The Krisis Pick of the Week: I am moderately hyped for the new Doctor Strange of Asgard (2024), but my Marvel pick this week is The Ultimates (2024) #10 from Denis Camp & Juan Frigeri. I’m extremely intrigued to see how Camp re-interprets a pair of World World II characters in Namor and Red Skull.

The Krisis Pick of the Week: This is wild, but my pick is Rogue: The Savage Land (2025) #2! Can this be real? Is Krisis really highlighting a flashback retcon mini-series? If you read issue #1 you’d understand – as did literally every person who read this book who chimed in during my live stream review last month. Tim Seeley, Zulema Scotto Lavina, Rachelle Rosenberg, & Ariana Maher are delivering something that’s incredibly fun and that feels entirely on-voice who Rogue was at the end of Claremont’s run.

The Krisis Pick of the Week: As tempted as I am to say Magik (2025) #2 after her smash hit first issue, I have to go with my heart and pick One World Under Doom (2025) #1 (of 9) penned by Ryan North. I’ve been cheering for North since the very start of his web comic days. It’s wild to see the web comic darling of 20 years ago steering a major Marvel event for arguably their signature villain. Marvel Comics May 22 2024 Collected Editions

The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 9: Gang War
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302954604 / digital)
See Guide to Spider-Man – Peter Parker (2018 – Present). This collects all of the core of the Gang War story from Amazing Spider-Man (2022). While there were a lot of tie-ins to this story, the plots in books like Spider-Woman and Luke Cage didn’t really drive the plot.

The Avengers Epic Collection: The Evil Reborn
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302955236 / digital)
See Guide to Avengers (1963 – 1996). This Epic collects several different authors writing a year on either side of Avengers (1963) #200, including George Pérez! The initial burst of this has been collected in the past as “Heart of Stone,” but otherwise this material has only ever been in Marvel Masterworks!

Also, it includes the intensely problematic issue #200, which Chris Claremont immediately rebuked with his all-time classic introduction of Rogue in Annual 10 – also in this book!

Captain America by Nick Spencer Omnibus Vol. 2
(2024 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302953706 / digital)
See Guide to Captain America – Steve Rogers. This collects the conclusion of Nick Spencer’s two-year, multi-title run on Captain American across Sam Wilson, Steve Rogers, and the Secret Empire event.

However, this isn’t a “Secret Empire Omnibus” – it only includes the core 12 issues of the event. I’ll be very curious to hear about the reading order of this turns out, since it’s all by Spencer and he certainly wrote it in a specific reading order. This Week in X: Excalibur Returns (sort of) in X-Men Gold, X-Men Blue climaxes, and more!

It’s the second week of new comics in 2018, and that means a whole new batch of X-Men comics books to help you catch up with!

This week brings five books with it – mid-arc issues of the two Ed Brisson old guy books in Cable #153 and Old Man Logan #33, the middle installment of Matthew Rosenberg’s Phoenix Resurrection, a climatic turn of events in Cullen Bunn’s X-Men: Blue #19, and an adorable pair of standalone stories in X-Men: Gold Annual #1.

None of these books are a must-read, but it’s nice to read a week of X-Men that’s solid across the board… well, except for one book, as you’ll hear in just a minute.
