Green Arrow & Green Lantern Omnibus Mapping for the Tigereyes Most Wanted DC Omnibus 1st Annual Poll

May 12, 2024 by krisis

Most Wanted DC Omnibus - Green Arrow and Green Lantern Omnibus MappingIt’s time to get Green in our DC omnibus mapping – Green Arrow & Green Lantern! I’ll be loosely mapping missing and most-wanted DC omnibus volumes every day until May 19th! Then, on the 19th, I’ll be joining with Near Mint Condition to launch the first annual Tigereyes Most Wanted DC Omnibus Annual Poll! This post covers omnibuses missing from Green Arrow and the entire Lantern line of titles.

This post explains potential Green Arrow and Green Lantern Omnibus Mapping for votes on the Tigereyes Most Wanted DC Omnibus 1st Annual Secret Ballot. I’m posting all of these maps before the poll begins to give people the time to consider their favorites, correct our mapping mistakes, and catch books I might have missed.

If you don’t know DC well enough to know what to vote for, stick around for my explanations! Learn why the team behind the poll decided on these books and titles – including giving us feedback if we missed the mark.

If voting is now open, you can use this as your crib sheet! Or… just find some great comics to read!

Remember: These mappings are just my suggestion of how DC could assemble these books. They are meant to help you decide on your votes and build your personal reading list, but your vote on the poll is NOT an endorsement of my specific map. It’s a vote in favor of DC creating a book with that title or covering that period.

High-effort, heavily-researched, over-the-top comics posts like this one are made possible via the support of Patrons of Crushing Krisis. For less than the cost of a single comic issue a month you can fuel my in-depth comics coverage, plus gain access to dozens of exclusive collecting guides & reading orders – including all of the Crushing Comics Guide to DC Comics.

New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: DC Comics – April 24 2024

April 20, 2024 by krisis

It’s the 16th new comic book day of the new year! This post covers DC Comics April 24 2024 releases, which actually hit comic stores on Tuesday April 23 2024. Missed last week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering DC Comics April 17 2024 new releases.

(DC is still releasing their comics on Tuesday until the start of July, but I think most folks think of Wednesday as release day, so that’s how I’m labelling my posts until then – which means this is the DC Comics April 24 2024 New Releases post… for releases on April 23 😂 )

This week in DC Comics: a hunk of Booster Gold, evergreen Zatanna, Spurrier’s Flash gets weirder, Green Arrow strikes a deal with Amanda Waller, Harley becomes a villainous consultant, Power Girl in the House of Brainiac, and more!

These DC New Releases posts will be a work in progress. I’m slow catching up to present on my DC reading, and some of my DC Guides are twice that far behind on updates. I thought it might be a good idea to do all my reading and updating before beginning this series of posts, but there’s no better way to catch up on all of that than diving deep into New Releases! Sometimes you’ve got to build the plane while you are flying it!

This list includes every comic and digital comic out from DC this week, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats. I recap and review every new single issue. Plus, for every new release, I’ll point you to the right guide within my Crushing Comics Guide to DC Comics to find out how to collect each character in full – and, if a guide is linked from this post, that means it is updated through the present day!

DC Comics April 24 2024 Collected EditionsBooster Gold (2007) The Complete Series, Book One, a DC Comics April 24 2024 new release

Booster Gold: The Complete Series, Book One
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1779527233 / digital)
This collects more than a year of the 2007 Geoff Johns Booster Gold series. The series ran for #47 issues – right up until Flashpoint – so we’ll need two more volumes to complete it.

The Flash Vol. 20: Time Heist
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1779525017 / digital)
See Guide to Flash. DC loves to really make fans wait for their trade paperbacks, so this is the final collection of the 2016 Flash ongoing that concluded a full year ago! There’s no need to backtrack for this if you want to jump onto the current Flash run.

The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing Vol. 2
(2024 hardcover, ISBN 978-1779524928 / digital)
After bouncing around on a couple of DC properties, it seems that Matt Rosenberg has shown a real knack for the underbelly of Gotham. I haven’t caught up to this Joker series that concluded at the end of 2023 yet, but I absolutely loved Rosenberg’s back-ups in Detective Comics so I’m excited to catch up on this. If you prefer a paperback, DC releases a single paperback collection of this entire series in September.

Zatanna by Paul Dini TP 2024 Edition
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1779525833 / digital)
This Paul Dini Zatanna material is nearly evergreen – DC always brings it back to print. This includes her entire 2010 series, plus Dini’s famous Zatanna: Everyday Magic (2003) OGN.

Back Issue Review: The Flintstones, Green Lantern Corps, Eugenic, Space Battle Lunchtime, and more!

January 14, 2018 by krisis

Welcome to our second pilot post of Back Issue Review, where I give you the run-down on all the not-new comics I read this week. (Did you miss last week’s edition?)

I know the knee-jerk reaction for a lot of readers to a post like this might be to say either “I don’t read comics” or “I’ll just tune in when you talk X-Men.”

My reply to you is that comics as a medium is so much more than what you’re seeing on the big screen or in the pages of X-Men books.

I’d love to connect you with a new favorite read, but also with a wider awareness of the medium.

Today’s back issue review includes write-ups on:

  • After Eden (2017) #1-4
  • Captain Canuck (2015) #3
  • Centipede (2017) #1
  • Cowboy Ninja Viking (2009) #1
  • Eugenic (2017) #1-3
  • The Flintstones (2016) #1-6
  • Green Arrow (2016) #10-11
  • Green Lantern Corps (2006) #1-3
  • Grimm Fairy Tales: Return to Wonderland (2007) #4-6
  • Jonesy (2016) #1, Scalped (2007) #1
  • Space Battle Lunchtime (2016) #1-8
  • X’ed (2015) #1-4

That’s a lot of indie comics and absolutely no Marvel!

Please let me know if you like this this post – it’s the second pilot of this new weekly series, but there’s no guarantee it will be back for more.

And now – let’s get to the comics! [Read more…] about Back Issue Review: The Flintstones, Green Lantern Corps, Eugenic, Space Battle Lunchtime, and more!

This week in comic book collected editions & graphic novels – April 5, 2017

April 2, 2017 by krisis

Welcome to another wild week in new releases of graphic novels and comic collected editions!

You’d think seeing a list of what comics are out this week along with what they collect and what’s come before would be an easy thing to do since comic book publishers want you to buy comics, right?

Well, they don’t. At least, they don’t without you going through the arcane process of pre-ordering books three months ahead of time from a physical comic shop with no guarantee that the books will come out on time or at all.

When it comes to promoting books to the mass book market (which is exponentially larger than the comic market) on the week of release, most companies do nothing.

Oh, and all of their books come out in the mass market at different delayed intervals from the direct market!

If you’re anything like me, you think that’s a short-sighted bunch of malarky. Well, until we convince comics publishers of the same, I’ll do the heavy lifting for you.

Here’s what’s out this week from all the major publishers and many of the indies, frequently with context on the book and preceding or related collections.

Publishers:

  • DC
  • Dark Horse
  • IDW
  • Image Comics
  • Marvel Comics
  • Valiant Entertainment – No books this week!
  • Other Publishers

What are the must-read books this week?

Green Arrow was one of my favorite Rebirth one-shots, but my review came with some caveats – I wasn’t sure if the excellent dynamic with Black Canary would continue with her also in Batgirl & The Birds of Prey, and I only wanted to keep reading if I could consume more of the delectable art from Otto Schmidt. His panels look like single cells of animation from a Green Arrow cartoon in the style of the classic Batman: The Animated Series.

Well, last week I caught up with the first trade of Green Arrow, Volume 1: The Death and Life Of Oliver Queen, and it easily took care of both of my caveats. It’s a nice blend of DC’s classic, more mature Arrow with a hint of the romance and adventure of his TV show. This week, the second edition is out – Green Arrow Vol. 2: Island Of Scars – still with art by Schmidt.

This guy is a must-see, must-buy artist and Arrow is so far one of DC’s stronger books. Don’t sleep on this.

Also out this week: Lumberjanes, Vol 06: Sink or Swim! Our house is finally caught up through the end of Vol. 5. More on this treasure of a series, along with everything else out this week, below.
