nd stories, maybe material from #7); material from Ms. Marvel (2005) #18-26 (he is not in #21); and Infinity Wars: Sleepwalker (2018) #1-4.
Marvel Solo Heroes: Taskmaster Omnibus Mapping
Taskmaster (1980 – 2020)
I love Taskmaster, and so does a lot of the comic-loving internet! There’s something at once both surly and charming about this skull-masked copycat. But, can we cut deeper than Tasky’s meme-lord status to find an omnibus of content?
Marvel released a 300+ page collection of his greatest hits, appropriately called Anything You Can Do. To that we can add his pair of mini-series collected as The Right Price. Together, that’s enough for an omnibus, and there’s definitely some more greatest hits material to collect between those two books or from Marvel Now and onward.
First, this would collect the contents of his Anything You Can Do classic trade: Avengers (1963) #195-196 & 223; Marvel Team-Up (1972) #103 & 146; Thing (1983) #26; Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #308; Iron Man (1968) #254; Daredevil (1964) #292-293; Deadpool (1997) #2; Hawkeye: Earth’s Mightiest Marksman (1998) #1; Avengers (1998) #26; Captain America (1998) #44; and material from Captain America (1968) Annual 11.
Then this would add modern material including Taskmaster (2002) #1-4; material from Marvel Comics Presents (2007) #2; Taskmaster (2010) #1-4, material from Age of Heroes (2010) #3; and Avengers Academy (2010) #9.
Marvel Solo Heroes: Thanos Omnibus Mapping
Thanos: Road to Annihilation (1993 – 2006) [fits between Crusade & Annihilation]
See Guide to Thanos. Thanos is very well collected through the mid-90s, because all of his appearances were essentially under the pen of Jim Starlin in Warlock, Captain Marvel, and the Infinity Trilogy. However, to track him from there to his role in the mid-00s space saga we’d hit a long run of inconsistently-collected issues – including both guest spots and his own series. See Guide to Thanos for more details.
A vote for this book is a vote to get all of that material onto your bookshelf in a single omnibus!
If we picked up directly after the Infinity Trilogy, this would begin with an unlikely team-up in Secret Defenders (1993) #11-13. From there, it could include Quasar (1989) #59, Cosmic Powers (1994) #1-6, Cosmic Powers Unlimited (1995) #1, material from Ka-Zar (1997) Annual ’97 and #6-11, X-Man/Incredible Hulk Annual 1998, Thor (1998) #21-25 & Annual 2000, and Captain Marvel (1999) #17-19.
Those are all meaty appearances that skip past brief cameos. After that, we get to the heavy-hitting stuff – Infinity Abyss (2002) #1-6 and Thanos (2003) #1-12 (plus She-Hulk (2005) #12-13).
That’s all of Thanos’s significant material from 1993 to 2006! You could argue with my map a bit (especially due to revelations in Infinity Abyss), but I think the core of Cosmic Powers, Infinity Abyss, and Thanos (2003) is what you’re really voting for here.
Thanos by Jeff Lemire (2016 – 2017) BrandXK Thanos by Jeff Lemire 2016 2017 PETER: check year ranges
Jeff Lemire wrote an intriguing run on Thanos (2016) #1-12 in the wake of Civil War II before Donny Cates took over and turned it into a blockbuster by introducing Cosmic Ghost Rider. See Guide to Thanos for more details.
Clearly 12 issues isn’t really enough for an omnibus. On one hand, we could reach back for some Thanos material from Marvel Now. On the other hand, we could just collect the rest of the Donny Cates portion of this series to expand his entire tiny 312 page omnibus – something Marvel has been more willing to do in recent years!
Or, we could do both! But, what this probably won’t do is collect any of the contents of the nearly 1000-page “Thanos: The Infinity Saga” by Jim Starlin collecting Starlin’s series from 2014 to 2019.
But, what you are primarily voting to collect here is that Lemire material, which has never been recollected in oversize format.
This could collect Thanos Rising (2014) #1-5 (Jason Aaron’s origin), Thanos (2019) #1-6 (released later, but exploring his adoption of Gamora), Thanos: A God Up There Listening (Infinite) (2014) #1-6, Thanos Annual (2014) #1 (also in the Starlin omnibus), Thanos (2016) #1-12 (by Jeff Lemire), and then repeat the contents of the Donny Cates omnibus with Thanos (2016) #13-18 & Annual; Cosmic Ghost Rider (2018) #1-5, and Thanos Legacy (2018) #1. It could add Black Order (2018) #1-5, but he does not appear there alongside his generals.
Unfortunately, it would be tricky to collect past that since it involves a lot of Thanos in Infinity Wars and Eternals, but his next material is Thor (2020) #27-35, Thanos: Death Notes (2022) #1, Thanos (2023) #1-4 and Thanos (2024) Annual 1
Marvel Solo Heroes: Tigra Omnibus Mapping
Tigra (1972 – 2002)
Marvel has offered an existing 400+ page Complete Collection of key Tigra material, which we could pad out with some greatest hits of her Avengers membership and solo anthology stories to create a full omnibus that takes us through Avengers Disassembled.
To that we can add some further early material and a handful of 1990s solo anthology stories. However, there’s not too much of her to include after her 2002 mini-series, as her primary action is very tied up with the events of Civil War and Secret Invasion.
This would primarily collect the contents of her Complete Collection with The Cat (1972) #1-4; Marvel Team-Up (1972) #8; Giant-Size Creatures (1974) #1; Marvel Chillers #3-7; Marvel Two-In-One (1974) #19; Marvel Team-Up (1972) #67; Marvel Premiere (1972) #42; Tigra (2002) #1-4; and material from Monsters Unleashed (1973) #10 and Marvel Team-Up (1972) #125. To that, it would add two other solo stories from Marvel Super-Heroes (1990) #2 (5th story) and Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #162-165.
That could be front-loaded with her early arc with Fantastic Four (1961) as she explores the wider Marvel Universe, and her issues joining The Avengers and, later, the West Coast Avengers – in which she is a member for many years.
Marvel Solo Heroes: USAgent Omnibus Mapping
U.S.Agent: John Walker (1986 – 2020)
Sorry, y’all – I am no U.S.Agent expert! This has been a vote on past polls but I don’t have a map for it.
I know it would include Jon Walker’s debut and early material from Captain America (1968) in the 320s and 330s, and some of his confrontational moments from Avengers West Coast, plus several solo stories from Avengers Spotlight and his U.S.Agent (1993) #1-4 mini-series.
However, I’m not sure how much more material would make it into this “best of” style collection. If he’s your favorite character, vote for him! If this book makes the Top 60, I’ll have to put a little more effort into mapping it for our results show!
Marvel Solo Heroes: Ultron Omnibus Mapping
Ultron Vol. 1: The Ultron Imperative (1968 – 2001)
This could collect all of Ultron’s classic origin material and the first thirty years of his major conflicts with the Avengers.
This would collect Avengers (1963) #54-58, 66-68, 127, 134-135, 157,161-162, 171 (A-Story),172, 202, 280; Fantastic Four (1961) #150 (A-Story), 227; Marvel Two-In-One (1974) #92-93; The Thing (1983) #22-23; West Coast Avengers (1985) #1-2 & 4-7; Daredevil (1964) #275-276; Avengers West Coast (1989) #65 (A-Story), 66 (A-Story), 67-68, 89-91; the “Vibranium Vendetta” 1991 Annuals (Avengers West Coast (1989) Annual 8; Amazing Spider-Man (1963) Annual 25 (A-story), Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) Annual 11 (A-story), Web of Spider-Man (1985) Annual #7 (A-Story)); Vision (1994) #1-4; Avengers (1998) #0, 10, 14-15, 19-22; and Avengers: The Ultron Imperative (2001) #1.
Marvel Solo Heroes: Wasp Omnibus Mapping
Wasp: Janet Van Dyne (1963) [significant issues & solo material]
Janet Van Dyne is a rare Silver Age Avenger who has barely any solo material to show off… even Scarlet Witch had more solo stories than Janet in the Silver and Bronze Age! Janet has a distinct personality and a handful of solo back-ups in Tales To Astonish (1959) which were in the Ant-Man / Giant-Man Masterworks, but she doesn’t really come into her own when it comes to plot lines that don’t attach her to Hank Pym until Roger Stern’s run with her as the leader of the Avengers starting in 1983.
That leaves us with a dilemma of what this book could collect. I’ve read every comic with Janet in it through 2005, so my approach was to go “greatest hits” here to get us to her becoming a leader, ending with some of her 1980s solo series. However, I think there’s equally an argument to be made to cut all of that Silver Age Avengers material to focus more on later material where she has notably more agency. For my full list of every one of those issues, including Janet’s action in each one, see my Guide to Wasp.
You can picture this book either way, or a totally different way – maybe focusing on her modern material like Wasp (2023) #1-5 and Avengers Inc. (2025) #1-5 by Al Ewing.
This would include some or all of Tales To Astonish (1959) #44-47, 52, 57, 61, 63, 65-69, her solo Tales To Astonish (1959) #51-58 (back-up stories), Avengers (1963) #1-2, 10, 12, & 16, Tales To Astonish (1959 #77-78, Avengers (1963) #26, 28-29, 33-34, 43, 45-46, 57-60, 74-75, 83, Marvel Feature (1971) #6-10, Captain Marvel (1968) #35, Avengers (1963) #137 & 161-162, Marvel Team-Up (1972) #59-60, Avengers (1963) Annual 8, Defenders (1972) #76-77, Avengers (1963) #194-196, 201-202, 206, and Avengers (1963) #212-214, 217-222. & 223-226
That takes us through where Wasp becomes the leader of the Avengers. It’s also more than 50 issues, so we’d have to make some cuts! Generally, I don’t think I’d argue to hard for all of that Avengers material, especially because I’d love it if we could make room to push on to her period as a reserve Avengers, where we get some good solo tales in Solo Avengers (1987) #15 (2nd story), Avengers Spotlight (1989) #28 (2nd story), Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #48 (3rd story), Marvel Super-Heroes (1990) #3 (2nd story), and Avengers West Coast (1989) Annual 6 (3rd story).
It’s possible this could even make some leaps and bounds over double-dipped team material to make it to key modern material like Avengers (2010) #31-34, Wasp (2023) #1-5, and Avengers Inc. (2025) #1-5.
Wasp: Unstoppable Wasp by Waid & Whitley (2016 & on)
This omnibus could collect everything from Nadia Van Dyne AKA Nadia Pym AKA The Unstoppable Wasp! She first begins to appear in Mark Waid’s Avengers run and has some significant material there before pair of outstanding brief Jeremy Whitley series, which would be the primary content in this volume. We’ve included her co-starring appearance in Wasp (2023) #1-5 here even though it is primarily a Janet series, since Nadia plays a major role. See Guide to Unstoppable Wasp for more information.
This would collect Free Comic Book Day 2016: Civil War II (2016) #1, All-New, All-Different Avengers (2016) #9 & 14, Avengers (2016) #1-6, Unstoppable Wasp (2017) #1-8, Avengers (2016) #7-8, Ant-Man & The Wasp (2018) #1-5, Unstoppable Wasp (2018) #1-10, Ironheart (2018) #7-8, Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit (2021) #4-5, Avengers Unlimited Infinity Comic (2022) #21-24, and Wasp (2023) #1-5.
Marvel Solo Heroes: Wonder Man Omnibus Mapping
Wonder Man: The Modern Years (1985 & on) [follows Early Years omni]
This omnibus would be a direct sequel to the Wonder Man: The Early Years omnibus. Unlike that book, which was mostly scattered team appearances, this has a significant amount of solo material to focus on!
This book would collect by Wonder Man (1991) #1-29 & Annual 1-2, material from the System Bytes 1992 Annuals Crossover (from Punisher (1987) Annual 5, Daredevil (1964) Annual 8, Wonder Man (1991) Annual 1, and Guardians of the Galaxy (1990) Annual 2, Tales of the Marvels: Wonder Years (1995) #1-2, key developments in Avengers (1998) #3-4 & 10-12, Avengers Two: Wonder Man & Beast (2000) #1-3, and Wonder Man (2006) #1-5. It could potentially include some further Avengers (1963) and (1998) material.
If I was looking at a Road to Annihilation Omnibus (ie Thanos), I’d like to add Warlock (1998) 1-4 and Marvel Universe: The End 1-6
Agreed
If Super-Villian Team-Up is pitched as a Namor Omni, it should include Saga of the Sub-Mariner #1-12 from 1988
I can’t believe you wouldn’t put Force Works #1 (at least) Wonder Man Omni
