New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: DC Comics – January 22 2025

January 17, 2025 by krisis

Green Arrow (2023) #20, a DC Comics January 22 new releaseNext week is the 4th new comic book day of 2025! This post covers DC Comics January 22 2025 new releases. Missed this week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering DC Comics January 15 2025 new releases.

This week in DC Comics: Grell’s Finest Green Arrow, Round 4 of Absolute Diana vs. Death Kaiju, Batman’s eternal youth, Flash family fun, Harley Quinn’s destructive agency, Ewing yucks it up on Metamorpho, Unlimited Justice League members, Doomsday for Superwoman, and more!

The Krisis Pick of the Week: Once again, DC is presenting me with a nearly impossible choice! Catwoman, Detective, Harley Quinn, Justice League, and Superman have all been superlative comics in the past few months. However, I think the cliffhanger in the last issue of makes me most eager to read Green Arrow (2023) #20!

This post includes every comic out from DC Comics January 22 2025, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats.

This isn’t the typical comic releases post you can find on other sites. Why? I explain each collection and review every in-continuity series with a new issue out this week. Plus, for most new releases, I’ll point you to a personally-curated guide within the Crushing Comics Guide to DC Comics to find out how to collect that title in full!

There’s no other website on the internet that can claim that.

And now, onto DC Comics January 22 2025 new releases!

DC Comics January 22 2025 Collected Editions

DC Finest: Green Arrow – The Longbow Hunters TP
(2025 paperback, ISBN 978-1779529916)
See Guide to Green Arrow. Ollie enters the DC Finest line with what is truly his finest story, Mike Grell’s “The Longbow Hunters” mini-series and then the start of Grell’s length run on Arrow’s ongoing series. This is one of my favorite DC comics runs of all time and I think the writing, the pacing, and the artwork absolutely hold up in the modern day.

Highly recommended if you want to see where the myth of the modern version of Green Arrow began! [Read more…] about New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: DC Comics – January 22 2025

Storm (2024) #4, a Marvel Comics January 15 2025 new release

Next week is the 3rd new comic book day of 2025! This post covers Marvel Comics January 15 2025 new releases. Missed this week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering Marvel Comics January 8 2025 new releases.

This week in Marvel Comics: Blade Epics hit the 90s, the Road to Onslaught re-collected, Aliens in Paradise, the Deadly Phil Coulson, an Asgardian jam, Rogue in the Savage Land, Storm vs. Doom, Ultimate Wolverine debuts, and more!

The Krisis Pick of the Week: Storm (2024) #4! With more issues, I think this series could have easily been my favorite comic of 2024. Murewa Ayodele is walking a tightrope of plot that could result in a major fall, but it feels like his balance just gets better with every issue. Having Lucas Werneck along for art helps! See below for more thoughts on this excellent solo run.

This post includes every comic out from Marvel Comics January 15 2025, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats.

This isn’t the typical comic releases post you can find on other sites. Why? I explain each collection and review every series with a new issue out this week. And now, onto Marvel Comics January 15 2025 new releases!

Marvel Comics January 15 2025 Collected Editions

Blade Epic Collection Vol. 2: Nightstalkers
(2025 paperback, ISBN 978-1302956547 / digital)
See Guide to Blade. The Blade Epic Collection line starts with a bang by picking him up in the 90s, recollecting Tomb of Dracula (1991) #1-4 and pressing onward to Nightstalkers (1992) #1-6. Issues #2-5 are collected here in color for the first time!

That also hints that a first Epic Collection will wind up being a slimmed down version of the Blade: The Early Years omnibus that ends on Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #64, which makes sense since it collects a heck of a lot of Tomb of Dracula (1972).

Marvel Masterworks: Ka-Zar Vol. 4
(2025 hardcover, ISBN 978-1302955601 / digital)
Damnit, I really need a Ka-Zar guide! Marvel presses on with an unexpected fourth volume of this Masterworks line that collects Ka-Zar (1974) #10-20, [Uncanny] X-Men (1963) #115-116; and material from Rampaging Hulk (1977) #9 and Marvel Fanfare (1982) #56-59.

I was truly puzzled that this is leap-frogging Ka-Zar’s entire 1981 series to pick up the later Shanna The She-Devil story from the end of Marvel Fanfare until I realized that story is told in flashback and fits here – not only in continuity, but in when Steve Gerber originally wrote the script!

That makes this an incredibly rare Masterwork that skips ahead for later material, alongside Ms. Marvel Vol. 2 (which picks up Chris Claremont’s unfinished Ms. Marvel (1977) issues that were burned off as anthology stories over a decade later). New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: Marvel Comics – January 8 2025

January 2, 2025 by krisis

Next week is the 2nd new comic book day of 2025! This post covers Marvel Comics January 8 2025 new releases. Missed this week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering Marvel Comics January 1 2025 new releases.

This week in Marvel Comics: Sam Wilson’s saga, Epic Guardians, a Venomous mystery, Elektra unleashes hell, X-Men are Magik again, New Champions, Ultimate Panther vs. Moon Knight, The End of Marvel, and more!

The Krisis Pick of the Week: Magik (2025) #1! Magik scores her first ongoing series and it’s by a relatively new comic writer, Ashley Allen. Can Allen make magic with Magik and turn her into the newest X-Men solo star? I can’t wait to find out!

This post includes every comic out from Marvel this week, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats. This isn’t the typical comic releases post you can find on other sites. Why? I explain each collection and review every series with a new issue out this week. Plus, for every new release, I’ll point you to a personally-curated guide within the Crushing Comics Guide to Marvel Comics to find out how to collect that title in full! And now, onto Marvel Comics January 8 2025 new releases!

Marvel Comics January 8 2025 Collected EditionsCaptain America: The Saga of Sam Wilson, a Marvel Comics January 8 2025 new release

Captain America: The Saga of Sam Wilson
(2025 paperback, ISBN 978-1302956639 / digital)
See Guide to Sam Wilson – Falcon & Captain America. This isn’t a “best of” collection like some Saga trades, and isn’t even all material of Sam Wilson as Cap. But, it’s all pretty good!

This collects Sam’s debut as Cap, his initial 2015 single-arc series by Rick Remender from before Secret Wars, his 2016 return to being Falcon in Marvel Legacy (which I think got slept on), and the one-shot showing off his seemingly permanent return to being Cap alongside Steve as Cap from 2023.

Why collect that disparate group of material separated by two years of comics? It skips over a lot of other material of Sam as Cap, including his entire 2016 series from Nick Spencer. However, that’s all collected in Complete Collections, so it makes sense to collect around it with this book. The one thing that’s critically missing is All-New Captain America: Fear Him (2014), a digital series that was actually his first run with the stars and stripes.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Modern Era Epic Collection Vol. 2: War of Kings
(2025 paperback, ISBN 978-1302959968 / digital)
See Guide to Guardians of the Galaxy. While some Modern Era Epics are just reskinned Complete Collections, this one actually improves on the existing Guardians of the Galaxy by Abnett & Lanning: Complete Collection, Vol. 2 by collecting the back half of their series and adding in Thanos Imperative: Ignition (2010) #1, and Thanos Imperative (2010) #1-6. That’s really the climax of Abnett & Lanning’s original Guardians run, so it makes sense to include it here.

I’d really recommend starting with Volume 1, because the circumstances that form this team continue to play out through the remainder of the run.

I do think it’s odd that this isn’t also solicited to include Thanos Imperative: Devastation (2010) #1, unless it pops up in the indicia when the digital version releases next week. I suppose they could be saving it for a follow-up, since the conclusion of Thanos Imperative has a strong link to how Bendis’s run begins.

That means the speculated Volume 3 would likely be Devastation #1, Annihilators (2010) #1-4, Annihilators: Earthfall (2011) #1-4, and inito Bendis’s Guardians of the Galaxy #0.1 & 1-10. That would leave a solid Vol. 4 to take us through Secret Wars. [Read more…] about New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: Marvel Comics – January 8 2025

New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: Marvel Comics – June 5 2024

May 31, 2024 by krisis

It’s the 23nd new comic book day of the new year! This post covers Marvel Comics June 5 2024 releases. Missed last week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering Marvel Comics May 29 2024 new releases.

This week in Marvel Comics: The Ultimates debut, Alpha Flight divided, Ms. Marvel’s Inhumans reunion, Lando’s verdict, a second Spencer Spidey omni, the Age of Krakoa finale, and more!

This list includes every comic and digital comic out from Marvel this week, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats. I recap and review every new single issue. Plus, for every new release, I’ll point you to the right guide within my Crushing Comics Guide to Marvel Comics to find out how to collect each character in full – and, if a guide is linked from this post, that means it is updated through the present day!

Marvel Comics June 5 2024 Collected EditionsAlpha Flight (2023) Vol. 1: Divided We Stand, a Marvel Comics June 5 2024 new release

Alpha Flight: Divided We Stand
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302952457 / digital)
See Guide to Alpha Flight. I really, really loved this Ed Brisson & Scott Godlweski Alpha Flight mini-series that was a part of the Fall of X fallout from the 2023 Hellfire Gala.

I have a lot of affection for the core Alpha Flight characters and Ed Brisson voiced all of them particularly well as he explored how they might be stuck on separate sides of the mutant conflict. I think this reads just fine as a standalone outside of a full-on Krakoa read, since most of these characters are non-mutants and not a big part of the past five years of X-Men.

The Amazing Spider-Man By Nick Spencer Omnibus Vol. 2
(2024 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302953645 / digital)
See Guide to Spider-Man – Peter Parker (2018 – Present). This collects the final half of Nick Spencer’s run on Amazing Spider-Man (2018). I deeply disliked this comic – it felt like a Spider-Man with no jokes and no heart. I think if you are an Osborn Family superfan this would appeal to you, as it deals with a lot of the intricacies of the relationship between Norman and Harry. Otherwise, I wouldn’t recommend it.

In a curious turn of events, the next omnibus is already available – Amazing Spider-Man: Beyond Omnibus (2023 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302949624 / digital), which contains the entire final portion of this run that reintroduces Ben Reilly.

Black Panther by Eve L. Ewing Vol. 2: Reign at Dusk
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302948849 / digital)
See Guide to Black Panther. I was soft on this series from Dr. Ewing to start, but after the first three issues I really warmed to it and I was bummed to see it end abruptly at issue #10.

I think Ewing did something intriguing and much-needed here by defining more of the urban environment of Wakanda outside of the capital city and exploring T’Challa’s relationship to it outside of being king. Plus, she brought in strong new supporting players and villains. If you can get into a more slow, cerebral take on Black Panther that does not have the political bent of Coates’s run, this could be for you.
